WWC SAN JUAN ARENA SHOW 9/11/77
Sep 11th, 2007, 8:58pm

WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL
ROBERTO CLEMENTE COLISEUM
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
SEPTEMBER 11, 1977 7 PM
REFEREE: EL ATLETICO

All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance.

--Puerto Rican national anthem

Match 1-

BOB GRIFFIN defeats ERICH FROELICH with a butterfly suplex.

Time: 10:38

Match 2-

MR. JUSTICE defeats ZOLTAN THE GREAT with a sleeper after a hot shot maneuver.

Time: 11:35

Match 3-

BOB LUECK defeats PEDRO EL GRANDE.

Lueck comes to the ring carrying a Winnipeg Blue Bombers helmet, a memento of his Canadian Football League days as an offensive lineman. He and El Grande shake hands before the match. As the match progresses, Lueck is very aggressive and pushes the rules to the limit.

The finish of the match comes when Lueck takes a swing at El Grande with the helmet. El Grande ducks and Lueck quickly gets him in position for pile driver. He executes the move for the win.

Time: 14:39

Match 4-

SUPER MEDICO defeats PEPPER GOMEZ

Gomez is still hurting from the TV beat down given to him and Antonio Inoki by Medico and Tosh Togo. He comes to the match with a bandage on his head. It does take long for that bandage to be ripped off and Medico goes to work.

A surfboard takes its toll after a series of rights and lefts re-opens the cut on Gomez’s forehead. Medico throws Gomez to the coliseum floor. He tries to drop a knee into Gomez’s abdomen. Medico has forgotten about Pepper’s legendary stomach strength. The fan’s excitement fuels a Gomez comeback.

The turning point in the match comes when Atletico gets caught in a corner smash. Tosh Togo comes to ringside and throws salt into Gomez’s eyes. Medico throws his opponent into a ring post, shoulder first. He rolls Gomez back into the ring and applies a cobra clutch. Despite a valiant effort, Gomez has to submit.

Time: 20:10

Match 5-

KING TONGA/ HURACAN CASTILLO defeat THE INVADERS by DQ.

These teams pull out all the stops in this bout. Atelico gets in the face of Invader I early to establish order. The match calms down with both teams settling in and taking out the legs of the other side, Invader III and Castillo being the targets.

The anger of these teams eventually spills out to the coliseum floor. Tonga has Invader III in a bad way with a bear hug. He rams the back of the masked man into the ring apron. A tag to Castillo and Huracan goes to the top rope for a missile drop kick. He goes in for the cover. Invader I comes in to break up the cover. Atelico sees that a chain is wrapped around the fist of Invader I and calls for the disqualification.

Invader I hits Tonga and throws him out of the ring. He clobbers Castillo and pulls him up for a heart punch. Castillo goes down fast. The ring doctor rushes into the ring as The Invaders leave the ring area.

Match 6-

WWC NORTH AMERICAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
THE SAMOAN KINGS (KING CURTIS, HIGH CHIEF AFI) w/ MARK MANSON defeat DEAN HO/ VICTOR RIVERA.

Both of these teams have sustained advantages throughout this match. Rivera and Ho take out the right knee of Afi to attempt ground him. Rivera drops to the floor and slams the right knee against the ring apron and wraps it around a ring pole. Mark Manson takes an object from his warm pants and gives it to Curtis. Curtis puts it in his elbow pad. On a criss cross by Ho, he strikes the Hawaiian in the back of the head. A cut is opened in the back of Ho’s head.

Eventually, Ho makes the tag to Rivera. Victor cleans house until Manson pulls at his leg causing him to fall to the floor. Rivera hurts his ankle as he hits the floor. The Samoan Kings smell blood and go after Rivera’s ankle. Afi has recovered and goes to the top rope and does his flying splash onto the ankle. Curtis tags in and applies a half-Boston crab for the win, while Manson occupies the bloody Ho in the corner.

Time: 29:28

Match 7-

PUERTO RICAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
EL DIABLO MASCARAS w/ MARK MANSON defeats HERCULES AYALA by DQ

Dominic DeNucci comes to ringside to assist Ayala with the troublesome Manson. Manson tries to slip a piece of something to Mascaras. DeNucci clobbers Manson for his trouble. Both wrestlers exchange haymakers and get the attention of Atletico. Mascaras slips a metal object into his mask and hits a flying head butt. A bloody Ayala hits the coliseum floor.

Diablo Mascaras executes a swinging neck breaker on the floor and rolls the champ back into the ring. Mascaras clamps on a rear chin lock. After punishing Ayala, Mascaras tries to sling Ayala into the far turnbuckle. Ayala reverses and follows up with a series of teeth-shattering shoulder blocks.

Manson gets Ayala’s attention late in the match. Before DeNucci can pull him down, Manson flips Mascaras a set of handcuffs. Ayala is hit by them and is staggered. He drops to his knees but gets his licks in by hitting a European forearm to the lower Dominican. Ayala uses the handcuffs to tie Diablo Mascaras to the turnbuckle rope. He pummels the masked man until Atletico calls for the bell. Ayala reluctantly grabs his belt and leaves the ring.

The Samoan Kings v/s Rivera and Ho was a thrilling match from beginning to end.

I also enjoyed that tag team match, it was my favourite match of the night.  I like the team of King Curtis and Siva Afi, and you've got them working well together.  If Patera and Ventura make the trip to PR, Curtis and Siva could give them a run for their money!

Agent Sands: No. I'll shoot the cook. My car's parked out back anyway.
