Midwest Dream

Promoter's note: I'm hoping to be caught up by next weekend. Not sure how I'll do it, but will try. Sometime reality interupts... Championship Wrestling from Memphis TV Broadcast and recorded 8/25/77 Lance Russell and Dave Brown start off the telecast with footage from the MSC of Jerry Lawler and Ron Garvin coming to blows and having to be separated after the Main Event. Lance will be speaking to head matchmaker William Kyle about this situation and how it will affect the Southern Heavyweight Championship match at the Liberty Bowl. In the opening contest, Black Angus Campbell defeats Ken Dillenger with a big gut wrench suplex. Campbell is vicious on the attack thanks to Lord Raven. After the match, Lord Raven states that he will have the third man for his team in the Liberty Bowl in studio next week. In the second match, Ricky Fields and Tommy Rich defeat the duo of Butch Malone and Big Bill Howard. Both Rich and Fields tell Lance they are ready to reclaim their tag team titles in the Liberty Bowl. William Kyle comes out for the next segment and he is accompanied by Jerry Jarrett. Both men say that the fighting between Jerry Lawler and Ron Garvin does nothing but serve Ron Bass’s goal of keeping the Southern Heavyweight Title around his waist. Lawler comes out and tells both Kyle and Jarrett that if they let him take out Bass, the title will be where it belongs. This statement draws out Ronnie Garvin and he tells Lawler that if he had kept his nose out of Garvin’s business, there wouldn’t be an issue with Ron Bass. Lawler blows off Garvin and the two men brawl across the studios, finally ending up in the ring where Jerry Jarrett grabs the mic and tells both men that they will settle things Monday night in the Mid-South Coliseum inside a cage since they can’t act like civilized men. The winner of the match will face Ron Bass for the title. Sugar Bear Harris defeats Don Ross with a massive splash in the corner. Ross is clutching his ribs after the brutal splash. The BBC comes out and Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco dispatch the Medics with relative ease. After the match, the Brits tell Lance Russell that they will do the same thing to the World Tag team Champions. Speaking of World Champion, AWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Roddy Piper comes out at the end of the BBC diatribe and has both Breaks and Rocco tell him that after they are tag team champions, they will be taking his title. Piper tells the men that there’s no time to waste and he’ll take one on tonight and the other British bozo on in the Mid-South Monday night. Bill Dundee and Bill Ash put on another clinic in their ongoing feud, with Dundee getting the pin after connecting with the Bomb’s Away. These two men will finally settle things between them Monday night in the MSC. In the TV Main Event, Dutch Mantell, Bobby Jaggers, and Tito Montez defeat the Spider and the Southern Tag team champions Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson after Mantell s able to pull off the Spider’s mask sending him scrambling to the back and being counted out. As the show nears a close, Mantell challenges the Spider to a mask verses 20 lashes match in the Liberty Bowl Labor Day. AWA-CWA 8/25/77 from Tupelo, MS 1) Mighty Ursa defeats Big Bill Howard 2) George Welles and “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones defeat the Medics 3) Bill Ash defeats Ken Dillenger 4) Kelly Kiniski defeats Black Angus Campbell by disqualification 5) Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson defeat Bobby Jaggers and Tito Montez after the Miser head butts Jaggers with a loaded mask. AWA-CWA 8/27/77 from the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis 1) Mighty Ursa defeats Big Bill Howard with a bear hug. 2) George Welles and “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones defeat the Spoilers after Welles drilled Spoiler #2 with a big running football tackle. 3) Sugar Bear Harris again defeats Don Ross, this time in less that 30 seconds as Ross has not yet recovered from a rib injury that he sustained on TV Saturday. After the contest, Tojo Yamamoto calls for a real challenge and from the back comes the Scottish Giant. Harris and the Giant brawl to a double count out with neither man able to slam the other. 4) Dutch Mantell defeats Ken Dillenger by disqualification when the Spider and the Miser come out and attack the man from Oil Trough, TX, tying him to the ropes and whipping him until he bleeds. 5) Jackie Fargo, seconded by Tommy Gilbert, defeats Black Angus Campbell with his patented Atomic knee drop. 6) “Superstar” Bill Dundee defeats “Professor” Bill Ash with the Bomb’s Away to become the new top contender for the AWA Junior Heavyweight title. 7) Ricky Fields and Tommy Rich defeat Phil Hickerson and Dennis Condrey in a non-title preview match. Rich gets the submission on Phil with a spinning toehold. 8) AWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Roddy Piper defeats Marc Rocco with a sleeper hold. After the match, the entire BBC attacks Piper until Bill Dundee, Jackie Fargo, Tommy Gilbert, and Kelly Kiniski come streaming from the back and send the Brits packing. 9) In the steel cage main event, Ron Bass sits at ringside to see Ron Garvin defeat Jerry “the King” Lawler with a sunset flip to become the challenger for Bass’s Southern Heavyweight Title. Both Garvin and Lawler were bleeding buckets by the end of the contest. Championship Wrestling from Memphis Recorded 9/1/77 in Memphis and distributed via syndication. Lance Russell and Dave Brown recap the action at the MSC and immediately bring out Roddy Piper, the AWA Junior Heavyweight Champion. Piper tells the audience that he knows what the North American titles mean as he’s been wrestling all across the country, especially in California. So today, he wants the BBC in the ring for their belts and will find a partner. The opening match of the day is the newest member of the BBC, Lord Alfred Hays, defeating Ken Dillenger and Big Bill Howard with a variety of Judo and martial arts moves. After the match, Lord John Raven states that he will turn lose his BBC on the CWA, the AWA, and the entire world this weekend, starting with Roddy Piper in the TV main event. After the break, footage of Ron Garvin defeating Jerry Lawler in the MSC is shown and Lance interviews Jerry Lawler. Lawler says he has nothing to be ashamed of and that he has made some calls on his own and has a special surprise opponent for the Liberty Bowl who will be bringing some gold of his own to defend. In a special surprise, AWA Tag Team champions Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher show up and dismantle the Medics. Dick and the Crusher then tell Lance that they will walk into Memphis the tag team champs and out the same way. Pat Roach defeats “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones with a big knee drop off the top rope. Roach looks to be in top shape for his World Title match with Nick Bockwinkel in the Liberty Bowl. In the main event, the NACW North American Tag Team Champions Marc Rocco and Jim Breaks defeat Roddy Piper and “Superstar” Bill Dundee when Piper walks away from the ring, telling Dundee that “ no vanilla midget will be the man that takes a title away from Hot Rod!” Rocco finishes the match off with a diving head butt.
