WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
WIVB ch.4 Studio
Buffalo, NY
Air-date 10/6/77
Taped live and shown in IN.,Southern Ohio, W. PA, & Upstate NY at various times.

Montage opens show with highlights of Wanz, Inoki, Bruiser, & The Von Brauners in action with Bill Conti's "Gonna fly now" playing in the background.

Camera pans the crowd and settles on Bob Jenkins and Gene Okerlund standing at the announce podium.

Jenkins:  Welcome fans to another exciting edition of WWA Championship Wrestling.  This past week has seen many significant changes in the WWA.  As you'll remember, last week Killer Karl Krupp won the Television Title Tournament right here on TV.  This week, we will see his first Title defense.  We also have new WWA Tag Team Champions in Kurt & Karl Von Brauner.  They won a fantastic tournament last Sunday in Rochester, outlasting 15 other World class teams from throughout the AWA.  Also in Rochester, Otto Wanz captured the WWA Heavyweight Championship from Dick the Bruiser.  We will have much more on these events later in the show.  Gene, what else do we have scheduled for today's show?

Okerlund:  Well, Bob, today is debut day on Championship Wrestling.  Union Jack, Wilhelm Ruska, and Mil Mascaras are all making their TV debuts today.  As you mentioned, Killer Karl Krupp will be making his first title defense against Burrhead Jones as well.  We will also here from AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel, George Cannon, Mil Mascaras, and Gerhardt Kaiser.  And don't forget that Les Thatcher will be here for another installment of Commissioner's Corner.  With that said, let's go to the ring for our first match.

MATCH #1

Union Jack  vs  Carlos Rocha

Great opening contest as these two both wrestle scientifically.  In a mild upset, Union Jack gets the pin on Rocha following a cradle suplex he has dubbed the "London Bridge."

Jenkins:  Fans, we'll be right back with Commissioner's Corner.

Okerlund runs through where WWA can be seen live in the near future:

10/7  Pittsburgh, PA
10/9  Erie, PA
10/11 Altoona, PA
10/14 Dayton, OH
10/16 Columbus, OH
10/18 Cincinnati, OH

Jenkins:  Fans, we're back.  Let's go to Commissioner Les Thatcher...

Thatcher:  Thanks, Bob.  Fans, a lot is going on in the WWA.  We have three new champions and will determine a Jr. Hwt. Champion tomorrow in Pittsburgh.  I'd like to congratulate Krupp, the Von Brauners, and Wanz for their huge wins this past week.  We look forward to their title defenses in the coming weeks.
Now, on the injury front, both Dick the Bruiser and Luis Martinez have been sidelined with injuries.  During the TV tournament, Luis sprained his knee and was forced to sit out and rest his injury.  He has healed sufficiently and will be back in action this week.  After several matches with an arm that was severely injured, Bruiser finally fell to Otto Wanz on Sunday and traveled to Georgia and injured the arm further.  Dick went to a doctor and was diagnosed with a slight tricep tear. Surgery was not recommended.  He will miss between two and six weeks depending on how quickly he heals.  We wish Bruiser a quick and complete recovery.
Tomorrow afternoon, we have a big show scheduled in Pittsburgh.  First, we will crown our first WWA Jr. hwt. Champion.  Eight men will compete in this one.  Here are the first round matches:
Dos Caras vs Kengo Kimura
Johnny Kwango vs Joe Lightfoot
Mike Jackson vs Black Cat
El Sicodelico vs Robbie Ellis
Also, WWA Hwt. Champion Otto Wanz will defend against Killer Karl Krupp
WWA Tag  Team Champions the Von Brauners defend against Mr. Wrestling 1 & 2 in a re-match of the tournament final.
In a special attraction, Abdullah the Butcher will team with Pak Song to take on Mil Mascaras and Luis Martinez.
And the big one.  Part three of the classic series as AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel will face Antonio Inoki in a no DQ, no time limit, no count out  Death Match.  Mr. Bockwinkel has asked for and has been granted one stipulation.  This match will end after one fall.  Usually in a death match, falls don't count, but the Champion would not participate unless it was one fall.  We are truly looking forward to this huge card of wrestling.
Finally, we are pleased to announce that our friends in Big Time Wrestling will take over the Northern part of Ohio, including Cleveland.  We wish them luck and look forward to working with them in the near future.  We will help them in any way we can.
As you can see, great things are happening in the WWA and when we return, we will see the debut of Wilhelm Ruska.

Jenkins:  Fans, our next match is in the ring.

MATCH #2

Wilhelm Ruska  vs  Tony Hernandez

Ruska is impressive in his debut as he destroys Hernandez.  Gen. Greorge Cannon  walks out halfway through the match and observes.  Ruska wins with an arm-lock submission.

Okerlund:  Ladies and gentlemen, we are joined by Cryb...ahem!...General George Cannon.  Gen. Cannon, you do not seem to be having any luck capturing titles here in the WWA.  You have also been missing at several key events that your Army has been involved with.  What's the deal?

Cannon:  The deal, my good man, is that the greatest wrestling mind in all the World is in the process of building the Army.  I have recently traveled extensively to scout potential members of my elite group.  I am driven to dominate not only the WWA, but the entire AWA.  My men have recently had a few stumbling blocks, but that is a natural process in growth.  Rest assured, my Army will be stronger than ever and we will control wrestling in the very near future.

Okerlund:  Why were you watching the match with Ruska?

Cannon:  That is for me to know and you and the rest of the World to worry about, little man.

Okerlund:  Little man?  Puh-lease!  Fans, we'll be back.

Jenkins:  Fans we are back and our next match is in the ring...

MATCH #3

Mil Mascaras  vs  Johnny DeFasio

Mascaras looks awesome as he demoralizes DeFasio.  Mil finishes him off with a flying cross-body block.

Jenkins:  Mil....This is your first chance to speak to the WWA fans.  What are your immediate goals here?

Mascaras:  (Through an interpreter) Mr. Jenkins, it is an honor to be here.  I am looking forward to wrestling here in the WWA.  In my first month here, I have enjoyed facing many of the great names here as well as teaming with my brothers.  You ask about my goals?  Well, the WWA Heavyweight Championship is certainly on of them.  Otto Wanz is a great international star and I feel that a match-up with him would be very competitive.  I also have my sights set on the AWA World Heavyweight Championship.  It doesn't matter if the Champion is Nick Bockwinkel or Antonio Inoki.  I look forward to testing my skills against them.  Other than that, I just want to have great matches for these wonderful fans here in the WWA.

Jenkins:  Thanks, Mil.  Speaking of Nick Bockwinkel, we have comments from our AWA World Champion.

A VTR is shown of Bockwinkel.  He is decked out in a royal blue blazer and a turtle-neck sweater.  He is standing in front of the Maple Leaf Wrestling banner.

Bockwinkel:  Hello, fans.  As you know, I am your AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel.  I am here to comment on my recent matches with Antonio Inoki.  I have spent nearly two and a half hours in the ring with this man recently.  Although he is a capable wrestler, he certainly is not in my league.  Had I wanted to, I could have pinned him easily within ten minutes.  I played with him so my adoring fans would have a chance to witness greatness first-hand.  I know that the unwashed masses dream of one day being as great as i am, but let's be serious.  No one has the class that I possess.  No one is as skilled.  And no one is as respected by the movers and shakers of this great Nation as I.  Therefore, I am going to have to disappoint my legions of fans by making short work of Inoki in Pittsburgh.  I am angry that this match is under death match rules because Inoki could use any means of illegal tactics against me.  But, I will prevent him from doing so and will send him back to Japan with his tail tucked between his legs.  Then, I can vacation in the South of France and not bother with such menial tasks.  It has been your pleasure.

Jenkins:  Fans, we'll be back.

MATCH #4

WWA Television Title Match
Killer Karl Krupp w/Gerhardt Kaiser  vs  Burrhead Jones

Krupp looks unstoppable as he pummels Jones.  Krupp wins with the German claw.

Okerlund:  Fans, we are here with Gerhardt Kaiser and his stable of the Von Brauners and Killer Karl Krupp.  Mr. Kaiser, your men have had a very successful week, winning the TV and Tag Team Titles.  What are your thoughts?

Kaiser:  Today zee Double-U, Double-U, A, tomorrow zee Vorld!  Ha, ha, ha,ha.  My German varriors are zee best in zee Vorld und vee have proven it dis veek.  Vee see only total domination of zee vrestling vorld.  No vun is capable of detroaning us.  Vee vill vin awl titles in zee Double-U, Double-U, A und zen vee vin vin awl zee titles in zee A, Double-U, A.  Vee cannot be stopped.  Und zat is awl I have to say.

The little things make WWA such a jewel in NWA Classics.

The Commissioner's Corner, with Les Thatcher, is a good example. It gives the show a pro football pre-game feel. I like that.

The promos by Bockwinkel and Kaiser were gems. You captured the essence of Bock by all accounts that I have read. I can just picture Kaiser and his arrogance. The last line should give Baron Von Rasche a chance to sue, though. Grin

I love the use of Ruska. Do you have some other info on him?

Burrhead just overmatched against Krupp. So sad. cry

Mascaras against Inoki or Wanz would be a worth the price of admission classic. Hope to see those soon.

Keep up the fantastic work with WWA.
