'The Triumph & Tragedy Of WCCW'  Dvd

from mike johnson at pwinsider.com

While traveling yesterday, I had the chance to check out an advance copy of documentary for WWE's Triumph and Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling, which will be released on 12/11. The list of those who provide insight into Texas' most famous family, The Von Erichs and WCCW are Kevin Von Erich, Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin, Buddy Roberts, Gary Hart, Bill Mercer, Bill Irwin, Dory Funk Jr., Triple H, Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, Dusty Rhodes, Verne Gagne, Ric Flair, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Gerald Brisco, and Skandar Akbar. The documentary is among one of the better ones put together by WWE. There were a few small things I would have preferred an opposing viewpoint on, particularly statements made by Kevin about the Fritz Von Erich heart attack angle (he acted as if the fans assumed it was a heart attack, not something the company pulled as an angle, even saying that doing a heart attack angle would be "cheesy") That said, there is a wealth of great insight into that time period and I think anyone who loved that era will enjoy this for the most part. Names like Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, Bruiser Brody and more are all covered. Gary Hart, Bill Mercer, Michael Hayes and Triple H all provide excellent insight and it's a very well produced piece. Bill Irwin's first person account of David Von Erich's death in Japan is chilling. One of the best statements in the entire piece was made by Kevin, who noted that fans will stay with you for the first death and feel for you but as more pile up, they are going to question what is wrong and give up. Very prophetic, given this past year in wrestling. For all of the talk of WWE wanting to use their Films division to make money and expand their business, I am baffled as to why they don't take some of these documentaries and release them via the film festival and arthouse circles. You can pre-order the DVD from our friends at www.highspots.com. I'll be writing a lot more about the documentary next week.

Does anyone know about the documentary about Chris Adams the producer for WCCW (Mickey -his last name escapes me) is making.  I've seen the trailer on youtube.com .

Pretty simple solution..if this title or ANY movie is sold out at your local Wal-Mart, you can order it on their website and then have it shipped (for free) to your local Wal-Mart or any Wal-Mart you choose. They shoot you an e-mail when it arrives at the store.

1 thing that kinda tugged at my heart was Gary Hart saying couldn't look at picture of Gino That he had pictures of all the others he'd managed but he couldn't have 1 of Gino Hernandez cause it just upset him so much that got to me

I watched the documentary today. It was pretty good, but, IMO, this wasn't as good as the other World Class documentary. That said, it's a good compliment to the other one. But if you had to choose, I'd get the other one for the documentary, this one for the various matches on it.

I watched the documentary disc yesterday, and I must say, I developed a new respect for Gary Hart. I was fascinated by his remarks.

Martinlee, I was talking about the Heroes of World Class DVD that came out. Documentary is awesome. Much better than the WWE version, which is good, in it's own right, IMO.

I really enjoyed it. I think Gary Hart really carried the documentary. Michael Hayes and Kevin Von Erich did a good job too. I didn't get why there was so much HHH though ? What does he have to do with World Class ? His little snide comment about hardcore wrestling during the Abby Brody match was uncalled for. At least HBK was a fan of the product growing up in Texas.

Like someone else mentioned the World Class documentary by Big Vision is even better. That's one of my favorite wrestling DVDs of all time.

In my opinion Heroes of Wrestling was way better. But this was worth a few watches just for a the matches.

Me too!  It's a shame it's already out of print.  Why would they have stopped printing it so soon?
