Gainesville High School Gainesville, FL 9/29/77 Opening Match, one fall, 20 minutes Chin Lee vs. John “Wolfman” Smith This is a fast paced opener. Lee uses martial arts and Smith counters with American rights and lefts. Smith wins with an elbow drop. Winner-John “Wolfman” Smith (12:53) Second Match, one fall, 20 minutes Jack Armstrong vs. Pat McGinnis Another action packed match between two unsung wrestlers. McGinnis, from Ireland, uses the British style with European uppercuts. Armstrong pulls out every dirty trick in the book. McGinnis finishes him off with a suplex. Winner-Pat McGinnis (14:39) Third Match, one fall, 30 minutes Ric Drasin vs. Louisiana Assassin Drasin takes on the mysterious man from Louisiana. The young girls in the crowd get behind the muscular Drasin. The Assassin chokes, kicks and punches and controls the early action. Drasin rallies. He backdrops the Assassin and moves in behind him and slaps on the full Nelson. The man from Louisiana submits. Winner-Ric Drasin (16:17) Semi-Final, one fall, 60 minutes Jimmy Garvin and Nelson Royal w/Great Bolo vs. Kevin Sullivan and Coloso Colosetti Bolo leads Garvin and Nelson to the ring. This could be a very tough tag team. Sullivan has taken the Argentinean as a tag team partner. There are four outstanding wrestlers in this one. The early moments are dominated by Colosetti. He uses the Latin style to confuse both Garvin and Royal. They both take to the floor to confer with Bolo. They return and fare no better. Sullivan tags in and works over Royal. The former Jr. Heavyweight Champion gets frustrated and goes to the fisticuffs. Royal tags in Garvin and the cocky young Garvin battles it out with Sullivan. Kevin looks very good. The action continues and its dead even. All four men end up in the ring. Garvin rolls up Colosetti and grabs the tights. Sullivan and Royal are battling in the corner. Referee Frenchy Bernard counts the fall. That was quite a match. Winners-Jimmy Garvin and Nelson Royal (22:03) Main Event, One fall, 60 minutes Red Bastein vs. Buddy Wolff Two veterans meet in the main event. Bastein has returned to Florida and the fans have gotten behind him. Wolff is a double tough opponent. Both men start slowly. They lock up and Wolff uses the hair to take Bastein down. Wolff works over Red. He whips him into the ropes and drops Bastein with a clothesline. Buddy goes for the cover, but Bastein kicks out at one. Things begin to swing towards the redhead from Texas. He traps Wolff in the sleeper, but Buddy gets to the ropes. Wolff goes to kicks and punches to grab the momentum. He goes for a body slam, but Bastein catches him in an inside cradle. Wolff kicks out at two. Wolff whips Red into the corner and runs in with an elbow. Bastein sidesteps and Buddy crashes into the turnbuckles. This is the edge Red needs. He works over Buddy and finishes him with a high crossbody. The Gainesville crowd goes home happy. Winner-Red Bastein (19:52)
