The opening plays, accompanied by Herb Alpert’s
A Bandita. We see short clips of some of the stars that have appeared on Maple Leaf Wrestling over the years, like Whipper Billy Watson, Gene Kiniski, Bruno Sammartino, Johnny Valentine, The Sheik, Jack Brisco and many more.
We then join Lord Athol Layton standing behind a podium with the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo on it, behind him, the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo and a big red and green Maple Leaf.
Layton runs down the matches that will take place on today's program, including the feature bout, World Tag Team Champions The Love Brothers, Reginald and Hartford, will square off with The Beast and Terry Yorkston in a Non-Title Match.
Layton is joined by
Dino Bravo on the set.
A CLIP is shown, from last Thursday night at Maple Leaf Gardens, where Bravo announced that Rufus R. Jones would not be able to take part in the tag team match, then announced his replacement...the 600+ lbs. Haystack Calhoun!
Another CLIP is shown, this time at the end of the match, where the Masked Canadian refused to tag in, leaving Greg Valentine alone to take the fall, forcing Valentine to leave Toronto!
Bravo says that the Canadian really showed his true colours on Thursday night, he didn’t want any part of him or Calhoun, that’s why he let Valentine take the fall. Bravo says that Rufus is going to be out of action for quite some time, but there’s another wrestler around here, a Toronto native, who’s not happy with the way the Masked Canadian has conducted himself…the reigning Canadian Champion The Crusader!
The Crusader walks in and joins Layton and Bravo on the set.
Crusader says that the Masked Canadian comes out and says that he represents Canada and all the Canadian people, but inside the ring, his actions are disgraceful, he gives all Canadians a bad name!
Bravo says that the Masked Canadian has upset a lot of people around here, but if he can find someone that wants to team with him, let’s see if he has the guts to face us in the ring on October 11!
MATCH #1 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Stan Stasiak defeats Gary McLaughlin after nailing McLaughlin with the Heart Punch, leading to the pinfall. ---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
MATCH #2 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Steve Bolus & Whipper Watson, Jr. fought Chris Tolos & The Wildman to a DRAW at 10:00. ---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
Layton is joined by
Haystack Calhoun on the set.
Layton says that he didn’t expect to see Calhoun at the Gardens on Thursday night.
Calhoun says that he always seems to find his way back to Toronto, he loves it here, and when Dino Bravo called him up and asked him to come in and take Rufus R. Jones’ spot in that match, he couldn’t refuse!
Layton asks what his plans are, now that he’s back in Toronto.
Calhoun says that he’s always up for competition, he’ll face anybody, it doesn’t matter to him.
Layton says that one of Calhoun’s long-time rivals here in Toronto, the Sheik, will be in action right after the break.
Calhoun says that he’ll stick around and watch the Sheik in action.
---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
As Eddie Creatchman and The Sheik make their way to the ring, Creatchman yells at Calhoun to get out of there, he’s going to be a distraction to the Sheik.
Calhoun says that he’s comfortable right where he is, and he’s not going anywhere!
This doesn’t sit well with Creatchman or the Sheik.
MATCH #3 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
The Sheik defeats Nick DeCarlo after locking DeCarlo in the Camel Clutch for the submission victory. During the match, The Sheik seems more preoccupied with Calhoun than he does with his opponent.
After the match, The Sheik refuses to release the Camel Clutch, despite the referee’s best intentions to pull him off.
Calhoun has had enough, and he moves towards the ring. Eddie Creatchman slides into the ring as Calhoun gets close, and pleads with The Sheik to let go of the Camel Clutch and leave the ring, but Sheik pays no attention to him, he just cinches up on the hold even more!
Calhoun enters the ring, grabs ahold of the Sheik, and pulls him off of DeCarlo! Calhoun nails Sheik with a series of big rights and lefts, even using his trusty horse-shoe to pummel The Sheik who finally bails out of the ring and he and Creatchman head for the locker room.
---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
MATCH #4 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Dino Bravo defeats Golden Boy Apollo after applying the Airplane Spin on Apollo, leading to the pinfall victory. ---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
Layton is joined on the set by
Chris Tolos and
The Masked Canadian.
Layton says that earlier on the program, Dino Bravo and the Crusader issued a challenge to the Canadian to find a partner and face them in the ring on October 11, and it looks like he has.
Canadian says that he has found a partner, a fellow Canadian, another wrestler, like himself, that these Canadian people can look up to and idolize. He says that he’s not surprised that Bravo got the Crusader to team with him, as the Crusader is a low-life, just like Bravo, those two deserve each other! He says that he wears a mask because if he didn’t, everywhere he went, his adoring Canadian fans would never leave him alone. This way, his true identity is secret, so when he’s out on the street or having dinner, no one knows it’s him. On the other hand, the Crusader wears a mask because he’s so ugly, if he showed his face on this program, not only would nobody watch, as the sight of his face would make them physically ill, but his face would break the cameras!
Tolos says that Bravo and the Crusader were talking about this man being a disgrace to Canadians, but it’s those two that are the disgrace. He says that men like himself and the Canadian here are winners, they are the kind of men that the Canadian people, children especially, should look up to, not a couple of losers like Dino Bravo and the Crusader!
MATCH #5 - NON-TITLE MATCH - 1 fall, TV time remaining:
The Love Brothers defeat The Beast & Terry Yorkston in a Non-Title match after Hartford pinned Yorkston, following a piledriver. Layton wraps up the show. He talks briefly about next week's show, where we'll see the Masked Canadian and Chris Tolos in tag team action, U.S. Champion The Sheik will be in action, as will local favourite Billy Red Lyons. And the feature bout will see The Love Brothers in tag team action again, this time against former World's Champion Edouard Carpentier and the tough veteran, Steve Bolus. Until next time, we'll see you at ringside!
