AWA International Wrestling TV 9/15/77
Sep 26th, 2007, 1:09pm

AWA International Wrestling TV 9/15/77 (Taped 9/12/77)

International Wrestling opens with a different look and a new name for the TV show!

International Wrestling presents... "LES ÉTOILES DE LA LUTTE!" (The Superstars of Wrestling)

All matches are sanction by the AWA!

This show is coming to you from CHLT TV studios in Sherbrooke, Québec!

And now your hosts of the show Jack Curran & Jack Britton!

The hosts open the show by announcing that due to the upset win “Quick Draw” Rick McGraw got over TV champion Larry Sharpe at the Forum some 2 weeks back, the match maker’s in the AWA have decided that they are going to do things a little differently this week and instead of drawing a name from a fish bowl to see who faces the Television champion, for this week only Rick McGraw will automatically be named the challenger for the title on today’s program!

This brings out TV Champion Larry Sharpe and his “partner in crime” Jack Evans. Both men are irate and argue with Jack Curran, who says he didn’t make the decision he just announced it. Sharpe demands to meet with whoever decided to make this match. Out comes International chairman Johnny Rougeau. Johnny tells Sharpe, like it or not, the match WILL happen on today’s program. Sharpe mentions how McGraw’s win was tainted due to outside interference from Serge Dumont. Johnny Rougeau reminds Sharpe that the Pretty Boy’s title win over Mad Dog Lefebvre was also tainted. This shuts Sharpe up…momentarily anyway.

Sharpe pulls out his contract and points out, that nowhere in the TV champion’s contract does it say they can FORCE the Pretty Boy to face anyone without their name being pulled at random. Johnny Rougeau sighs and agrees with Sharpe.

Sharpe then says he will make a deal….he WILL still put his title on the line if McGraw puts something on the line as well…HIS JOB! If McGraw will agree to put up his career here in IW on the line Sharpe will give him a title shot!

Out comes Rick McGraw who agrees with little hesitation to the challenge made by Sharpe. Later in today’s program it WILL be Larry Sharpe defending his Television Title against Rick McGraw’s career. If McGraw does not win the match he MUST leave

Sharpe adds one more thing to the stipulations! If Serge Dumont comes to ringside at ANY point in the bout, McGraw automatically loses and will have to leave Montreal. McGraw promises Dumont will not be at ringside. Quick Draw leaves to prepare for this ever so important match up.

Bout 1: Eric the Red (w/Major Duke George & The Hangman) defeated newcomer, the Green Hornet after a splash in 45 seconds. Eric delivered a second splash after the match. Eric the Red finally gets up off the Hornet after the Major blows the dog-like whistle that seems to control the wild beast.

Major Duke is interviewed by Curran and talks about his men defeating the Rougeau Brothers, and even more Eric the Red PINNED the Quebec Heavyweight Champion, Raymond Rougeau. The Major lets the cat out of the bag and announces Raymond Rougeau will be facing AWA WORLD Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel for the title on October 1st at the Forum. The Major thinks it should be Eric the Red getting the title shot since he recently pinned Raymond.

Curran asks Duke where Paul LeDuc has gone after the duo seemed to split ways at the Forum. The Major calls LeDuc ungrateful and says he sent the Canadian Lumberjack packing out of the area.

Duke promises Raymond Rougeau, that he can’t dodge Eric forever and when he does get in the ring with him one on one, Eric will be the new champion.

Major Duke then mentions he is NOT done with Mad Dog Lefebvre by a long shot, and he is sending his enforcer, the Hangman after Lefebvre the first chance he gets!

Curran tries to talk to Duke about the Major’s “match” he had against Jacques Sr. but Duke decides he has more important things to do than to discuss such matters.

The Hangman shoves the microphone back to Curran as the Army leaves.

Bout 2: Jacques Rougeau Jr. defeated Fred Peloquin with a flying body block in 4:00

After the match young Jacques talked about the Rougeau Brothers recent loss to the Duke Army, but says they will spring back like they always do. Jacques congratulates his brother on earning an AWA World Title shot against Nick Bockwinkel on October 1st, then Jacques does the unthinkable and makes an open challenge to ANY member of the Duke Army for that same night. Jacques says he will face any member of the Army in order to get some revenge for the Rougeau family name!

It’s interview time and out first is Quebec Heavyweight Champion Raymond Rougeau to talk about his recent loss to the Duke’s Army. Raymond talks about Eric the Red and his vicious splash that caused a pin fall over the champion. Ray says the best way to prevent it from happening again is staying on his feet! Rougeau then talks about his AWA World Title shot against Nick Bockwinkel that’s coming up in a couple weeks. Raymond is proud he has earned the shot and will make the best of this very important World Title match!

Out next is Chief War Cloud who Curran grills with questions in regards to the Chief leaving Billy Two Rivers alone to face two men in a recent tag team encounter. War Cloud called it tough love and said Two Rivers is no longer a part of the War Cloud tribe. The Chief calls Two Rivers soft and says he has no heart. This brings out Billy Two Rivers.

Billy questions War Cloud’s recent change in behavior. The Chief says there is no room in his tribe for nothing’s like Two Rivers. The Chief then SLAPS Two Rivers, who refuses to hit War Eagle back. The Chief slaps him again and this time Two Rivers has had enough and unloads on the Chief! The two Indians begin to brawl as officials try to break the mayhem up!

Bout 3: “Cyanide” Sid Cooper & “Strongman” Alan Dennison (w/Sir J.R. Foley) defeated Greg Peterson & Len Shelley when Dennison made Peterson submit to the stump puller in 4:30.

After the contest Foley & his men joined Curran for an interview. Mr. Foley talked about his team being the reigning British Tag Team Champions and that they are now in Montreal to take the International Titles, currently held by the Mercenaries.

Curran notes that the Mercenaries have defeated every team that has come through Montreal at one time or another. Dennison grabs the microphone and says that stops now, the Mercenaries will NOT defeat the Brits!

When we come back it’s going to be Larry Sharpe defending his TV Title against the Career of Rick McGraw…

VS.
Bout 4: TV Champion Larry Sharpe (w/Jack Evans) vs. Rick McGraw (Title vs. Career)
This is the much-anticipated match of the day with McGraw putting his career up against Larry Sharpe’s Television belt. The stakes are high as the match begins. Sharpe brings out Jack Evans and points out Serge Dumont is at no time permitted in the studio during this match or McGraw loses by disqualification and will leave town!

McGraw is fiery to begin, bouncing Sharpe around like a Ping-Pong ball. Sharpe calls for a time out but there’s no luck in the Sport of Professional Wrestling. McGraw hits a backdrop and a dropkick and covers for two when Jack Evans distracts the referee at ringside. Evans then distracts McGraw allowing Sharpe to take control of the contest.

The Pretty Boy, uses every trick in the book to try and wipe out Rick McGraw’s career in International Wrestling but Quick Draw’s heart keeps him fighting back. Sharpe tries for his patented piledriver but can’t get McGraw up. Rick fights back countering with a backdrop and both men go down. Rick finds his way to his feet and begins on the offense yet again!

Quick Draw hits a powerslam for a very close two count! McGraw with another dropkick, then Jack Evans climbs onto the apron! McGraw DROPKICKS Evans off the apron and goes to cover on Larry Sharpe. 1----2------3! McGraw has pinned Sharpe! Rick McGraw wins the TV Title! At this moment Jack Evans places Sharpe’s leg over top the bottom rope and points it out to referee Adrian Desbois!

The referee calls off the pin fall in fear he made a mistake and Sharpe’s foot was over the bottom rope. Referee Desbois, restarts the match as Sharpe rolls to the apron. Larry slowly uses the ropes to climb back to his feet on the apron…MCGRAW goes for a suplex on Sharpe back into the ring! Wait a minute, Jack Evans just tripped up McGraw from the outside and is holding his feet down! Sharpe lands on top of McGraw 1-----2------3! Larry Sharpe has defeated Rick McGraw in 7:45! Larry Sharpe retains the TV Title, and Rick McGraw must leave International Wrestling!

Jack Evans brings Sharpe the TV Title and they place it on the mat. Sharpe is going to add insult to injury, he is going to PILEDRIVE McGraw onto the Title belt. Sharpe picks Rick up and gets him up for a piledriver when Serge Dumont hits the ring with a piece of a board!

Dumont clears the ring of Sharpe & Evans and check on McGraw as we go to commercial.

Back from the commercials and Jack Curran is saddened at the injustice done to Rick McGraw in the prior contest. He hopes Serge Dumont can extract some revenge on Sharpe & Evans who have been running rough shot over International Wrestling now for months, causing mayhem where ever they go.

Next week on International Wrestling…
TV Champion Larry Sharpe will once again be in action! Will Serge Dumont be here?
The International Tag Team Champions, The Mercenaries will be here!
The Enforcer of Duke’s Army, The Hangman will be in 1 on 1 competition.
We will have an interview by video from AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel
Will Major Duke accept the open challenge made by Jacques Rougeau Jr? Plus more on the Forum card for October the 1st and so much more. Join us then!

Man, I was really pulling for McGraw. Great return for Dumont, though.

Eric the Red is awesome. Only a matter of time until there is gold there.

The team of Cooper and Dennison is something else.
