CWA Catchup #4 featuring the BBC against the Loves
Sep 19th, 2007, 2:28pm

AWA-CWA
9/5/77 from Louisville Gardens, Louisville, KY

1)      Steve Regal defeats Big Bill Howard with a modified abdominal stretch.
2)      The Medics defeat Mr. Ebony Tom Jones and George Welles after the masked men pull a switch behind the officials back and Medic #2 rolls up the inexperienced Welles.
3)      The Scottish Giant defeats the Mighty Ursa and Don Ross in a huge handicap match. Neither powerhouse could even get the Giant off his feet.
4)      Tommy Gilbert and the Fabulous Jackie Fargo defeat the NACW North American Tag Team Champions Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco by disqualification after Black Angus Campbell comes ringside and attacks Fargo while the BBC double teams Gilbert inside the ring. The fans rain down boos on the BBC, who’s manager Lord Raven tells the fans that the next time they come to this rat hole they will have the World Tag Team Titles.
5)      Kelly Kiniski defeats Butch Malone with a big Canadian backbreaker.
6)      Jerry “the King” Lawler defeats Ricky Fields with the help of a rather large muscle man, who decks Fields on the outside after jawing with Ricky while the dazed King recovered.
7)      AWA Southern Tag Team champions Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson defeat Tito Montez and Bobby Jaggers after Dennis Condrey hits his underhook pile driver on the smaller Montez.
8)      The new Southern Heavyweight Champion, Rugged Ronnie Garvin defeats Pat Roach in a big championship contest thanks to a nice sunset flip.

AWA-CWA
9/7/77 from Nashville, TN

1)      Steve Regal defeats Don Ross with an abdominal stretch.
2)      The Medics defeat Big Bill Howard and the Mighty Ursa after Medic #2 locks on the dreaded claw hold on Howard.
3)      Black Angus Campbell defeats Butch Malone after a big gut wrench suplex.
4)      The Southern Tag Team champions Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson defeat “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones and George Welles to retain their titles.
5)      Dutch Mantell defeats Professor Bill Ash by disqualification when a wild haired man, accompanied by the Miser, simply mauls the Dutchman. Ash confronts this savage and he gets mauled for his efforts too.
6)      “Superstar” Bill Dundee defeats Tito Montez with a crucifix in a very strong and highly technical match up between two top junior heavyweights.
7)      Jerry “the King” Lawler defeats Tommy Rich in a match that sees Lawler bend, if not break, as many rules as he can. Lawler snaps the strap, drops a fist off the second rope, and gets the pin.
8)      AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion Ronnie Garvin defeats Pat Roach with a figure four leg lock, taking out the European champion.
9)      Prior to the main event, the BBC duo of Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco come out and tell the fans that tonight is the night that they finish off the dinosaurs. Unfortunately for the BBC, there are NEW AWA tag team champions in the form of the Love Brothers who are escorted to the ring by the Fabulous Jackie Fargo. With Fargo at ringside to counteract Lord John Raven, the Love Brothers and the BBC throw out a huge match. The smaller Brits have the quickness advantage, but the new champions are nothing if opportunistic. Reginald is able to roll out of the way as Rocco flies for a diving headbutt. He tags in Hartford and together they drop the leg and Hartford gets the pin.

excellent work from top to bottom. CWA is definitely a must see promotion.

- Garvins was extremely impressive in disposing of the British Bomber
- Steve Regal makes such a great underdog face - he was so much better in this role than he was as the heel Mr. Electricity. It would be good to see him involved in some type of program Regal mixed in with Fields and Rich would be nice.
- Hickerson and Condrey are arguably the best tag-team in the AWA. They are a mile a head of the old men, and the hippies in every phase of the game.
- this wild haired youngster looks like he is going to be a major force in the CWA.
- nice work with Kelly Kiniski
