WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
Hinkle Fieldhouse
Indianapolis, IN
9/23/77
Bell Time 3:00

MATCH #!

DOS CARAS  VS  THE BLACK CAT

Tremendous opener as these two Jr. heavyweights thrill the fans with high-flying maneuvers.  Neither man can get a real advantage and the match ends in a 15 minute time limit draw.

WINNER:  NONE - TIME LIMIT DRAW

MATCH #2

KILLER KARL KRUPP w/Gerhardt Kaiser  VS  BOBBY BOLD EAGLE

Early offense by Bold Eagle with chops.  Krupp then takes over and throttles Bobby.  Krupp wins with the German Claw.

WINNER:  KILLER KARL KRUPP @6:18

MATCH #3

KENGO KIMURA & KENJI SHIBUYA w/ Gen. Cannon  VS  BIG DADDY & BIG RED

Big Daddy has revenge in his eyes after the sneak attack on TV.  He and Red have the Asians rocking with punches, kicks, bodyslams, & elbow drops.  Cannon climbs onto the ring apron and is dragged into the ring by Red & Daddy.  As they prepared to give the vile manager a double splash in the corner, Pak Song Nam ran to the ring and interfered on behalf of his manager.  The Asians and Cannon beat down the giants and leave them for dead.  Red & Daddy are awarded the victory by disqualification, but that does little to ease their pain.

WINNERS:  BIG DADDY & BIG RED - BY DQ @10:54

MATCH #4

THE VON BRAUNERS w/Gerhardt Kaiser  VS  CHIEF WHITE OWL & BILLY RED CLOUD

Very competitive match early.  The Indian team looked impressive for a while, but the Germans came out on top in the end with a double backbreaker on Red Cloud.

WINNERS:  THE VON BRAUNERS @12:01

INTERMISSION

MATCH #5

OTTO WANZ  VS  MIL MASCARAS

This scientific contest was a true classic.  Wanz' size and mat skills vs Mascaras' high-flying moves.  Mil confused the giant Austrian early with drop kicks, head-scissors, arm drags, and flying tackles.  Wanz could not get to his feet until twenty minutes had passed.  Finally, Mil made a mistake.  As he climbed the ropes to finish off Wanz with a cross-body block, Wanz caught and powerslammed him.  From there, Wanz employed bodyslams, leg-drops, headlocks, and a bearhug.  Mil was in trouble.  Mil tried his best and finally maneuvered himself close enough to the ropes to grab them.  As he did, Wanz lost his balance and he and Mascaras tumbled to the Fieldhouse floor.  The referee counted to ten as neither man was able to make it back into the ring in time.  After the match, both men shook hands to the delight of the assembled throng.

WINNER:  NONE - DOUBLE COUNT-OUT @37:21

MATCH #6

ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER  VS  ANTONIO INOKI

Abdullah attacked before the bell and threw the rulebook out immediately.  Vicious judo thrusts, kicks, and punches were in the madman from Sudan's arsenal.  He had no intention of winning this match, almost as if someone had paid him to cripple the Japanese legend.  Inoki struggled to put up some offense, but was thwarted at every turn.  As the Butcher tried to pull out his fork, it fell to the mat.  This was Inoki's chance.  Inoki kicked Abby while he bent to pick up the fork.  Kick after kick after kick landed to the mid-section of the Sudanese assassin.  Finally, Inoki grabbed the fork and began carving Abdullah like a Butterball turkey.  The referee tried to restrain the enraged Inoki, but Antonio would not heed his warnings.  With no other option, the referee stopped the match and gave Abdullah the win by disqualification.  Looking at the two after the match, the fans could tell who the real winner was in this contest.

WINNER:  ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER - BY DQ @8:44

MATCH #7

WWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
DICK THE BRUISER  VS  PAK SONG NAM w/Gen. Cannon

Bruiser entered the ring still favoring the arm that was injured in the match last Sunday against Shibuya.  This did not go un-noticed by the Korean giant.  He sprang from his corner with chops to the injued limb which crumpled Bruiser to the canvas.  Bare-footed kicks and knee drops only worsened the pain of the champion.  Soon, Nam applied a nervehold that was similar to the one used last week.  Pain was etched on the face of Dick as Nam dug deep into the tendons and muscles of Bruiser's left arm.  The referee asked Dick several times to submit, but he refused.  Several minutes passed and it looked like Bruiser was on the verge of unconsciousness.  The fans began to chant "BRUISER, BRUISER, BRUISER."  Slowly, Bruiser rose to one knee.  Then the other.  Then one foot.  Then the other!!! Bruiser was UP!  He reached back and threw the hardest American fist he could muster and it broke the hold.  More punches.  Kicks.  Dick was a one-armed wrecking machine.  Nam reeled from the barrage. and fell to the canvas.  Just as Bruiser was preparing to climb the ropes to deliver the big knee-drop, Cannon, Shibuya, & Kimura ran to ringside and pulled Pak Song from the ring.  The Asians turned to find Big Daddy and Big Red staring at them face to face.  The fists started flying and Bruiser joined the fray.  The referee had no choice but to rule the match a no contest.

WINNER:  NONE - NO CONTEST @26:59

Great action, but the lack of clean finishes (5 out of 7 matches either DQ or no decision) leaves me wondering if I need to drop my money for next week's show...

A big foreign presence in Indiana and that will only make the Bruiser have to work that much harder to stay on top. Thought his match with Pak Song Nam was one of hte best all night.

Don't have him under estimate Killer Karl Krupp though. Long term he is the biggest threat to that gold.

I may be in the minority but I never minded DQ's, COR's etc. in matches like these. When you went to see Abby, Sheik etc. you knew it was going to end up getting out of control and finishing without a clean finish. The excitement of the war between Inoki and Abby, and Pak Song and DTB more than made up for the finish.
I'm paying my money next week to see another war between Inoki and Abby. At some point though I'd like to see Abby and Pak teaming and maybe a war between the two monsters.

I agree with the consensus here that Inoki, DTB and Abby are the exception the rule. You expect DQs in there in their matches and those results didn't take any enjoyment from me! Big Daddy and Big Red is one jumbo tag team, they'll have to reinforce the rings for those two fellows for sure.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.  I am not a fan of non-finishes, however, with so much new talent I felt they were necessary to keep everyone strong at this point.  I tried to make the action enjoyable to make up for the finishes.
Once everyone is over strong, I don't expect to use many non-finishes.  Thanks for reading.  I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy participating here.  Mike.

I liked this show even with all the draws and DQ's. To me it did not take anything away from the show it was full of good action.
