WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL JOSE “BUGA” ABREU COLISEUM ISABELLA, PUERTO RICO SEPTEMBER 9, 1977 7 PM REFEREE: EL VIKINGO All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance. --Puerto Rican national anthem Match 1- CICLON SUDAMERICANO defeats BULL GREGORY with a top rope bulldog. Time: 9:29 Match 2- ROCK RIDDLE defeats GEORGE GAISER with a figure four after Gaiser hurts his ankle on a back drop. Time: 11:20 Match 3- MIGHTY IGOR defeats ALI BABA. Igor comes out with his trademark, child-like smile. He slaps the hands of the fans at ringside. Igor uses his strength advantage against the sparkplug Baba. The acknowledgement Igor gives the fans allows Baba some chances to get in his offense. Eventually, Igor traps Baba in a devastating bear hug for the win. Time: 12:25 Match 4- THE INFERNOS w/ J.C. DYKES defeat EARL MAYNARD/ VICTOR JOVICA This match is back and forth, with both sides holding sustained advantages. Jovica and Maynard work on the right shoulder of Inferno I. The Infernos are able to double team Jovica, weakening his back. The faces look to have the match won when Maynard lifts Inferno I in a standing hammerlock. Dykes runs to the other side of the ring and gets Jovica to drop to floor and pay attention to him. Inferno II takes Dykes’ canteen and hits Maynard in the back of the head. Vikingo, who is distracted by Jovica and Dykes, does not see the interference. He turns and sees Inferno I covering Maynard. He makes the three count. Time: 19:25 Match 5- TOSH TOGO defeats ANTONIO INOKI. Togo and Inoki abandon any scientific strategy in this match. They batter each other all over the coliseum. Vikingo goes to the floor and uses a lot of discretion in trying to get the wrestlers back in the ring. Late in the match, Inoki throws Togo to the floor. Togo hits the surface hard. As he struggles to his feet, Inoki sets up on the edge of the ring apron for a double axe handle. As he leaps, it becomes obvious that Togo was playing possum. Togo moves and Inoki comes down on the ring railing, hurting his mid section. Togo hits a karate thrust to the throat and rolls Inoki into the ring. He clamps on the abdominal claw and Inoki, despite several rallies, is forced to submit. Time: 22:00. . . INTERMISSION . . Match 6- PUERTO RICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH HERCULES AYALA defeats GIL HAYES/ w ROCK RIDDLE. Rock Riddle accompanies Gil Hayes to the ring and shows the ring announcer a one-night manager’s license. Ayala lets all that opening of the match distraction go. He settles on the back of Hayes, with a bow-and-arrow giving Hayes a lot of grief. Along the way, Riddle gets Hayes some advantages by making references to Ayala’s family situations. Hayes takes Ayala down and works on his knee. This match is dead even until Hayes manages to put the Indian Death Lock on Ayala. Rock Riddle gets El Vikingo’s attention. Ayala, using his fists, manages to get Hayes to release the Indian Death Lock. While Riddle and Vikingo are occupied, Hayes goes into his boot for what looks like brass knux. Ayala is able to roll Hayes into a cradle for a quick pin. Time: 27:27 Match 7- DEAN HO/ DOMINIC DENUCCI/ VICTOR RIVERA wrestle KING CURTIS/ HIGH CHIEF AFI/ EL DIABLO MASCARAS w/ MARK MANSON to a double count out. It is the Manson Mafia that first brings out the plastic utensils that are the weapons of choice in this match. Using his experience to hide the fork from Vikingo, Curtis opens up DeNucci early. He also uses his taped fists to help out. Ho and Rivera are arguing with Vikingo about what might be under the tape. DeNucci makes the tag to Ho, who runs the shoulder of Curtis into the post. While Ho is wrenching on the arm, Rivera gets Vikingo’s attention. DeNucci gets the fork out of Curtis’s boot and returns the favor, turning the tag champ’s face a crimson mask. A questionable low blow from Curtis on Rivera allows Curtis to tag in Afi. Afi uses the high impact moves to soften up Rivera’s back. He hits a running powerslam and goes in for the cover. Rivera gets his foot on the ropes just in time. Diablo Mascaras tags in and almost takes the head of Rivera off with a running dropkick. Rivera hits the floor and all heck breaks loose. Vikingo has trouble trying to keep two members from each team outside the ring. Both teams use the fork and, soon, all six men are bleeding. Rivera and Ho are getting the best of Afi and Curtis, while Diablo Mascaras has DeNucci in a camel clutch. All this is happening on the floor. Vikingo tolls ten and calls for the bell, counting out both teams. Manson is able to get in a chair shot on DeNucci before the heels beat a hasty retreat. Time: 30:57
