WWC PONCE, PR ARENA SHOW 9/16/77
Sep 16th, 2007, 6:30pm

WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL
JUAN PACHIN VINCENCES AUDITORIUM
PONCE, PUERTO RICO
SEPTEMBER 16, 1977 7 PM
REFEREE: RICKY BENITEZ

All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance.

--Puerto Rican national anthem

Match 1-

ROBERTO SOTO/ EL RAYO defeat ALI BABA/ BULL GREGORY.

In their WWC debut, Soto and Rayo win the crowd over with their teamwork and high flying moves. Soto scores the pin on Baba with a flying elbow from the top rope after a Samoan drop from El Rayo.

Time: 15:26

Match 2-

MR. JUSTICE defeats CICLON SUDAMERICANO.

The crowd also shows their appreciation for both men in this contest. Sudamericano uses a flying head scissors several times and almost gets the upset pin on Justice. Ciclon hits a missile dropkick and follows up with a pin attempt. Justice barely gets his foot on the ropes in time.

Justice locks on a sleeper to put Sudamericano out with less than a minute left in the bout. After waking Ciclon up, Justice slaps hands with his opponent in a show of sportsmanship. He raises the arm of Ciclon and the crowd responds.

Time: 19:28

Match 3-

THE INFERNOS w/ J.C. DYKES defeat EARL MAYNARD/ DORY DIXON.

Maynard starts the match without a partner. Dykes brings his charges to the ring, and is arguing with Benitez as Maynard explains the situation. The Mighty Igor returned to a territory where he felt more comfortable. Maynard get on the phone and made some negotiations with a former partner to come help him out. Dory Dixon slides under the ring ropes and the bell rings, with the faces clearing the ring.

Dixon and Maynard spend a good portion of the first ten minutes of the match working on the shoulder of Inferno II. Dykes pulls at the legs of Dixon. It distracts the Caribbean star and Inferno I gets in a clothesline to the back of the head. I and II take the left leg of Dixon out.

Benitez is confused about the legal men, Inferno II and Dory Dixon, late in the match. Maynard has Inferno II in a standing hammerlock on the floor. Benitez tries to break the hold and get the wrestlers back into the ring. He does not see Inferno I tap his boot and give Dixon a kick to the gut. With Benitez thinking he has corrected a mistake, Dixon is counted down for the count of three.

Time: 20:27

Match 4-

PEPPER GOMEZ defeats SUPER MEDICO by DQ.

This match is back and forth, with both men gaining several prolonged advantages. Gomez works on the chest and pectoral muscles of the masked Medico. Medico jumps on what was an awkward fall by Gomez through the ring ropes and to the arena floor and turns it into a break for him. Gomez hits his chin on the ring apron. Medico works on the shoulders.

Despite Gomez trying to fend off Medico’s offense, the heel clamps on a cobra clutch. Gomez makes it to the ropes but Medico will not break. Benitez calls for the disqualification, thinking Medico would break then. He does not. The crowd roars when Mr. Justice makes the save. Gomez recovers, but is puzzled when he sees it is Justice who helped him out.

Time: 18:26

Match 5-

HURACAN CASTILLO defeats INVADER I.

Benitez shows a lot of discretion in this match. Invader I and Castillo battle each other in what gives new meaning to the term “tooth and nail”. Invader pulls out a piece of metal and carves Castillo up. Castillo hits Invader I with a board when Benitez gets between a corner splash and a turnbuckle. He bites Invader I through his mask.

It is ironic that a simple small package gives Castillo the win. Invader I misses a flying reverse elbow and bounces off the ropes awkwardly. The move by Castillo angers the masked man. He sneaks up behind Castillo as Benitez raises his hand in victory. Invader I hits a belly-to-back suplex. He follows up with a heart punch, putting Castillo out again with it.

Time: 20:29

Match 6-

DEAN HO defeats GIL HAYES by COUNT OUT.

Ho is surprisingly calm as Hayes plays up to the ladies in the crowd. Ho concentrates on Hayes’s neck muscles, probably setting him up for the full nelson he likes to use as his finisher. Eye rakes and an eventual low blow swing the momentum back into Hayes’s court.

Hayes hangs Ho’s right leg over the middle rope and drops to the floor. He continues to work on Ho’s leg, with Ho several times kicking off Hayes as he goes in for the Indian Death Lock. Hayes decides to weaken Ho’s leg even further.

As Hayes thinks he has the match in hand, he throws Ho to the floor. He takes time to kiss a lady at ringside. She slaps Hayes. Ho looses his cool with the foolishness. He slams Hayes into two ring posts and the ring steps, rolling into the ring to stop the count. Ho locks on the full nelson and rolls back into the ring, just in time to beat the count. As he goes to the back, he smiles at the lady in question. She smiles back at Ho.

Time: 19:30

Match 7-

PUERTO RICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
HERCULES AYALA defeats KING CURTIS w/ MARK MANSON

Ayala works on Curtis’s back early on in this match. Manson plays his part, slipping Curtis a plastic knife. The tag champ knows just what to do with it. Ayala is soon bleeding hard. A karate thrust to the throat by Curtis is not seen by Benitez, who is busy arguing with Manson.

Ayala eventually regains the advantage and returns to working to on Curtis’s back. A power slam by Ayala looks to be the finisher but Manson places the foot of Curtis on the ropes. Ayala goes down to the floor after Manson. He chases the manager around the ring until Curtis hits him with a wicked clothesline.

The end comes when Curtis gives Ayala a bone-jarring body slam. He climbs to the top turnbuckle and pauses to catch his balance. That momentary stop gives Ayala a chance to move out of the way of a splash attempt by Curtis. Ayala hits a butterfly suplex and does a float over for the pin. Ayala slides out and grabs the Puerto Rican belt. He uses it to fend off Manson as he leaves the ring.
Time: 25:00.
