“Championship Wrestling from Florida”
Sportatorium
Tampa, FL
Announcer-Gordon Solie
Taped-9/26/77
Airs-9/29/77

Highlights of the Jack Brisco vs. Wahoo McDaniel World Title match open the show.

Solie, “What a match from Jacksonville. Jack Brisco and Wahoo McDaniel went 60 minutes and decided nothing. These two must meet again. We have a lot to talk about today. We will talk to Jack Brisco about the match with McDaniel. We have a fantastic feature match. We will also have an update on the condition of Eddie Graham. You all remember the heinous actions of the Spoiler from last week. We will also talk to the Spoiler.

Brisco comes out to join Solie.

Solie, “Mr. Brisco, that was quite a match. You and the World Champion were dead even.”

Brisco, “Thank you Gordon. Wahoo is a great wrestler. I thought I had him a couple of times and I’m sure he felt the same way. I want another shot at him and I know I can beat him.”

Solie, “I, for one, would like to see the rematch, but you have something else to think about. You are the Florida Champion and many people would love to get a shot at you.”

Brisco, “I will continue to defend the Florida Title against all comers, but I’ll keep an eye on that big Indian from Oklahoma and when he comes back to Florida, I’ll be ready for him.”

Solie, “That’s exciting news. We will wait and see when that will happen..”

Match #1
Non-Title Match
Jack Brisco (Florida Champion) def. Jack Armstrong (5:57) w/figure four

Solie, “Let’s see what happened last week. I would advise parents to remove their children from the room. This is not a pleasant site.”

We see the Spoiler apply the claw to Eddie Graham. He refuses to release the hold and Graham is left bloody.

Solie, “Mr. Graham suffered serious injuries at the hands of the Spoiler. He is recuperating and he will return to wrestling, but no date has been set. Let’s bring out the Spoiler and Sir Oliver Humperdink.”

Spoiler and Humperdink join Solie.

Solie, “Mr. Spoiler, what you did to Eddie Graham was a terrible display of sportsmanship and you should be ashamed of yourself.”

Spoiler, “That’s what you think? I think a washed-up, has-been challenged me and I took care of him, just like I plan to do to Austin Idol.”

Solie, “That brings me to our second topic. You and Austin Idol wrestled to a 60 minute draw in Tampa. Now a rematch has been signed. On Tuesday night, October 16, you two will meet again in Tampa. Can you take the title from Austin Idol?”

Humperdink, “I’ll take this. Idol, you saw what happened to old man Graham. I’ve heard that you have said that you will avenge him. That’s not going to happen. My man will be the Southern Champion! You can bank on that!”

Solie, “Strong words. We will hear from Austin Idol later in the program.”

Match #2
Nelson Royal w/Great Bolo def. Rick Drasin (6:03) w/bulldog

Solie is with Bolo and the Manchurians.

Solie, “The Great Bolo with us. This time he has the Manchurians, the Florida Tag Team Champions, with him. Mr. Bolo, we will see the Manchurians in a non-title match today, but title matches loom on the horizon. Mike Graham and Steve Keirn are waiting in the wings and they want those belts.”

Bolo, “So what? Graham almost broke his leg because he’s uncoordinated. Now he’s back and that fool, Keirn, thinks he’s some American hero. These two men are from the Far East and they have beaten people from Peking, to Saigon, to Cairo. They will hold these belts as long as they want to. No American punk kids are going to beat them. Graham, Keirn, save your selves. Don’t even get in the ring with us, it will not be pretty!”

Solie, The Manchurians will be defending the titles against Graham and Keirn all over the state of Florida. Get to the local arena and see this matchup.”

Bolo, “One more thing Solie, I’ll be out later and I have some big news for you.”

Solie, “Really?”

Match #3
Non-Title Match
The Manchurians (Florida Tag Team Champions) w/Great Bolo def. John “Wolfman” Smith  and Louisiana Assassin (5:28) Manchurian #1 w/nerve hold vs. Smith

Solie is with Austin Idol.

Solie, “With us now, the Southern Heavyweight Champion, Austin Idol. Mr. Idol, you and the Spoiler went 60 minutes and Tampa and neither man could gain a win. A rematch has been signed. On Tuesday night, October 16, you two will meet at the Hesterly Armory again. You know you will have to be ready.”

Idol ,”Oh, you better believe I know that. The Spoiler is very good and Humperdink is always hanging around. Gordon, I love being the Champion, and I know it won’t be easy to keep this belt. I will promise the fans of Florida and the fans of Tampa in particular, I will be ready and the Spoiler will not take this from me!”

Solie, “Let’s see Mr. Idol in action, and remember the rematch with the Spoiler will be ‘One for the Ages’.”

Match #4
Non-Title Match
Austin Idol (Southern Champion) def. Chin Lee (6:42) w/Las Vegas leglock

Solie is with Red Bastein.

Solie, “Fans, this man needs no introduction to the fans of Florida. Red Bastein is one of the most respected wrestlers in the game. He has been to Florida before. He and Johnny Valentine has some great battles. Red, welcome back to Florida.”

Bastein, “Thank you Gordon. I’ve been looking for competition. I’ve been to Texas and I’ve been in California and there are a lot of great wrestlers in those areas, but the best are here in Florida. I look around and I see Jack Brisco, the Assassin, the Spoiler, Bob Armstrong and other greats. I want to throw my hat in the ring and take on the best Florida has to offer.”

Solie, “Well, you can count of one thing, any match with Red Bastein in it will be a great match. I am looking forward to seeing you in action.”

Match #5
Buddy Wolff def. Pat McGinnis (6:49) Eaton

Solie is seated at the desk. The Great Bolo and the Assassin come out. Bolo hands Solie a piece of paper.

Bolo, “Read that Solie.”

Solie, “This is a Championship Wrestling from Florida contract. It is for a Florida TV Title match, to be held next week, between Bob Armstrong and the Assassin. That’s big news, we have a TV Title match on tap for next week.”

Bolo, “Read the clause at the bottom.”

Solie, “Wow! It says that Frenchy Bernard is assigned as the referee and cannot be replaced under any circumstances. Mr. Bernard is a fine referee and he will call the match evenly, but this has to be what the Great Bolo and the Assassin were looking for.”

Assassin, “You’re darned right, it’s what we wanted. No Rhodes! The fat cowboy won’t be refereeing the match and I will be the TV Champion again!”

Solie, “You still seem convinced that ‘Mr. Official I’ is Dusty Rhodes. There is no proof of that, but it doesn’t matter because Frenchy Bernard will be the official of record for the match.”

Bolo, “That’s right, it doesn’t matter. The Assassin will be the TV Champion.”

Solie, “Fans, you don’t want to miss next week’s show. The Assassin will challenge Bob Armstrong for the TV Title and Frenchy Bernard will be the referee. Until then, so long from the Sunshine State.”

I will be watching next week to see how The Assassin does against Armstrong.

Great win for The Manchurians. They are dominating the tag wars.

Brisco is a great challenger for the World Title. Hope he doesn't look too far ahead with that Florida title.

Great show.
