AWA International Wrestling TV 9/22/77
Sep 27th, 2007, 11:00am

AWA International Wrestling TV 9/22/77 (Taped 9/19/77)

~ In a match not taped for television, International Tag Team Champions The Mercenaries defeated Terry Garvin & Fred Peloquin in a non-title match at 6:30 when Frenchie Martin pinned Peloquin after a double shoulder breaker.

International Wrestling presents..."LES ÉTOILES DE LA LUTTE!" (The Superstars of Wrestling)

All matches are sanction by the AWA!

This show is coming to you from CHLT TV studios in Sherbrooke, Québec!

And now your hosts of the show Jack Curran & Jack Britton!

Curran and Britton begin the show by talking about the big news of Raymond Rougeau getting an AWA World Title shot against the champion Nick Bockwinkel, in less than 2 weeks!

Then they discuss last weeks “Title vs. Loser Leaves Town” match that saw TV Champion Larry Sharpe (along with the help of Jack Evans) defeat Rick McGraw. The TV champions will be here again today, and the name pulled out of the bowl this week for Sharpe to meet will be revealed shortly.

Serge Dumont is out, and he is upset! Dumont talks about Sharpe stealing the victory last week over McGraw. Dumont takes us back several months and mentions the Texas Death Match he had with Sharpe, where the Pretty Boy and Jack Evans attempted to cripple Dumont for life. Serge says since Sharpe & Evans like trying to end careers so much, why don’t they put up their careers! Dumont challenges Evans & Sharpe to a “Loser Leaves Town” Tag Team contest for the Forum on October 1st. The Lose of the fall has to leave town for no less than a year!

Serge closes the segment by promising to get his hands on Larry Sharpe before the broadcast ends today!

Before the first contest Larry Sharpe is out and refuses to wrestle with Serge Dumont still in the building. Curran says to his understanding, no one has seen Serge since before the break. Sharpe agrees to a Loser Leaves town Tag Team match if he and Evans get to pick Serge’s partner. International Chairman Johnny Rougeau is out and threatens to strip Sharpe of the TV Title if he doesn’t defend it today.

Sharpe asks Johnny Rougeau who his opponent is for today’s program. Johnny Rougeau tells Sharpe he will be meeting the Green Hornet later today.

Larry Sharpe asks his partner Jack Evans if the Green Hornet was the jabronie that Evans defeated in no time flat a couple weeks back, and Evans agreed it was. Sharpe then agrees to have his TV title defense but tells his partner Jack Evans, he won’t be needing any help at ringside and asks him to wait outside the building with the car running.

Larry Sharpe speculates he will beat the Hornet in under a minute then high tail it to a running car. Hmmmmm

Jack Evans heads to the ring for his match.

Bout 1: The Masked Mr. Pro defeated “Dynamite” Jack Evans (w/Larry Sharpe) when Pro tried a sunset flip back into the ring and Sharpe grabbed Evans hands to keep him from falling back. Referee Andre Roy kicks the hands of Sharpe away from Evans, and the momentum sent Evans flying back into the sunset flip for the 1-2-3 at 3:30.

Evans and Sharpe are visibly upset after the match. A big win for the undefeated Mr. Pro.

Mad Dog Lefebvre is in the studio and joins Curran and Britton on commentary for the next encounter.

Bout 2: The Hangman (w/Major Duke George) defeated Len Shelley with a swinging neckbreaker in 3:00.

After the contest The Hangman and the Major confront Lefebvre at the commentary area. Lefebvre mentions that the Major stated the Hangman wanted a piece of Lefebvre at the first chance he could get. Mad Dog Lefebvre asks the Hangman what’s stopping him right now? The Hangman comes after Lefebvre but Duke pulls him back.

Duke tells Lefebvre he is barbaric and his men do their fighting in the ring, not in a parking lot. The Major tells Lefebvre since he wants the Hangman so bad, he will get him…at the Montreal Forum on the first!

Lefebvre is very pleased by this news and plans to dismantle the Major’s Army, once & for all. Mad Dog walks away leaving The Major & the Hangman with Jack Curran

The Major then announces that he has accepted the challenge of the younger dumber Rougeau brother, Jacques Jr. Last week Jacques made an open challenge to ANY member of Duke’s Army, and he put his foot in his mouth, because now at the Forum, the younger Rougeau brother will meet…Eric the Red! The Major chuckles as he leaves with his enforcer.

Curran looks worried for young Jacques.

Back from break Curran brings out the reigning International Tag Team Champions, The Mercenaries, Frenchie Martin & Mad Dog Martel to the fans delight. Curran talks to them about some of their recent teams they've had some hard fought battles with including the Von Brauner’s and most recently, the Alaskan Bear, Mike & Jay York.

Bout 3: International Tag Champions the Mercenaries vs. The Alaskan Bears (from 9/3/77 in the Forum)
A video is now show joined in progress from the Forum of the Mercenaries defeating the Alaskans in a wild bout. Frenchie does some commentary over the video explaining the match and how tough the York’s were.

After the video ends Curran asks Frenchie & Martel about their future. The Mercenaries hide from no team and they know there are other teams waiting in the works just looking for title shots…Evans & Sharpe, Hangman & Eric the Red, even the Rougeau Brothers!

Frenchie states the champions will dodge no one and take on all comers no matter who they be.

It’s interview time and first we are given a huge treat as Jack Curran introduces a video interview from the AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel who will be in the area shortly to take on Raymond Rougeau!

~ Nick Bockwinkel appears in a dapper suit with large sunglasses on the screen with the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE draped over his left shoulder. Nick talks about some of the names he has defeated then talks a little about being a second-generation wrestler. Bockwinkel states he knows Raymond Rougeau is also a second-generation star, but Jacques Rougeau Sr. could have never shined the shoes of Warren Bockwinkel in their heyday. Bockwinkel drops a bombshell by announcing that he will be here next week LIVE in the studio to get a closer look at Raymond Rougeau before their bout on the first of October.

The video ends and Curran makes note the World Champion WILL be here in the studio NEXT WEEK!

Curran is now interrupted by the new tag team of “Cyanide” Sid Cooper & “Strongman” Alan Dennison along with their manager Sir J.R. Foley. Mr. Foley right away asks who this “Bockwinkel guy” is, and says the only real champion is the British Heavyweight Champion, Billy Robinson over in England, he said if Billy Robinson got wind of this “Bockwinkel character” he would break him in two. Foley mentions it’s a good thing Billy Robinson wrestles over seas or there would be a new World Champion here in the AWA. Now onto more important things at the moment.

Foley heard the Mercenaries out here earlier naming off future challenger possibilities, and the champions seemed to have left his team of Dennison & Cooper off the list! Foley is outraged that his men were over looked and promises the Mercenaries they won’t be looked over for long. Foley proclaims his team to be the next International Tag Team Champions!

Before the next contest Sharpe asks Curran if there has been any sight of Serge Dumont since the opening of the program, to Curran;s understanding there has not. Sharpe thinks Dumont ran off scared after Sharpe accepted the Loser Leaves Town match for the 1st of the month. Sharpe thinks Dumont saved himself a butt whipping and left town early!

Sharpe tells Evans to “go start the car and be waiting”, this match against the Green Hornet won’t take long!

Bout 4: Television Champion “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe vs. The Green Hornet
As the match starts, Curran mentions that it appears the Hornet has bulked up a little for this contest. The Hornet thwarts some early offense on Sharpe, but a thumb to the eyes and the Pretty Boy is in control! Sharpe’s control doesn’t last long when the Hornet counters a piledriver with a backdrop and goes on the offense over Sharpe.

The fans seem to know what’s going on as they’re coming alive! The Hornet is all over Sharpe opn the mat refusing to get off of him, slamming his head into the canvas, raking his face across the mat and pounding rights and lefts into the Pretty Boy’s face! Jack Evans is nowhere to be found as he’s outside with the car running!

Sharpe has no help! Official Adrian Desbois has no choice but to DQ the Green Hornet at the 4:30 mark. Sharpe finally escapes the clutches of the masked Green Hornet. After Sharpe rolls from the ring the Hornet stands up and unmasks to reveal himself as….SERGE DUMONT! Dumont was under the Hornet’s mask for this encounter!

Sharpe can’t believe it! With ring burn and blood on his face and head Sharpe begins to run as Dumont chases after him, all the way out of the building. The cameras can not follow the two outside, but it is expect that Sharpe made it to his get away car pretty quickly as Dumont comes back inside the building. Serge walks over to Curran and accepts the “Loser Leaves Town” Tag Team Challenge for the 1st!

Curran and Britton talk about what just transpired between Sharpe & Dumont and discuss what may happen when the Loser Leaves Town match goes down. Curran and Britton then begin discussing some of the big matches now slated for the Forum on the first of October.

Next weeks show is a big one fans, already scheduled…
- AWA World Champion NICK BOCKWINKEL will be here live in the studio!
- Quebec Heavyweight Champion Raymond Rougeau will be in action.
- Larry Sharpe will again be in action, defending his Television Title. Who will he pick as Serge Dumont’s partner for the Forum?
- Chief War Cloud will be in singles action along with his new attitude.
Plus more!

I loved The Green Hornet angle. Great return for Dumont.

Nice to see the Mr. Pro push.

The Mercenaries are what true fighting champions are all about.

The Major is a trapped rat. Those are dangerous.

Great  International action.

Thanks to all for this great feeback, really been working hard to get the angles set where I want them. I hope everyone continues to enjoy it as they continue to play out. I have a lot of guys on the roster that I have yet to use, but look for a lot of new faces in the area very soon.
