WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
WRTV ch. 6
Indianapolis, IN
Air-date 9/29/77
To be shown in Indiana, Ohio, Upstate New York, & Western Pennsylvania at various times

Show opens with a montage of Mascaras, Bruiser, Krupp, Wanz, Von Brauners in action as Bill Conti's "Gonna fly now" plays in the background.

Camera pans the crowd and settles on Bob Jenkins and Gene Okerlund at the announce podium.

Jenkins:  Welcome fans to WWA Championship Wrestling.  Today is the day that we crown our first WWA Television Champion as Luis Martinez takes on Killer Karl Krupp.  Normally, TV Title matches have a 15 minute time limit, but this week our program is solely focused on this encounter and the match will have at least a 30 minute time limit.  Of course we will have another installment of "Commissioner's Corner."  We also are joined today by several dignitaries.  Now, without further delay, let's go to Commissioner Les Thatcher.

Thatcher:  Fans, a lot of interesting things are going on here in the WWA.  First, I am proud to announce that we are now seen in and will be touring Western Pennsylvania, including Pittsburgh!  We have also signed television deals with several stations to film WWA Championship Wrestling while we are on tour.  These stations are WIVB ch.4 in Buffalo, WJKW ch.8 in Cleveland, and WIIC ch.11 in Pittsburgh.  We welcome are new partners and look forward to many years of quality wrestling action together.
Next, tomorrow's tournament for the WWA Tag Team Championship promises to be the best tag team tournament in the history of professional wrestling.  The Board of Directors and I must thank several AWA promoters for sending teams to participate in the tournament.  Teams have been sent from SWCW, NACW, CWA, GCW, AWA Midwest, & Big Time Wrestling.  We thank each of these organizations and their general managers for their cooperation.  Here are the first round match-ups for tomorrow's tournament:

SWCW & NACW Tag Team Champions Rip Hawk & Swede Hanson
                                            vs
                          Luis Martinez & El Sicodelico

Chief White Owl & Billy Red Cloud  vs  Dino Bravo & Gino Brito

Pak Song Nam & Kim Duk  vs  GCW Tag Team Champions Mr. Wrestling 1 & 2

Bobby Bold Eagle & Joe Lightfoot  vs  CWA Tag Team Champions Dennis Condrey & Phil Hickerson

Rocky Johnson & Don Muraco  vs  Kenji Shibuya & Kengo Kimura

The Von Brauners  vs  Tommy Rich & Ricky Fields

Chavo & Mando Guerrero  vs  Mil Mascaras & Dos Caras

Jim Brunzell & Greg Gagne  vs  Killer Karl Krupp & Baron Von Raschke

As you can see, this is the best tournament line-up in history and we are proud to present it to you fans in the Rochester, New York area.  Remember, the tournament will take place in two sessions.  An afternoon session starting at 1:00 and an evening session starting at 6:00.  Tickets are $5 for balcony seats, $10 for lower level, and $20 for ringside for each session.  However, if you purchase both sessions, the second session will be half price!  The first 1,000 fans will receive a free commemorative program and a discount coupon for a future WWA show.  Don't forget the WWA title match between Dick the Bruiser and Otto Wanz and the AWA World Title rematch between Nick Bockwinkel and Antonio Inoki.
The Board of Directors and I have also been concerned about the condition of Dick the Bruiser.  As many of you know, Bruiser has been wrestling with an injured arm.  In fact, the arm has become so injured that Bruiser has little, if any, use of the limb.  We have suggested that Bruiser forfeit his match tomorrow afternoon and seek immediate treatment.  The suggestion was met with a resounding "No" by Dick.  We hope that Bruiser will reconsider before permanent damage is done.
In closing, I'd like to wish both Luis Martinez and Killer Krupp the best of luck in today's Championship match.  Fans, don't forget that next Sunday, October 7th, we will crown our first WWA Jr. Hvt. Champion in Pittsburgh.  When we get back, Bob will welcome our dignitaries to the interview area.

Gene announces the tour dates for WWA wrestling:

Sept. 30 - Rochester, NY
Oct. 2 - Syracuse, NY
Oct. 4 - Buffalo, NY
Oct. 7 - Pittsburgh, PA
Oct. 9 - Erie, PA
Oct. 11 - Altoona, PA

Jenkins:  Fans, we're back.  At this time, I'd like to welcome our Board of Directors to the set.  Fabulos Moolah, Duke Keamuka, George Scott, Sandy Scott, and Danny Hodge, welcome.  Lady and gentlemen, I want to put you on the spot!  I want to know your predictions for the TV Title tournament final for today!  Ladies first...Moolah?

Moolah:  Well Darlin', I may not be Jimmy the Greek, but I do have an opinion on this match.  I think Mr. Martinez suffered an injury the other night in West Lafayette.  That will spell the difference.  The powerful German will use this to his advantage and walk away with the title.

Keamuka:  Although Martinez may have hurt his leg, his experience will overcome the pain and he will be the first TV Champion.

Sandy:  I agree.  Luis will be ready for anything the German can muster.  No doubt, Luis Martinez will reign supreme.

George:  I hate to disagree with my brother, but we are forgetting a major factor here.  That factor is Gerhardt Kaiser.  He will do anything in his power to be victorious.  I just hope he doesn't get involved physically in this encounter.

Hodge:  I believe that the better technical wrestler will come out on top in this match.  Without a doubt, Martinez is far and away the better technical wrestler.  Injury or not, a great technical wrestler will defeat a brawler 9 out of 10 times.  My money is on Martinez!

Jenkins:  There you have it fans.  A split decision with Martinez having a 3 to 2 advantage according to the Board of Directors. When we come back, we'll have a word with each participant in today's main event!

Jenkins:  Fans. we are back.  At this time, Commissioner Thatcher is in the dressing room of Luis Martinez.  Commissioner...

Thatcher:  I'm here with Luis Martinez.  Luis, how do you think today's match is going to go?

Martinez:  Well, Commissioner Thatcher, I am ready for the fight of my life.  I know how tough Krupp is and I know that this match is part of Kaiser's plan for total domination of the WWA.  I have prepared myself and feel confident that I am ready to win this match.

Thatcher:  What about the leg injury?

Martinez:  My leg is fine.  I have a little discomfort, but it will not affect the outcome of this battle.  If nothing else, I'll use it as motivation for today's match.  Rest assured, I am READY!

Thatcher:  Thank you, Luis and good luck!  Let's go to Gene Okerlund in the German's locker room.

Okerlund:  Ladies and gentlemen, I am joined by Killer Karl Krupp and his manager Gerhardt Kaiser.  Gentlemen, how do you see today's match going?

Kaiser:  Vee see dis match as zee first stepping stone to German dominance in zee double -U, double -U, A.  Krupp vill crush Martinez like the German army crushes awl udder nations!  He vill rip open Martinez vith zee claw and leave him for dead.

Okerlund:  What about your attack on Luis by the Von Brauners Thursday night?

Kaiser:  I know nutting about zees attack you speak of.  If Martinez is not fit to compete, he should forfeit to zee great German, Krupp.  Vee vill vin by awl means necessary und zat is awl I have to say!

Okerlund:  Fans, there you have it.  Kaiser claims not to know anything about the assault on Martinez by his Von Brauners?  Give me a break!  When we return, we will have the match for the WWA TV Title!

Jenkins:  We are ready to crown our first Television Champion.  1 fall with TV time remaining.  We have stand-by matches if we need them.  Let's go to the ring!

Tournament Final for the WWA Television Title
Killer Karl Krupp  vs  Luis Martinez

Luis has a slight limp as he enters the ring.  However, you wouldn't he was injured at all by watching the first five minutes.  Martinez dazzles Krupp with dropkicks, arm-drags, firemen carries and an armbar.  The German struggles to free himself.  Slowly, he rises to a standing position and knees Luis in the mid-section.  Krupp clubs Martinez with heavy shots across the back of the popular Mexican.  Luis crumbles to the mat.  Knee-drops follow and then a rear chinlock.  The referee asks Luis if he wants to submit.  Luis refuses.  Krupp brings Martinez to his feet and delivers a devastating vertical suplex.  Krupp covers Luis.  Only a one-count.  Krupp kicks his fallen prey.  Next, Krupp drops three consecutive elbows on the spine of Luis.  He rolls him over and makes the cover...1...2...Luis kicks out.  Krupp attempts to lift Martinez, but is surprised with a small package...1...2...Krupp kicks out.  Angered, Krupp drills Luis with several shots to the head and again picks him up for a suplex.  Luis slips out and rolls Krupp up...1....2....Krupp kicks out again.  Frustrated, Krupp applies a camel clutch as we go to commercial...

As we return to action, Krupp still has Martinez in the camel clutch.  The fans are cheering for Luis to make a comeback.  Martinez feeds off of the energy of the crowd and begins to rise.  Krupp can't believe that Luis is back to his feet.  Krupp applies a headlock, but is shot into the ropes.  Krupp rebounds off the ropes and is snared in a sleeperhold.  The fans go nuts and so does Kaiser!  He attempts to climb unto the ring apron, but is threatened with a disqualification by the referee.  Krupp is weakening fast and makes a last ditch effort to reach the ropes.  He falls forward and the momentum sends Luis through the ropes and to the studio floor.  Krupp distracts the ref as Kaiser puts the boots to Luis.  Martinez is then rolled back into the ring where Krupp makes the cover...1...Kick out by Martinez at the one count!  Luis is fired up as he peppers Krupp with lefts and rights.
He shoots Krupp into the ropes and leapfrogs Krupp.  As he comes down, Luis grabs at his knee and falls to the canvas.  He has re-injured his knee.  Krupp loads his glove and applies the German claw to the fallen Mexican.  Luis struggles, but his shoulders are pressed to the mat...1...2.....3!!!  Killer Karl Krupp has become the first WWA Television Champion!!!  Exhausted, Krupp collapses at the announce podium with Kaiser in tow.

WINNER AND NEW WWA TV CHAMPION:  KILLER KARL KRUPP @28:43

Jenkins:  Gerhardt Kaiser...

Kaiser:  Vee have done it!  Vee have accomplished step vun in our plan for German domination.  Vee cannot fail und vee cannot be defeated!

Jenkins:  Fans, our time is up!  See you next week and we hope to see you tomorrow in Rochester!

I would have thought a show with only one match would have been hard to watch. But the extras you had, mw2fan, hit a home run.

The Comissioner's corner you have with Thatcher announcing the tag team tourney on the 30th was a blockbuster. My mouth would have dropped at the announcements of the team lineup.

It really is the best tourney I have seen. The teams from other promotions are big time teams (Wrestling 1 & 2, Condrey/ Hickerson, Hawk and Hanson). I am rooting for Mascaras and Caras myself.

The Board commenting on the TV Title match and Thatcher's interview were nice touches.

The match itself was well written. The match going over commercial breaks gave it a big time feel.

This style is going to put WWA at the top. Keep it up. I'l keep reading.

Count me with Johnny as one who wouldn't have expected so much from a show with just one match. This was awesome. In fact I'd go so far as to say that it's one of the best shows that I've seen in 5+ years in internet fantasy wrestling. The commentary by Les, the Scotts, Moolah, Hodge etc. added legitimacy to the event and had it coming across more like a boxing telecast than professional wrestling.
I'm sure that the fans watching TBS all over the world will be marking out big for this one come next Saturday.

When GCW left Georgia to focus on WV, and OH I always felt that the core fan base had been abandoned. I can't help but think that the fans in Indy and the traditional WWA area will feel the same way about you expanding into PA. and upstate NY.
