WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL SUPERSTRELLAS DE LA LUCHE LIBRE WAPA-TV CHANNEL 4 SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO TAPED: SEPTEMBER 27, 1977 BROADCAST: SEPTEMBER 29, 1977 COMMENTATOR: RICK ST. JAMES REFEREE: EL ATLETICO All bouts are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance. Theme music is played and the WWC logo is super imposed over arena match action. Rick St. James welcomes the studio and television crowds to the greatest wrestling from the greatest paradise: Puerto Rico. St. James comments about the heel turn of Victor Jovica against Hercules Ayala. A film clip shows the closing moments of the match when Jovica goes for a tag and Ayala is battling Gil Hayes on the floor. Rock Riddle gets the submission. Jovica responds with a chair shot to Ayala’s head. Hayes, Riddle, and Jovica continue the beat down until El Rayo, Roberto Soto, and Carlos Colon intervene. St. James says that Jovica will be here live today to answer some tough questions. Rock Riddle and Gil Hayes look like they will have some new opposition in Soto and Rayo. The ladies men will tag here today. Dory Dixon will be in singles action today because Earl Maynard has not made it to the studio, as of this point in the show. Will The Infernos make their presence known? The masked Mr. Justice and Pepper Gomez will compete in the squared circle today. St. James will talk with him and Pepper Gomez about matches with Togo and Super Medico. Our main event will showcase the number one tag team title contenders, Dean Ho and Carlos Colon, against The Infernos w/ J.C. Dykes. Fall may be close by, but the action is still hot in WWC. St. James says the action will boil over after these commercial messages. . . COMMERCIALS . . Additional film clips show the match from the match at Hiram Bithorn Stadium between Hercules Ayala and Victor Jovica. Jovica is especially vicious in his punishment of Ayala. St. James says that, up until last week, he thought Ayala and Jovica were close friends. After this match, St. James says, he will ask the question that everyone is asking: Why did Victor Jovica attack Hercules Ayala? VICTOR JOVICA vs. PEDRO EL GRANDE Jovica absolutely destroys El Grande. The finishing move is Jovica dropping El Grande’s face on the top turnbuckle from a body slam position. Jovica calls out Ayala’s name as he covers El Grande @ 3:18. WINNER: VICTOR JOVICA St. James joins Jovica at ringside. Jovica takes the mike from St. James and tells him to take the night off. Jovica says the brain trusts behind the World Wrestling Council getting started were Carlos Colon, Gorilla Monsoon, and him. Monsoon gets a shot at and wins the Puerto Rican title. Colon recruits wrestlers from the WWWF and gets tag gold there. He is left running the day by day arrangements in WWC. That means no glory and no glamour for Victor Jovica. Jovica says he even stayed out of the big matches to make the promotion a success, spending his time booking arenas and meeting wrestler’s needs. Even though Jovica deserved it, Hercules got the shot against Monsoon. Still, Jovica put aside what was good for him and offered to help Ayala with Gil Hayes and Rock Riddle When Ayala was fighting on the floor, instead of helping him, Jovica decided enough was enough. That’s why he took the chair to Ayala’s head. Enough is enough. Jovica slams the mike on the ring apron. St. James says that there will be payback as a result of Jovica’s actions. Mr. Justice will be in action next . . COMMERCIALS . . Film clips are shown of Pepper Gomez’s match with Tosh Togo from Hiram Bithorn Stadium this past Tuesday. Togo applies his abdominal claw after a Gomez win. Security has to break it up. St. James says that a new team was formed this past week on WWC TV. Mr. Justice and Pepper Gomez will provide stiff competition to Togo and Super Medico. They tune up for this coming week’s competition in a match today. PEPPER GOMEZ/ MR. JUSTICE vs. ALI BABA/ BULL GREGORY Baba and Gregory rake the eyes of Justice in the initial exchanges between the two. This gives them a slight early advantage. Justice and Gomez overcome the problems and dominate the contest for the most part. A series of suplexes on Gregory by Gomez and a sleeper by Justice on Baba net the faces the win @ 4:23. WINNERS: JUSTICE/ GOMEZ St. James meets the victorious team at ringside. Gomez says that he and Justice are getting their teamwork down and the losers in that will be Medico and Togo. He says that he is still upset about the injuries that he caused to Inoki but he will take his frustrations on those two. Justice says that he and Gomez have discussed some strategies that will get Medico and Togo in a bad way. He points he has used these questionable tactics before and he will enjoy hearing the cheers of the fans as he uses them against the villains. St. James says that those cheers will carry this team to great heights here in WWC. Earl Maynard has not arrived at the studio yet. The big question here is: What will Dory Dixon have to do? We find out next. . . COMMERCIALS . . A film clip shows The Masked Mammoth w/ Rock Hunter attacking Andre the Giant in San Juan. Inferno I gets the pin, even though his manager J. C. Dykes is suffering from a standing hammerlock by Earl Maynard. St. James says the match sheet he has shows Dory Dixon and Earl Maynard in a tag match in this segment. Earl Maynard has not arrived at the Channel 11 studios. The promoters have decided that Dixon will compete in a singles match. That same format sheet, however, says The Infernos and Dykes will join in on commentary, muses St. James. DORY DIXON vs. CICLON SUDAMERICANO Both wrestlers shake hands before the match. Dykes expresses concern over Maynard. He says there are a lot of devils out there and some even know how to slash tires. In the ring both wrestlers counter each other’s holds. Dixon hits a top rope dropkick and Ciclon is barely able to kick out. Ciclon hits a belly-to-back suplex. Dixon gets his shoulder up at the last minute. Eventually, Ciclon tries a victory roll but Dixon rolls through it for the pin @ 5:21. WINNER: DORY DIXON The Infernos hit the ring. Inferno II throws Ciclon to the studio floor. Inferno I bulldogs Dixon hard into the mat. The two masked men hold Dixon as Dykes slaps him, shouting halleluiah as he does so. Ciclon comes into the ring with a chair and the heels scramble to the back. St. James says it is a good thing Ciclon was willing to help Dixon. Hayes and Riddle thrill the ladies next. . . COMMERCIALS . . The end of the Jovica/Ayala match is shown again. This time St. James calls attention to the fact that Roberto Soto and El Rayo came to Ayala’s aid, taking on Gil Hayes and Rock Riddle. St. James comes back at the interview desk and says Hayes and Riddle have some new rivals in Soto and Rayo. GIL HAYES/ ROCK RIDDLE vs. BOB GRIFFIN/ ERICH FROELICH In contrast to their recent matches, Hayes and Riddle keep their attention in the ring instead of on the females in the audience. Riddle starts the bedlam by dropping Griffin’s knee over his. He drapes Griffin’s leg over the bottom rope and tags in Hayes. After just torturing Griffin, Hayes locks on his Indian death lock for the submission win @ 4:58 WINNERS: HAYES/ RIDDLE The victorious Blond Bombers meet St. James at the interview. Hays asks St. James just who do Rayo and Soto think they are? They come in here, have one match in an arena and they think they can hang with the big dogs in the yard. Riddle says that if those guys think they can do it better than they can, they need to talk to the men who wish they were us and the females that want to be with us. Soto and Rayo will just come and go quickly and that’s not good enough against him and Hayes. St. James says that the Blond Bombers may be living in a fantasy world. The main event is next. . . COMMERCIALS . . The show returns to a film clip of the match between The Samoan Kings and Carlos Colon and Dean Ho from Hiram Bithorn Stadium. The popular team of Colon and Ho score a non-title win over the WWC North American champions. St. James states that win propelled Colon and Ho into the number one contender’s spot for the North American titles. They face another top team in WWC as they face The Infernos w/ J. C. Dykes today. CARLOS COLON/ DEAN HO vs. THE INFERNOS w/ J.C. DYKES Ho and Colon Isolate Inferno II in their corner for the early part of this match. They concentrate on his neck and shoulder muscles. A canteen shot to Ho’s head out of the sight of Atletico gives the masked team a decided advantage. Inferno I taps the loaded boot and tries for an Inferno kick as Ho is bounced off the ropes. Ho ducks, rebounds, and delivers a flying forearm. As Ho and Inferno I struggle to their respective corners for a tag, Earl Maynard comes out to the interview desk. He is in street clothes that are covered in oil and grease. He says he had car troubles, not the least of which was four slashed tires. He was told back stage what The Infernos did to Dixon and what they said about devils and tires. Maynard says he has a repair bill that has to be paid. Maynard goes to ring side and begins to get in Dykes’ face. Inferno II is distracted and goes over to the corner. Colon goes behind the Inferno and rolls him up for the three count @ 6:23. Maynard hits Dykes. Dixon comes out and the faces are fighting with The Infernos as the closing theme starts. WINNERS: COLON/HO St. James tells both crowds to make every effort to see WWC live in your arenas this week. There is nothing like it. (c) CAPITAL SPORTS
