Airs-9/15/77 Gordon Solie opens the show with Kevin Sullivan.
Solie, “Hello everyone and welcome to ‘Championship Wrestling from Florida’. We have a great show for you today with tremendous action. We will hear from this young man in a moment. The big news is this. We will hear from the mysterious masked ‘Mr. Official I’ later in the program. The Great Bolo and the Assassin are sure that this man is Dusty Rhodes. I will admit that this man and Dusty Rhodes have similar body types and mannerisms; however I, for one, cannot state for certain that this man is Dusty Rhodes. Now let’s talk to this man. He is returning to Florida, he is Kevin Sullivan. Kevin, you meet Nelson Royal later in today’s program. Welcome back to Florida.”
Sullivan, “Thank you Mr. Solie. I’ve been wrestling on the West Coast and I have done pretty well, if I do say so myself. The best competition in the NWA is here in Florida and Nelson Royal is very good.”
Solie, “Mr. Royal has changed his attitude and the Great Bolo has a lot to do with that. I know that Sullivan vs. Royal will be a great match. Now let’s go to the ring.”
Match #1
Jimmy Garvin w/Sir Oliver Humperdink def. Juan Sebastian (4:57) w/suplex Solie is with Humperdink, Garvin and the Spoiler.
Solie, “Mr. Humperdink, Mr. Garvin was very impressive.”
Humperdink, “Of course he was. This is the best young wrestler in the business and this man, the Spoiler, is the next Southern Champion.”
Solie, “That may be. The Spoiler will meet the Southern Champion, Austin Idol, on September 18, at the Hersterly Armory in Tampa.”
Humperdink, “Idol, bring that bleached blond head to the Armory and this man will slap the claw on you. You will scream and you will suffer and the Spoiler will be the Southern Champion!”
Solie, “That remains to bee seen. Austin Idol worked very hard to gain the Southern Title and he will not surrender it easily. Next we will see the TV Champion in action. Now let’s look at these two videos.”
We see a video of Jack Brisco.
Brisco, “I meet Wahoo McDaniel on September 21 in Jacksonville. Wahoo and I are old friends, but he has the NWA World Title and I want it. Wahoo, I’m coming for you. I know you respect the rules and so do I, but I also know that you will do what it takes to remain the Champion and I’ll do what it takes to win it. It will be an exciting night, but I expect to leave the Jacksonville Coliseum with the NWA World Title in my possession.”
We then see a tape from McDaniel. McDaniel, “I’ve held this belt for a short time and every night, I meet a great wrestler. On September 21, I meet one of the best. Jack Brisco has been World Champion. He knows what it takes to win it and he knows what it takes to hold it. This will be my toughest challenge, but I’m ready. Jack, we’ve been friends, but all that goes out the window in Jacksonville. You bring your best and I’ll bring my best and may the best man win.”
Solie, “September 21, at the Jacksonville Coliseum, Jack Brisco challenges Wahoo McDaniel for the World Title. This is one you do not want to miss.”
Match #2
Florida TV Championship
Bob Armstrong (Champion) def. Beauregard (5:19) w/rollup Solie is with Bob Armstrong.
Solie, “Mr. Armstrong, let’s get right to the point. Your TV Title win was quite controversial.”
Armstrong, “That may be Gordon, but you can’t argue that I beat the Assassin.”
Solie, “You did beat him by count out and this ’Mr. Official I’ awarded you the title. Do you know who this man is? Is he Dusty Rhodes?”
Armstrong, “I don’t know. He could be Dusty Rhodes, he could be Haystacks Calhoun or he could be Billy Carter, I can’t tell you and I don’t care. He can handle himself in the ring and that’s all that counts!”
Solie, “This situation bears watching.”
Match #3
Buddy Wolff def. Chin Lee (3:12) w/reverse neckbreaker Solie is with Nelson Royal and the Great Bolo.
Solie, “Mr. Royal, you meet Kevin Sullivan later in the program. He’s seems ready for action.”
Royal, “Kevin Sullivan? That punk kid, you must be kidding me. I am Nelson Royal, the greatest Jr. heavyweight in the world. With my manager, the Great Bolo, I am unstoppable. I’ll dispose of this punk and then when Jerry Brisco shows his yellow hide in Florida again, I’ll take back my belt.”
Bolo, “You heard the greatest jr. heavyweight, he’ll take that fireplug from Boston and he’ll tie him in knots. Sullivan, you should have stayed out west, you are not man enough for Florida!”
Match #4
Ric Drasin and Steve Strong def. Buck Forrester and Dennis Hall (6:45) Strong w/bearhug vs. Forrester Solie is with Eddie Graham.
Solie, “I’m here with Eddie Graham. Eddie, you have talked about this before. You have one foot in the management end of the wrestling game, but one foot still in the ring.”
Graham, “Yes I do, Gordon. I enjoy the business end, but I still like putting on the trunks and boots and wrestling.”
Solie, “With that said, you will be in our feature match next week. You meet the Spoiler. He is the number one contender for the Southern Title. In fact, he meets Austin Idol at the Armory in Tampa. You know he will be out for blood.”
Graham, “The Spoiler is one of the best, but this old boy from West Virginia still has something left. I’m not the businessman in the ring. I’m a wrestler and I plan on giving the Spoiler the test of a lifetime.”
Solie, “This will be a treat for the fans. Eddie Graham against the Spoiler. This could be one for the ages.
Match #5
Kevin Sullivan vs. Nelson Royal w/Great Bolo (10:00) Time Limit Draw Solie is seated at the desk. Mr. Official I, dressed in a referee’s shirt and wearing a mask comes out. The studio audience goes crazy. The man sits down at the desk and shakes hands with Gordon.
Solie, “’Mr. Official I’, welcome to the program.”
The man nods his head.
Solie, “You have arrived with a lot of controversy. You have called the matches down the middle, but your decision in the TV Title match between the Assassin and Bob Armstrong was quite controversial.”
The masked man leans into the microphone, but turns to look at Gordon and nods his head yes.
Solie, “Sir, it would help if you would speak to us. I’ll try the big question. Are you Dusty Rhodes?”
Again the masked man leans into the mic, but does not speak. He turns to Gordon and shakes his head no.
Solie, “Well it does not appear that we are going to get in-depth answers from this man. Sir, do you have anything to say?”
The masked man shakes his head no.
Solie, “This situation will continue to unfold. Remember, next week, Eddie Graham meets the Spoiler, and I’m sure the Assassin and the Great Bolo will have something to say about this Mr. Official I, until then, so long from the Sunshine State.”
