AWA-CWA 9/22/77 from the campus of Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR 1) Derek Draper defeats Don Ross with a cobra hold. 2) “Professor” Bill Ash defeats Steve Lawler with the Arkansas Whiplash in a shocking match. Obviously without his brother, Steve can’t hang in the ring with quality competition. 3) The NACW North American Tag Team champions Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco steamroll the Medics in what was billed as a title match. The Medics hardly make a tag as each is isolated in turn and then it’s over after Rocco delivers a diving headbutt to Medic #1 and Breaks locks on his inverted hammerlock. 4) Sugar Bear Harris and the Scottish Giant brawl their way to a double disqualification in a body slam match. Neither man could budge the other for a slam and would not respond to the calls by the official for a clean break. 5) Tommy Rich and the Professional wrestle to a 20-minute TLD, which sees neither man gain a real advantage over the course of the match. 6) Jerry “the King” Lawler defeats Pat Roach with a big fist drop off the second rope. Roach seems to be in a rut after falling to the AWA World Champion at the Liberty Bowl, much to the frustration of Lord John Raven. 7) AWA Southern Tag Team champions Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson defeat “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones and George Welles to retain the belts. Jones and Welles seemed to work well, but the offense was predominantly coming from the champions. 8) Dutch Mantell defeats Randy Savage in a steel cage match after Savage missed a flying elbow drop off the top of the 15-foot high cage. The Miser had told Savage not to go for the leap, but the bloodlust in the wild man was too much to calm. AWA-CWA 9/24/77 from the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN 1) Butch Malone defeats Don Ross with a big vertical suplex 2) Derek Draper defeats Big Bill Howard with the cobra hold 3) The Scottish Giant defeats “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones and George Welles in a handicap match. 4) Bobby Jaggers and Tito Montez defeat the NACW North American Tag Team Champions Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco by disqualification after Lord John Raven hits Tito Montez in the back of the head with his cane in plane sight of the official. The BBC keeps their belts, but how much longer can they keep them? 5) Randy Savage defeats Dutch Mantell in a strap match after the Miser drills the Dutchman after loading up his mask. Savage then battered Mantell, finishing him off with a big double axe handle. 6) AWA Southern Tag Team Champions Denis Condrey and Phil Hickerson take down the thrown together team of Steve Regal and Paul DeMarco after Hickerson hits a brain buster on Regal. The new partners looked to be in synch early on in the evening, but the superior experience of Condrey and Hickerson spelled defeat for this team of necessity. 7) AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion Ronnie Garvin defeats Pat Roach to retain the Southern Title. After the match, Roach, Black Angus Campbell and their manager Lord John Raven argued all the way to the back. 8) In a Memphis Street Fight, Roddy Piper defeats Bill Dundee after the Superstar collapses in the ring from what can only be imagined to be massive blood loss. Piper specifically focused on the still raw wounds of his challenger and pounded away to keep the title. AWA-CWA 9/26/77 from the Louisville Gardens, Louisville, KY 1) George Welles defeats Don Ross with a big shoulder tackle. 2) Dutch Mantell defeats Butch Malone with a big bulldog, but after the match Randy Savage attacks the Dutchman, busting him open. 3) Bobby Jaggers and Tito Montez defeat the Medics despite the masked men pulling the old switch on the western duo. Medic #2 tried to lock on the claw hold on Montez after the switch but Tito was able to back up and climb the ropes, ending with an impressive arm drag that stunned the masked man before the head scissors and Jaggers putting him away with a hangman’s neck breaker. 4) Sugar Bear Harris and the Scottish Giant brawl their way to yet another indecisive result. This time, both men brought weapons to the ring and each was disqualified moments after the opening bell. This is not to say that there wasn’t almost 8 minutes of rule free brawling that took place before Louisville police had to separate the two by force. Each man was escorted out of the building by officers despite the pleas of their managers. 5) Steve Lawler, taking the place of his brother, falls to Kelly Kiniski after Canada’s next great athlete delivers a Canadian backbreaker to the man one ringside fan jeered as the “Clown Prince of Wrestling” 6) “Professor” Bill Ash defeats Derek Draper with the Arkansas Whiplash in a highly competitive contest. 7) In a big six-man tag team contest, Randy Savage and the AWA Southern Tag Team Champions Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson defeat the trio of Steve Regal and former Southern tag champions Tommy Rich and Ricky Fields by disqualification when Dutch Mantell, bandaged about the head, came out and assaulted Randy Savage busting him open in return. 8) Jerry “the King” Lawler steps into the ring to take on the Southern Heavyweight Champion Ron Garvin and these two men fight their way to a 45-minute time limit draw. Garvin and Lawler traded blows back and forth with momentum flowing freely each way. In the end, Lawler barely keeps from going down to defeat by holding out as Ronnie had him locked in the figure four. After the bell, Steve Lawler attacks the champ from behind long enough that Jerry is able to get back to his feet. The crowd boos as the Lawlers retreat to the locker room. AWA-CWA 9/28/77 from the Civic Auditorium in Nashville, TN 1) Big Bill Howard defeats Don Ross with a big power slam 2) “Professor” Bill Ash defeats Steve Lawler with the Arkansas Whiplash. Lawler looks like a bafoon out in the ring, but his power keeps him in the match until the end. 3) Dutch Mantell and Randy Savage brawl to a double count out as their fight crashes out of the ring and into the crowd. Security personnel have to separate the men before any fans are injured. 4) “Superstar” Bill Dundee defeats Tito Montez in a classic technical wrestling match that sees both men come close to victory, but Dundee is able to take the win with a victory roll. 5) Tommy Gilbert and the fabulous Jackie Fargo defeat the BBC tandem of Black Angus Campbell and Pat Roach, taking advantage of some obvious friction between the BBC. The match turned when, after Campbell steamrolled over both veterans, Roach made a blind tag and looked to finish off Fargo with a big knee drop. Jackie rolled out of the way and this allowed the veterans to regroup and eventually put Roach away after Tommy hit a big front suplex. 6) Kelly Kiniski defeats Derek Draper with a Canadian backbreaker in a highly competitive contest. 7) AWA Southern Tag Team Champions Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson defeat special challengers from California the Hollywood Blondes Michael Hayes and Jerry Brown. After the match, Condrey and Hickerson state that they are now gunning for the biggest prize in the sport and any team that wants to tangle with the best needs to come to the CWA, or they will be coming after them. 8) In a mammoth clash, literally, Sugar Bear Harris and the Scottish Giant brawl to yet another double disqualification as both men flagrantly disregard the official and batter each other with weapons. 9) In the main event, Jerry “the King” Lawler falls to Ronnie Garvin by disqualification after dropping the Southern Heavyweight Champion with a pile driver out of frustration. After the contest, Lawler and his brother set up the champion for a spike pile driver and are set to drive Garvin into the canvas when Derek Draper comes charging from the back with a steel chair in hand and drives off the King and his jester.
