Championship Wrestling from Amarillo TV 9/15/77 Taped the morning of 9/15/77 Your host and ring announcer: Steve Stack Timekeeper at the bell is Joe Collins Ring Examiner is Dr. W. Russell All matches under supervision of the State of Texas Athletic Board. This edition of Championship Wrestling is a “Best Of” show since we are just two-days removed from the big show at the Sports Arena. We don’t have footage available from that show yet, but Steve does note that Wahoo McDaniel did successfully defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against “Handsome” Harley Race. Andre The Giant and Dick Murdoch were successful in defeating the Giant Baba and the Great Kabuki, possibly running the “foreign menace” out of Amarillo. And most shockingly, Gino Hernandez did manage to leave the Sports Arena with both the Western States Heavyweight Championship and ½ of the Western States Tag Team Championships still in his possession. We’ll have much more next week, plus we’ll Steve will be joined by a very special guest commentator for the program. This week’s program is a profile on Gino Hernandez and the dramatic personality change he’s undergone over the last six months. We see clipped matches of his early days in Amarillo and also matches where he teamed with Jose Lothario. The whole saga of Jose’s injury and Bobby Davis tempting Gino is completely recapped. The match where Gino Hernandez turned on his mentor Jose Lothario is shown in full as his recent Western States Heavyweight Title win over Dick Murdoch. We also see some brief highlights of last week’s “Gino Hernandez Appreciation Night” and the emergence of Robert Fuller as Gino’s new business investor and partner-in-crime, which didn’t seem to make Bobby Davis too happy. Steve Stack: “Welp, folks, we are outta time, make sure you catch us on our new day NEXT SUNDAY here on Championship Rasslin'!”
