AWA Montreal Forum 10/1/77 (Bockwinkel vs Rougeau)
Oct 5th, 2007, 3:47pm

AWA International Wrestling @ The Montreal Forum (Quebec, Canada)
Monday October 1st, 1977
.
.
All Matches are sanctioned by the governing body of the AWA
Your Referees are Andre Roy, Adrian Desbois & making his debut, Pierre Bertrand
.
.
The ring announcer asks the fans to welcome newly pointed official Pierre Bertrand as he gets ready to referee the opening bout.
.
.
Bout 1: In a return match from last month’s Forum Card, The NEW Television Champion, The Masked “Mr. Pro” defeated Bob Della Serra in 8:00. Della Serra was looking for revenge, after having lost to Pro last month and having to unmask as the masked “UFO”, but things didn’t pan out. Pro gets the duke with a backslide as Della Serra ducked down for a backdrop. Regardless of the win, the TV title was obviously not on the line.
.
.
Bout 2: In a battle to be CHIEF of the Indian tribe, Chief War Eagle defeated Billy Two Rivers after throwing a powdery substance into Two Rivers face and hitting a spinning tomahawk chop for the win in 7:45. War Eagle earned the rights to the name Chief, which he was already using, and will continue to run his Indian tribe. The Chief put the boots to Two Rivers after the contest to add insult to injury.
.
.
Bout 3: In a Special Challenge match, Eric the Red (w/Major Duke George) originally defeated Jacques Rougeau Jr. after a splash in 9:00. However, as manager Duke George stated on TV, he did not bring the dog whistle with him and would not call the beast off young Jacques. Eric continues to pound on Jacques Jr. after the bout. Jacques Rougeau Sr. enters the ring and hovers over his fallen son in order to protect him, but Eric the Red doesn’t care and splashes both Rougeau’s at once! At this point, referee Adrian Desbois REVERSES the decision and DISQUALIFIES Eric the Red. Jacques Rougeau Jr. is now declared the winner by disqualification!

Raymond Rougeau is finally out and a pair of dropkicks sends the Red out of the ring. The Major pulls a spare whistle from his shoe and calms the beast in order to get him to leave ringside. Major Duke seemed upset about the reversal of the decision but still was satisfied with the carnage his monster did. If Eric the Red was trying to prove a point to Raymond Rougeau, I think he succeeded.

Raymond helps his father and brother up as the fans chant “Rougeau, Rougeau”

.
.
Bout 4: In a non-title bout, The English team of “Cyanide” Sid Cooper & “Strongman” Alan Dennison (w/Gen. JR Foley) defeated International Tag Team Champions the Mercenaries (Frenchie Martin & Mad Dog Martel) in 18:00 when Foley tossed his General’s helmet to Cooper who KO’d Martel with it, while the referee was distracted with Dennison & Frenchie. As the referee removed Frenchie Martin from the ring, Alan Dennison slapped on the stump puller submission hold on the unconscious Mad Dog Martel. As referee Andre Roy pivoted back around to check on the bout, he checked on Martel and got no response and the referee called for the bell, noting that the Brits one, via knockout/submission.
.
.
INTERMISSION
.
.
Bout 5: Mad Dog Lefebvre defeated The Hangman (w/Major Duke George) in 9:45 after one hell of a fight. These two slugged it out for the better part of the contest and looked to be losing wind when they started hitting the bigger moves. Hangman tried a neckbreaker but Lefebvre escaped the hold and hit a powerslam for the win. The Major tried to stop the count but was too late. Lefebvre grabs hold of the Major afterwards and slugs him before throwing him out of the ring.
.
.
~~~ LOSER LEAVES TOWN ~~~
Before the next bout begins the combatants begin to come to ringside. Out first are “Dynamite” Jack Evans & the now FORMER TV Champion, “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe. Out next are their opponents. First out, is the masked Green Hornet, a guy who was handpicked by Sharpe & Evans to team with Dumont. Could the Hornet again be Serge Dumont under a mask, dressed up to fool the evil pair?
Evans begins talking with Sharpe and they too sense this Hornet is no Hornet at all but Serge Dumont under the mask again. Paranoia gets the best of Jack & Larry as the Hornet entered the ring, Sharpe & Evans wasted NO time attacking him. Sharpe & Evans pummel the masked “Hornet”. Jack Evans hits his gordbuster and lays out the masked man. Larry Sharpe then picks this believed to be imposter Hornet up and the duo delivers a SPIKE PILEDRIVER onto the Green one.
Sharpe & Evans then stand over Hornet laughing, feeling they have just destroyed Serge Dumont before the bell even sounded. Sharpre reaches down and pulled the mask off the fallen “Green Hornet” to reveal SERGE DUMO-----No, it’s GREG PETERSON. It’s long time wrestling personality Greg Peterson. Dumont has set up and outwitted Sharpe & Evans again! They took the bait and went for it!
Serge Dumont then comes to the ring with International Wrestling Chairman Johnny Rougeau. Johnny tells Evans & Sharpe since they had their chance to pick Dumont’s partner and they picked the Hornet, only to eliminate Serge’s partner before the bell, it is NOW Johnny Rougeau’s turn to pick Serge Dumont’s NEW partner. Johnny Rougeau calls out the man who defeated Larry Sharpe for the TV Title two days ago on television, and the man who was victorious earlier here tonight. Dumont’s new partner is The NEW TV Champion, Mr. Pro!
Sharope & Evans throw a tantrum, they can not believe Johnny Rougeau has named Mr. Pro as Serge’s new Tag team partner!
The same rules still apply. The loser of the fall must leave IW for one full year.
.
.
.
 Bout 6: Serge Dumont & TV Champion Mr. Pro vs. “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe & “Dynamite” Jack Evans in a “Loser Leaves Town Contest.
A tough battle for both teams. All four men are no slouches and Sharpe & Evans were expecting Serge to have a pushover partner and it didn’t work that way. This was the New Television Champion, Mr. Pro’s first real night to shine and he did well for himself getting many near falls on both Sharpe & Evans. Dumont finally gets his hands on Evans and pounds him into the mat.
Mr. Pro is tagged back in and this is where the tide shifts. Evans & Sharpe use cheap tactics to gain the advantage of the contest and work over Pro. At one point Evans hits his gordbuster and covers Pro but Serge Dumont breaks up the count at 2. This was a close call for the new TV Champion to say the least!
Evans tries for a second gordbuster, but Pro reverses and hits a textbook suplex on Evans instead! Both men are down! Sharpe leans in as much as he can for a tag. Evans crawls to his corner while Pro begins to crawl towards Dumont! Who will make it first?
EVANS makes the tag to Sharpe, and Sharpe charges at Pro and grabs him by his foot before he can make the tag to Dumont! But Pro kicks Sharpe off, sending him backwards into the corner. Sharpe charges at Pro again but Pro takes a leap and makes the TAG TO SERGE DUMONT!
Dumont is in with Sharpe and has his eyes dead set on the Pretty Boy! Serge whips Sharpe around and bounces his head off the turnbuckles 10 times. This brings Jack Evans back into the ring to save his partner from potential doom. Mr. Pro intercepts Evans interference and spill to the floor!
Dumont hits a clothesline that sends Sharpe through the ropes and onto the apron. Evans ends up ramming Mr. Pro headfirst into the ring post on the outside.
Serge tries to suplex Sharpe back into the ring but EVANS TRIPS DUMONT and Sharpe falls on top of Serge for the cover…Evans holds Dumont’s feet down…1----2----------Referee Andre Roy catches Evans holding Serge by the ankles and stops the count! Referee Roy makes Sharpe get up off of Dumont. The ref begins to argue with Jack Evans for his dirty tactics while Mr. Pro is just regaining his wits on the floor.
Dumont is back up, but with the referee’s back turned while arguing with Jack Evans, Larry Sharpe pulls out a pair of Brass Knuckles! Serge comes at Sharpe who takes a swing with the knux, but Dumont ducks! Serge goes for a BACK suplex on Sharpe but the Pretty Boy pops Serge in the head with the foreign object while in mid-air and Sharpe comes crashing down, landing on Dumont. Referee Roy turns around and notices the cover.
Referee Andre Roy counts 1----------2-----------------------3! Larry Sharpe has just stolen a victory over Serge Dumont! Dumont must leave International Wrestling for ONE FULL YEAR! Just as the three count ends Mr. Pro tries to stop the count but it too late. Time of the fall is 21:30.
Dumont has fallen victim to the dirty underhanded deeds of Evans & Sharpe. Serge Dumont has lost the fall and will now have to leave International Wrestling. Sharpe & Evans celebrate but leave ringside fast after Pro threatens them with a chair.
Mr. Pro and referee Roy check on the unconscious Dumont. When Serge awakens he finds out he has lost the fall. Dumont receives a standing ovation as he is helped to the back by Mr. Pro. Serge is visibly upset.  Sad
Bout 7: AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel vs. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Raymond Rougeau (2 out of 3 falls, 60-Minute Time Limit)
The First Fall was even for well over 20 minutes with great mat action. Bockwinkel scores the first fall of the match after hitting Raymond with his dreaded piledriver in 29:15.
Nick worked over Raymond’s knee some during fall two, possibly looking to soften Rougeau up for the Figure Four leglock. However, Raymond Rougeau was able to make a big comeback in the second fall scoring an unbelievable pin over the World Champion with a dropkick from the tope rope in 42:00. Evening the falls at one a piece.
Fall 3: Raymond starts the third fall off fast with a sunset flip on the still stunned Bockwinkel, but only gets a two count. This fall was close enough to scare the World Champion, who tries to roll out of the ring and take a break but Raymond follows him out, slams him into the apron and rolls Bockwinkel back in.
The champ pleads off to Raymond but Rougeau won’t listen. Ray goes to work on Bockwinkel and gets in a backdrop for another 2 count. Rougeau whips Nick into the corner but charges into the knee of the World Champion.
Nick takes control for the first time in fall #3. Bockwinkel gets two near falls with a hammerlock cradle combo and a backdrop into a bridge, which Raymond bridges out of and back to his feet to counter with a backslide for a two of his own.
Nick has had enough and goes back to work on Ray’s knee, and then applies his patented Figure Four leglock on Rougeau! Ray is in pain but fights through it, getting to the ropes. At first it appears Nick refuses to release the hold but ends up breaking after a warning from referee Adrian Desbois.
Rougeau gets up, visibly limping. Bockwinkel kicks at Rougeau’s leg but Raymond gets a burst of energy and begins fighting back. Both men, pouring sweat, trade blows with Rougeau getting the better! What heart from the Quebec Heavyweight Champion! Rougeau knows he is ONE FALL away from being the NEW AWA World Heavyweight Champion. Raymond can taste the gold!
Bockwinkel kicks at Rougeau’s leg again and this time Ray falls to the mat. Nick tries to reapply the Figure Four but Rougeau kicks Bockwinkel off and into the referee! Bockwinkel’s momentum sends him smashing referee Desbois into the corner!
Rougeau is up and applies the SLEEPER HOLD to the World Champion! Nick is in trouble now. Rougeau has that patented sleeper hold on that he learned from Leo Burke! Bockwinkel is going out like a light!
At this point, the Major Duke George is out and blowing the dog whistle, waving Eric the Red from the back.
With the referee down, and Rougeau’s back to the aisle, Eric the Red is now in the ring Eric cracks Raymond with the prehistoric sized animal bone from behind, causing Raymond to release the sleeper hold on Bock & knocking the Rougeau out cold. Duke instructs Eric to place Bockwinkel on top and leave the ring.
Referee Desbois is very groggy but begins to crawl across the ring to make the counts,
he crawls with his right hand, ONE,
his left hand, TWO,
and his right hand again, THREE!
No, No, No, No, No! Nick Bockwinkel has stolen a win over Rougeau! Bockwinkel doesn’t even know what’s happened but Duke George & Eric the Red are in the ring, raising the World Champions hands. As Bockwinkel collects his thoughts he shoves off The Major & Eric the Red, Bockwinkel didn’t ask for their help, but he will take the win.
The AWA World Champion raises his hand in victory when referee Desbois comes over and THROWS DOWN the hands of Bockwinkel! The Major argues he heard the referee count three, Desbois explains he WAS NOT counting, he was crawling! Referee Desbois saw Eric the Red interfere and has DISQUALIFIED Nick Bockwinkel at 53:00 for outside interference!
Now Nick is upset! Bockwinkel can’t believe he was cost the match. It is announced however, that even though Raymond Rougeau won the match, the World Title can not change hands on a DQ decision. Therefore, still AWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Bockwinkel! Nick is lucky to have left with the belt and knows it. Desbois hands Bockwinkel the belt and he raises it even though he lost the contest. It is obvious Bockwinkel was not in cahoots with the Major and his army.
The Major is irate and sends Eric the Red back after the fallen Raymond Rougeau. The Major holds out the injured leg of Rougeau while Eric the Red splashes it! Bockwinkel watches on, seemingly not sure of what to do. Finally, Bock throws his hand up at the fiasco and walks away with the belt over his shoulder, leaving Duke & Eric to pound on Raymond.
Eric sets up for another splash on Raymond’s leg, hoping to possibly break it this time, but it is broken up by Jacques Jr. & Mad Dog Lefebvre!
The Major blows the dog whistle and gets Eric the Red out of the ring. Duke George calls this a lesson and a wakeup call. The Major yells that Eric the Red will be the next Quebec Heavyweight Champion!
Jacques & Lefebvre check on Raymond who his clutching his left knee. Raymond Rougeau is announced as winner of the bout but did not win the World Title. Bockwinkel escapes still champion, by the skin of his teeth!
Very good card.  My favorite was the loser leaves.  The Rougeaus look good, especially Ray.  Eric the Red is causing quite a commotion.
Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience!
Fantastic card.
Great wins by War Eagle and Pro.
Tough decision going against Dumont. Wonder where this will leave Mr. Pro at?
Eric the Red is really causing grief for The Rougeaus.
Where does the main event result mean for the Quebec title? Can't wait for more International action.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
As for the Quebec title, it wasn't on the line in the AWA World Title match but if it were Raymond would have kept it since he won the contest  Wink Cheesy
- Mr. Pro seems to have Della Serra's number.
- congrats to Dennison and Cooper on a huge win. I would have never thought that they could have taken the Mercenaries.
- nice win for the Mad Dog.
- I'm looking forward to more of the Battle of the Indians.
- Raymond Rougeau continues to impress. He appears ready to knock the big Norseman off.
- Rougeau should receive another title shot at Bock. Perhaps this one should take place in a cage to keep anyone from interfering.
- really surprised to see Serge Dumont lose. He seemed to be on the verge of making a big name for himself.
