NWA Championship Wrestling From Amarillo KFDA Studios September 23, 1977 Steve Stack is joined in the studio this week by none other than his guest commentator this week’s broadcast, Playboy Gary Hart. Stack asks just what as has brought Mr. Hart to Western States Wrestling and the Playboy says that Amarillo is the next logical step in his plan to rule to the wrestling world. He says he has a real treat for the wrestling fans because he’s brought the #1 tag team in the world with him, Mr. Saito & Mr. Fuji, and they will be wrestling on today’s program. He also says he’ll be “blessing” all the people will his expert commentary and then asks Steve Stack who else will be on the program today. Steve Stack notes that Yoshi Fujiwara will attempt to take Mick McManus’ 7-Minute Challenge, Paul Orndorff & Bobby Eaton will face The Super Destroyers, and NWA International Heavyweight Champion Dory Funk Jr. will team with Jonny Weaver will face against Billy Spears and Tarzan Tyler in our main event. -1- In the 7-Minute Challenge, the young Japanese wrestler Yoshi Fujiwara attempts to last the full time limit with the “South London Bully” Mick McManus. McManus plays around with Yoshi in the opening minutes and he clearly doesn’t take the young man seriously, but that changes when Fujiwara catches Mick with a kick to the chops. Yoshi lands a series of kicks and now goes for a savate kick, but McManus blocks and whips him to the canvas. McManus then almost takes Fujiwara’s head off with a clotheslines and pins him to win and keep his money. (4:34) Playboy Gary interviews Robert Fuller, Gino Hernandez, and the returning Bobby Davis, who looks refreshed. Davis says the vacation did him good and he now knows that he had to cut to the fat and get rid of the monsters that couldn’t be controlled. Men like Fuller, Brisco, and of course Gino are the future of the Bobby Davis Corporation and will take the Corporation to gold in the future. In the middle of the interview, Dick Murdoch interrupts and says he got rid of Giant Baba like he promised and now he wants his Western States Heavyweight Championship back. Gino Hernandez says Murdoch is a loser and doesn’t deserve a rematch, especially against “the double champion.” Bobby Davis says Dick Murdoch can cry himself a river because he’ll only get a rematch when Gino Hernandez is good and ready. Fuller and Hernandez taunt as they walk off with Bobby Davis, while Dick Murdoch stands with a look of fury in his eyes. -2- Playboy Gary Hart leaves the announcer’s booth and introduces his team of Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito who absolutely destroy Blue Panther & Ricky Thompson in a matter of mere moments. Saito and Fuji are clearly one of the most dominant tag teams in professional wrestling today and they don’t even let Ricky Thompson tag into the ring during the match. Mr. Saito pins Blue Panther after driving him into the canvas with belly-to-back suplex. After the match ends, Mr. Fuji pulls Ricky Thompson into the ring and kicks him in the chest, knocking him to the floor. (3:01) Steve Stack interviews NWA International Heavyweight Champion Dory Funk Jr. who says it’s been a tough few weeks for the Funk family since Terry lost the NWA World Heavyweight Title. He said he’s still incredibly proud of his brother and says the people still know that the Funk family is the First Family in all of professional wrestling. Dory says he’s looking forward to looking forward to some new competition now that he’s run the Mongolian Stomper out of the territory. Suddenly, a commotion is heard and someone can be heard ranting and raving heading towards the interview area. It turns out to be Robert Fuller, who is accompanied by Bobby Davis, and Fuller has apparently taken umbrage to Dory saying the Funks are the First Family in all of wrestling. Robert gets right in Dory’s face and says the Funks have been resting on their laurels, while he and his brother have been out winning championships. Robert says he could take the NWA International Heavyweight Championship anytime he wants and Dory interrupts him and says he’ll defend the belt against anyone at any time. Dory says it looks like the time has come to find out just who the #1 family in professional wrestling really is: the Funks or the Fullers. -3- In a tag team match, Paul Orndorff & Bobby Eaton fought The Super Destroyers to a time limit draw. Eaton and Orndorff showed great teamwork together as did the masked veteran and his protégé. They went back and forth throughout the match, but towards the end it looked like Orndorff and Eaton had the original Super Destroyer in a lot of trouble. The time limit unfortunately expired before they could put him away, however. Paul and Bobby asked for five more minutes, which the fans wanted and SD II seemed to want as well because he clearly wanted to tear his “pretty boy” opponents to pieces. However, the original Super Destroyer refused and led his partner to the dressing room. (10:00) Playboy Gary Hart talks more with Steve Stack about his various managerial successes throughout Florida, WCCW, and other areas. All the while, Mr. Saito and Mr. Fuji stand behind them ominously and every once in a while, Fuji makes a sound. Hart says these two men will bring him tag team gold and he also has a man coming in from Halstead Street in Chicago that’s the baddest man on earth today. He’s a 400 pound monster that loves to beat people up and he’ll take on anyone at any time. He says this man will be here in due time, but in the mean time the Japanese connection of Fuji and Saito will destroy any and all tag teams put in their way. -4- In our TV main event, Johnny Weaver & Dory Funk Jr. defeated Billy Spears & Tarzan Tyler when Funk caught Spears in the Spinning Toe Submission and forced him to submit. Spears and Tyler are two tough individuals and make for some tough competition for the current and former International Heavyweight Champion. As usual, Tyler tries to maim his opponent by using his hands to pull at Weaver’s face, but Johnny fights him off and make the tag to Dory. Funk comes in and cleans house on both opponents. Spears comes in and goes a few rounds with Dory, but Funk puts him down, works over his right leg, and then finishes him off with the Spinning Toe. After the match, Robert Fuller and Bobby Davis come out from the back and Fuller taunts Dory in the aisle way as Weaver and Funk look on in the ring.
