NWA Championship Wrestling from Amarillo KFDA Studios
September 30, 1977
Steve Stack is joined in the studio this week by none other than his guest commentator this week’s broadcast,
Mr. Paul Boesch. Of course our viewers know Mr. Boesch as one of the legendary figures in the history of Texas wrestling and he will be here each week to provide expert analysis to the broadcast with Steve Stack. On today’s program, Playboy Gary Hart’s dangerous duo of Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito will face Doug Sommers and John Ringer. Ricky Thompson will attempt to earn $10,000 by taking Mick McManus’ 7-Minute Challenge. Also, “The King” Rufus R. Jones will be in action against former professional football player Bob Leuck. And in the main event, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Chief Wahoo McDaniel will be here and he will team with Dory Funk Jr. and Dick Murdoch against Bobby Davis trio of Robert Fuller and the Western States Tag Team Champions Gino Hernandez & Jerry Brisco in what should be a classic main event.
-1-
Playboy Gary Hart brings his destructive duo of
Mr. Fuji & Masa Saito to the ring and they waste no time and brutalizing
John Ringer & Doug Sommers. Saito immediately throws Sommers out to the floor and he and Fuji lay into John Ringer for the next several minutes with chops, kicks and suplexes. The seemingly unstoppable Masa Saito pins John Ringer minutes later and driving his neck into the mat with a belly-to-back suplex. (3:21)
Paul Boesch interview Playboy Gary Hart as well as Masa Saito and Mr. Fuji after the match and of course it’s the Playboy that does all the talking, with Fuji occasionally shouting a noise. Hart says that these two men are so dangerous that they could take any tag team belt they want or any singles belt they want, and then Hart says that this man “Mr. Torture” Masa Saito may just have a special message to send to someone who has championship gold in the NWA very soon. Hart then warns everyone in Amarillo that “the big man from Halstead Street in Chicago” is on his way and when he gets here it’s going to be real trouble for anyone in the way of H International!
-2- In the next 7-Minute-Challenge match,
Ricky Thompson tried to last the time limit with the notorious
Mick McManus from South London. He manages to use his speed to his advantage early on and dodge McManus’ attacks. Thompson even gets some strikes in and seems to have Mick dazed for a moment, but McManus quickly refocuses and guts Thompson with a hard kick. McManus then chops Ricky across the throat and knees him as he’s doubled over. McManus backs up and then hits a running knee-lift that sends Ricky Thompson for a loop. McManus drives both elbows into the back of Ricky’s neck and covers him for the win, well under the time limit to keep the money for another week. (4:42)
Steve Stack interviews Bobby Davis, Western States Heavyweight Champion & ½ of the Western States Tag Team Champions “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez, Robert Fuller, and NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion & ½ of the Western States Tag Team Champions Jerry Brisco for a few moments. Davis says the whole of West Texas saw Dick Murdoch out here begging for a rematch last week, but he’s not going one, not because Gino’s anything but a fighting champion, but because Murdoch’s too dumb to read the contracts he signs. Davis says Murdoch has now been made aware of the fact that his guaranteed rematch had to have been used WITHIN 30 days of when he lost the belt to Gino and we’re past that point now so he is no longer entitled to a rematch. Gino Hernandez pipes in and says Murdoch’s going to have EARN a championship match like everyone else has to. Robert Fuller pipes and says he sees tonight as an opportunity to prove himself not against the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Wahoo McDaniel, but also against the “paper champion” Dory Funk Jr. Fuller says he can’t wait to slap Dory around tonight and he declares…NO…GUARANTEES…that he will pin Dory Funk Jr. tonight in the six-man tag team match. Steve Stack says that seems mighty presumptuous of Robert Fuller, which elicits big laughs from Fuller, Brisco, Hernandez, and Davis as they walk to the back.
-3- The world-renowned
”King of Wrestling” Rufus R. Jones defeats
Bruiser Bob Leuck after a very physical match. Leuck tries to gain his reputation by getting a win over one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling today, but The King fights him back and holds his own with the former football pro. All the while, Jones gets the fans involved and has them clapping along and chanting his name throughout the match. Rufus lays into Leuck with those big soupbones and then finishes him off with a headbutt. The King of Wrestling covers him and hooks both legs for the win, making his Amarillo debut a successful one. (7:01)
Paul Boesch interviews Paul Orndorff and Bobby Eaton, who last week wrestled to a TV time limit draw with the very impressive team of the Super Destroyers. Boesch announces that Joe Blanchard has signed a rematch for next week’s program with an extended time limit, ten more minutes have been added to the time limit of the match and not only that, the winning team will face Western States Tag Team Champions Gino Hernandez & Jerry Brisco on October 26 in Lubbock. Orndorff and Eaton talk about how excited they are to have an opportunity to be in contention for a title match, but Paul says that they first have to beat the Super Destroyers, which they didn’t do last week. Bobby Eaton says the whole world knows they were minutes away from getting the win and next week they’ll have all the time they need and the people will be in their corner as always. Paul Orndorff tells the Super Destroyers to be ready because their in for a hell of a match next week here on Championship Wrestling from Amarillo.
-6- In an absolutely shocking main event,
Robert Fuller, Gino Hernandez, & Jerry Brisco (w/ Bobby Davis) defeated the “dream team” of
NWA World Heavyweight Champion Chief Wahoo McDaniel, Dory Funk Jr., & Dick Murdoch after what can only be considered a highly controversial final few moments. The match itself was highly competitive and went on forth nearly 20 minutes, until Dory Funk Jr. accidentally whipped Robert Fuller into the referee, sending the official sprawling to the floor and knocking him out cold. A wild brawl erupted between the six combatants, but only seconds later
Playboy Gary Hart led his monster
”Mr. Torture” Masa Saito down to the ring and he attacked NWA World Heavyweight Champion Wahoo McDaniel for some unknown reason and brutally assaulted the Chief at ringside while the referee was down! Meanwhile, Jerry Brisco and Gino Hernandez double-teamed Dick Murdoch, while Fuller and Funk brawled in the ring. On the floor, Masa Saito busted Wahoo wide open by driving his head into the ring post and then suplexed him on the concrete floor, before leaving with his manager Gary Hart. Robert Fuller landed a low-blow on Dory Funk Jr. in the ring and Gino Hernandez tossed him the International Title, which Robert used to bash Dory across the face with. Bobby Davis had pushed the referee back into the ring just as Robert Fuller covered the unconscious Dory Funk Jr. and the official, having not seen any of what had transpired, administered the three count to give the Bobby Davis Corporation a hugely tainted win. Robert Fuller, by hook or by crook, has made good on his promise to pin the NWA International Heavyweight Champion Dory Funk Jr. and shockingly Masa Saito has brutalized NWA World Heavyweight Champion Wahoo McDaniel out of nowhere!!
Paul Boesch and Steve Stack are absolutely shocked by what we have just seen and promise the fans that next week we will here from Gary Hart and hopefully find out why he decided to have his man, Saito, attack the World Champion in such a way, rather than just challenge him. Plus, you have believe Dory Funk Jr. will have some sort of response after being pinned by Robert Fuller, albeit after being whacked with his own championship belt. Plus, another 7-Minute Challenge from Mick McManus and the Super Destroyers will wrestle Paul Orndorff and Bobby Eaton in a match that will have an extended time limit. We’ll see you next week for more Championship Wrestling from Amarillo!
