WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL TV 10/6/77
Oct 6th, 2007, 5:48pm

WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL
SUPERSTRELLAS DE LA LUCHE LIBRE
WAPA-TV CHANNEL 4
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
TAPED: THURSDAY MORNING, OCT. 4, 1977
BROADCAST: OCT. 6, 1977
COMMENTATOR: RICK ST. JAMES
REFEREE: EL ARTACHE

All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance.

Theme music is played and the WWC logo is super imposed over arena match action.

The show begins with film of Dean Ho being loaded into an ambulance after the matches in Bayamon at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. Carlos Colon and Victor Rivera are helping emergency personnel.

Brian St. James solemnly welcomes the fans to the greatest wrestling from the greatest paradise…Puerto Rico.

St. James tells both the studio audience and the television audience that The Manson Mafia has put Dean Ho under with a shoulder injury. Ho will be out of action for a while. We will hear from Rivera, who is in action today, and Colon about this sad development
.

Gil Hayes caused El Rayo and Roberto Soto to come out on the losing end of matches this past week in WWC. Rayo and Soto will be in studio and St. James says he will interview the duo.

Tosh Togo and Super Medico are still raging over what they view as interference from Ben Justice and Pepper Gomez. Togo will be here in singles action to give us his review of the recent events.

Victor Jovica had a very successful week against Hercules Ayala, the Puerto Rican champion. Ayala will be here to put things in perspective.

The main event has an angry Earl Maynard and Dory Dixon going against The Infernos, with J.C. Dykes. Maynard is here at the Channel 4 studios on time today and there will be no ambushes.

St. James tells everybody not to go anywhere. The WWC action starts after these messages.

The show returns to film of matches from Areciba featuring Roberto Soto and El Rayo. A masked Gil Hayes hits Rayo with a loaded head butt, getting a win for Rock Riddle. On the same card, Soto gets a loaded glove shot from Hayes, causing him to lose to El Diablo Mascaras.

St. James says that Roberto Soto and El Rayo were only trying to help out Hercules Ayala out a few weeks ago. Gil Hayes and Rock Riddle have now made it personal for the Puerto Rican sensations.

ROBERTO SOTO/ EL SAYO vs. BOB GRIFFIN/ PEDRO EL GRANDE

Soto and Rayo are able to isolate Grande in their corner, where they work over the ribs of Grande. Griffin does not even make it into the match. A top rope dropkick by Soto and a vertical suplex by El Rayo get the pin @ 3:39.

WINNER: SOTO/ EL RAYO

St. James meets Soto and El Rayo at ringside.

Soto says he knew that Mascaras would be double tough, but he has to hand something to him. Mascaras faced him straight up, unlike that coward Hayes. El Rayo says that if Hayes and Riddle were trying to get into their heads, they succeeded. Now, he and Soto will put some feet where the sun doesn’t shine.

St. James says these two great teams will have a meeting of the minds somewhere down the road. Tosh Togo will talk about seeking some Justice when we return.

More film from Bayamon shows a “Battle of the Bullies” match between Tosh Togo/ Super Medico and The Infernos. Ben Justice and Pepper Gomez come to ringside, distracting Togo and Medico and leading to an Inferno victory.

According to St. James, Tosh Togo was livid before the matches today. He wonders if the former Oddjob has calmed down for this match.

TOSH TOGO vs. ZOLTAN THE GREAT

Togo unleashes a barrage of chops and nerve holds on an unsuspecting Zoltan. Togo makes short work of the painted wrestler.  An abdominal claw brings the bell and a win for the Japanese star @ 3:22.

WINNER: TOSH TOGO

St. James warily meets Togo at ringside.

Togo slams the ring apron and demands that Justice and Gomez meet him and Medico here next week. He says that blood will flow and the Rising Sun will burn.

St. James says that Togo and his tone are very ominous. He is sure that Gomez and Justice will accept the challenge but is not sure they ought to. The Puerto Rican champion, Hercules Ayala, will join the program next.

Two film clips featuring Victor Jovica are shown. He is pinning Hercules Ayala in a tag match in Bayamon. Then, he has a count out victory over Ayala in Areciba.

Even Roberto Clemente went through slumps, notes St. James. Hercules Ayala will wrestle next and St. James will ask him about what adjustments he plans to make as he continues to face Jovica.

HERCULES AYALA vs. CICLON SUDAMERICANO

In a refreshing scientific contest, Ciclon has Ayala off his feet with a combination of high flying moves and Mat strategy. The strength of Ayala is too much for Sudamericano, though. Ayala wins with a hangman’s backbreaker @ 4:59.

WINNER: HERCULES AYALA

St. James meets Jovica at ringside.

Ayala says he appreciates St. James’ reference to the great baseball player Clemente. He says that J.C. Dykes seems to have taken Jovica under his wing. Well, Ayala is ready to break that wing, if he has to.

He counted Jovica among his closest friends. He had trouble envisioning Jovica as a threat to this title. But, as he was near out at ringside in that count out match, he made up his mind he would fight tooth and nail against Jovica before the Puerto Rican Title goes around his waist.

St. James says Carlos Colon will be here, on tape, with an update on Dean Ho when WWC TV returns.

Carlos Colon is shown outside the Channel 4 studios with St. James. He says that the doctors diagnosed that the shoulder injury Ho received at the hand of High Chief Afi’s board is serious.

Ho has to stop all ring activities until further notice. Colon says that hit was meant to send him a message. Colon looks hard at the camera and says, “Message received!”

St. James says that Victor Rivera will step in and assume Ho’s responsibilities in teaming with Colon. Rivera has asked for some interview time after his match.

VICTOR RIVERA vs. ALI BABA

Rivera wins this match when Baba falls through the ropes on a missed shoulder tackle. Rivera goes out to the floor and body slams Baba. Rivera hits a cannonball drop for the win @ 3:44.

WINNER: VICTOR RIVERA

Rivera is ambushed by Mark Manson in a déjà vu moment very much like the attack on Dominic DeNucci several weeks ago. Manson slams Rivera into the turnbuckle and throws him to the studio floor.

Manson goes for a board from under the ring. Rivers recovers and grabs the bell hammer from beside St. James. Manson is hit by Rivera and he drops the board. Rivera chases Manson to the back. Rivera says this is just stepping up in intensity.

St. James says that the action in the ring will step up, too, with the main event coming next.

A video tape of last week’s TV main event is shown. Earl Maynard causes a lot of problems for The Infernos.

St. James says that Earl Maynard and Dory Dixon got here early today and he had the police watch their cars all night. The Infernos will have to come by victory the old fashioned way.

THE INFERNOS w/ J.C. DYKES vs. EARL MAYNARD/ DORY DIXON

This match is all action from the word go. Dixon is trapped in The Infernos’ corner early. Dykes gets in some slaps. They fire up Dixon and, using lefts and rights, he makes his way to tag in Maynard. Maynard gets Inferno II in a belly-to-belly suplex and goes to work on his back.

Both teams enjoy several advantages. The end of the match comes as both teams are fighting on the floor. Inferno I taps his boot. He kicks Dixon in the head. As Artache counts both teams out @ 7:00, J.C. Dykes takes off his belt he gives it to Inferno I. He whips Dixon with it. Maynard comes in with a chair, as The Infernos go to the back.

DOUBLE COUNT OUT: INFERNOS-MAYNARD/ DIXON

The theme music start to play as St. James tells both crowds to visit the shut-ins and get to church this week. WWC will be here when you get back.

Real strong show.  Manson Mafia must be stopped.  I like Rivera and hope to see him continue to do well.  Colon looks good as well.  Hope Ayala gets out of his slump soon.

The Soto Bros. continue to impress if they can somehow get past Riddle and Hays I'd like to see them get a World Tag-Team title shot.

Colon seems like a man possessed since returning to the Islands. He's going to keep that killer instinct if he's going to run the Manson Mafia out of the WWC. He would do well to enlist the aid of Victor Rivera.

Infernos v/s Dixon and Maynard was a good one. I still wonder if Mr. Universe's massive ego won't spell trouble for this team.

The only thing wrong with the WWC is it's affiliation with the NWA.
