WWA Champ. Wrestling in Syracuse 10/2/77
Oct 3rd, 2007, 12:53am

WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
Onandaga County War Memorial
Syracuse, NY
10/2/77
Bell Time 7:00

MATCH #1

El Sicodelico  vs  Robbie Ellis

Two of the top contenders for the WWA Jr. Hvt. Title meet in this one.  Both men wow the fans with a combination of scientific and high flying action.  In the end, Sicodelico wins with an abdominal stretch.

WINNER:  EL SICODELICO @9:33

MATCH #2

Dos Caras  vs  Joe Lightfoot

Another great Jr. Hvt. bout as the popular Indian takes on the equally popular Mexican.  This is a clash of styles as Lightfoot works the mat while Caras dazzles in the air.  Caras upends his foe with a high cross- bodyblock.

WINNER:  DOS CARAS @8:15

MATCH #3

Kller Karl Krupp w/Gerhardt Kaiser  vs  Carlos Rocha

Rocha is seeking revenge for the injury suffered by Luis Martinez at the hands of Krupp.  The newly crowned Television Champion withstands an early assault, but in the end wins with the German claw.

WINNER:  KILLER KARL KRUPP @7:17

MATCH #4

Antonio Inoki  vs  Kenji Shibuya w/Gen. George Cannon

Inoki starts out slow as he is still recovering from his marathon AWA Title match with Nick Bockwinkel on Sunday.  Shibuya is on the offensive for most of the match.  Nerve holds and judo chops are his main weapons.  Inoki finally begins to warm up and show signs of life.  The end comes when Inoki applies a double-arm chicken wing.

WINNER:  ANTONIO INOKI @11:46

INTERMISSION

MATCH #5

Mil Mascaras  vs  Geto Mongol

Geto attacks at the bell and stuns Mil.  He throws everything he has at the Mexican legend.  Unfortunately, that is not enough as Mil rallies to defeat the brute.  Mascaras hits three consecutive flying tackles to garner the win.

WINNER:  MIL MASCARAS @7:59

MATCH #6

WWA TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
The Von Brauners w/Gerhardt Kaiser  vs  Big Red & Big Daddy

Surprisingly close tag match as the giants battle the Germans tooth and nail.  The size of Red & Daddy really throws off the Champs.  Every move The Germans attempt seems to bounce right off the behemoths.  Eventually, The Von Brauners seize the advantage by keeping Red away from his corner.  He is blown up in a matter of minutes and is easy pickings for the champs.  Red is pinned after a double-clothesline.

WINNERS:  THE VON BRAUNERS @23:58

MATCH #7

WWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Otto Wanz  vs  Pak Song Nam w/Gen. George Cannon

Wanz defends his newly won Title for the first time against the Korean Giant.  The action goes back and forth until Nam gains the upper-hand with a judo cop to the Champ's throat.  Nam then savages Wanz with kicks, chops, and nerve holds.  Wanz weakens and seems to be on the verge of surrender when he suddenly gets a second wind.  He battles his way to his feet and breaks the Korean's nerve hold with repeated elbows to the mid-section.  Wanz then goes on a suplex spree.  Belly-to-back, belly-to-belly,side, and gut wrench suplexes leave the giant out on his feet.  Wanz picks up Nam and drills him with the Samoan drop to gain the pinfall.  As the referee counts three, Cannon enters the ring and begins pummeling Wanz with kicks and stomps.  The Champion rises to his feet and grabs Cannon by the lapels.  Just before he can nail the meaty manager, Shibuya charges the ring and Pearl Harbors Wanz.  Nam joins the fray and a three-on-one attack begins.  The evil trio heads for the hills as Los Hermanos rush to ringside.  They help Wanz up and head to the dressing room to the cheers of the crowd.

WINNER:  OTTO WANZ @34:44

This was a good show.  I enjoyed matches 3, 4 and 5 the most.  The main event didn't really do anything for me, although I don't think much of Otto Wanz or Pak Song, so that could be why.

Look big daddy, it's regular daddy.

Agent Sands: No. I'll shoot the cook. My car's parked out back anyway.

Tough losses for Shibuya & Song especially.

Von Brauner's look great here.

Hope Rocha can turn things around!

I think the right decision was made in having Krupp win.  Rocha is in his 50's at this point, and IIRC, he's only about a year or so away from retirement.  I think it's best to have him putting over the younger guys.

Great to see Sicodelico, Caras, and Mascaras with wins. Mascaras versus Mongol would have been fun to see.

Krupp is a tough customer. Rocha looked overmatched here.

Inoki is a threat to Cannon's Army.

Boy, the Von Brauners are really putting their titles against all comers.

Wanz is every bit the man to take care of Cannon and his group.

Great WWA action.
