WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL SUPERSTRELLAS DE LA LUCHE LIBRE WAPA-TV CHANNEL 4 SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO TAPED: THURSDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 11, 1977 BROADCAST: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1977 COMMENTATOR: RICK ST. JAMES REFEREE: RICKY BENITEZ All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance. Theme music is played and the WWC logo is super imposed over arena match action. A film clip shows the attack by Mark Manson on Victor Rivera from last week’s TV show. A second clip shows Carlos Colon using chairs to punish the Samoan Kings in a title defense in Isabella. Rick St. James welcomes both audiences to the show. He mentions that the first film clips today show the mayhem that has come to represent the feud between The Manson Mafia and Carlos Colon, Victor Rivera, and Dean Ho. Carlos Colon will wrestle in the studio today in a singles match. St. James says he will interview Colon and the fans will see a taped message from Dean Ho, who is recovering at home. J.C. Dykes has become the advisor to Victor Jovica and has a new charge, who calls himself The Guardian. Those two tag today and St. James will talk to Dykes. Ciclon Sudamericano has wrestled some very competitive matches as of late. St. James says that Ciclon will be in a spotlight singles match that should wow the crowd. Dory Dixon is a great veteran junior heavyweight, who will wrestle today. With Tatsumi Fujinami defeating Jerry Brisco in Madison Square Garden this past Monday night, Dixon could be in line for a title shot soon. The main event will have the team of Pepper Gomez and Mr. Justice battling Tosh Togo and Super Medico. These teams have been out to hurt each other in the WWC wars, as of late. This match should be no exception, according to St. James. St. James says these matches today will feature the greatest wrestlers from the greatest paradise… Puerto Rico. He urges the fans to stay tuned. . . COMMERCIALS . . Film shows a masked man getting involved in the match between Dory Dixon and Inferno I in Isabella. The interference helps Inferno I get a controversial win. The show comes back to the studio, where St. James remarks that J. C. Dykes is building up his stable with Victor Jovica and this new competitor, The Guardian. THE GUARDIAN/ VICTOR JOVICA w/ J.C. DYKES vs. ERICH FROELICH/ BOB GRIFFIN The Guardian and Jovica work well together, a testament to their obvious experience level. The Guardian scores the pin after he executes a pile driver on Froelich @ 3:39. WINNER: GUARDIAN/ JOVICA w/ DYKES The Infernos join the winning team and St. James at ringside. Dykes, in full evangelical tone, welcomes The Guardian and Jovica to their congregation by transfer of letter from a territory of like faith. He calls for an affirmation from The Infernos. Dykes asks Jovica and The Guardian if they want to give a word of testimony. The Guardian that he has been in promotions where Dykes has been before. Dykes called him and he has come to WWC as a minister of protection. No one will touch Dykes while he has a breath in him. Jovica says that Dykes has some of the old time wrestling knowledge that he can use. Dykes will be a fundamental part of his glorious quest to exorcise the Puerto Rican from Hercules Ayala. St. James says he hopes that Dykes and his deacon board will do like that old hymn and just fly away. The up-and-coming Ciclon Sudamericano is next. . . COMMERCIAL . . The show returns to a film montage of Ciclon Sudamericano. It also features comments from Mr. Justice about the potential of Ciclon in WWC. St. James says this next match is one where Ciclon would be considered a favorite. It will be interesting to see how he fares here. CICLON SUDAMERICANO vs. ALI BABA Despite a cheap shot by Baba after the ring introductions, Ciclon dominates this match. He wins it with a top rope bulldog @ 4:02. WINNER: CICLON SUDAMERICANO St. James is about to interview Sudamericano, when The Invaders hit the ring. They beat Ciclon up, hitting a double Russian leg sweep. Invader I hits Sudamericano with a heart punch. The crowd favorite goes down in a heap. St. James is yelling for The Invaders to not do this during the entire beat down. When the masked team does go to ringside for St. James’ interview, Invader I says they are tired of getting shafted. No TV for them last week or this week, and this guy gets a match. Invader III chimes in that it’s time for them to go after the gold in WWC. An angry St. James says their time is over and instructs the ring crew to escort The Invaders from the set. Dory Dixon and film of the NWA Junior Heavyweight title change are next. . . COMMERCIALS . . A film clip from the Monday night card at Madison Square Garden is shown. Tatsumi Fujinami pins Jerry Brisco to win the NWA Junior Heavyweight title. St. James mentions that win has been looked at very closely by three individuals in WWC. Dory Dixon is in action in our next match, and we will have commentary from Super Medico and El Diablo Mascaras. DORY DIXON vs. GEORGE GAISER Both wrestlers shake hands before the contest starts. Gaiser scored with some effective football tackles. In the end, though, the speed of Dixon comes through. A flying cross body block from the top rope pins Gaiser @ 4:29. WINNER: DORY DIXON Medico and Mascaras are down the middle with their commentary in the match. As St. James goes to ringside, Mascaras and Medico pause and stare down Dixon. They pass on by with no incident. Dixon mentions that the whole match film showed Adrian Street, another top junior heavyweight contender, was in the crowd watching the match. Jerry Brisco is still in the title picture. St. James says that Mascaras and Medico give WWC what might be the most Junior Heavyweight title contenders in one territory. Dixon says that’s great. He wants everybody to be able to say that, when he faces Fujinami for the title, he has earned his shot. St. James tells the fans to stay tuned. The first words from Dean Ho, since his injury at the hands of the Manson Mafia, are next. . . COMMERCIALS . . A film clip shows Dean Ho walking around his home in Hawaii with his wife, Ruth. Ho stands in front of his home and tells the fans that he appreciates the cards and letters encouraging him in his recovery. Ho says that his shoulder is progressing nicely, according to the doctors. He is getting restless, though. He wants to put his full nelson on the members of the Manson Mafia. He should be back from the injury in time for the title shot with Carlos Colon against Curtis and Afi at Hiram Bithorn Stadium on October 28. St. James says that he will be talking to Carlos Colon after this match concerning the stipulations for that title defense that Ho mentioned. The announcer states that Colon is not happy with some of them. CARLOS COLON vs. THE U.S. PATRIOT Carlos is off his game somewhat early in this match. St. James, once again, mentions the stipulations may be bothering him. Colon rallies and gets the submission from The U.S. Patriot with a figure four @ 4:35. WINNER: CARLOS COLON St. James meets Colon at ringside. Colon says that he is, indeed, upset with one of the stipulations for the title defense on October 28. Colon is not able to face the Manson Mafia in any match before October 28. However, the match will be for the title with the loser of the fall having to leave the World Wrestling Council forever. St. James says he has seen the booking sheets for The Mafia up until the card at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. The teams The Samoan Kings are defending are formidable. Colon says he would like to take care of his own business, but he will do what he has to. St. James says the main event is next . . COMMERCIALS . . A film clip shows the pin from the St. Louis match where Harley Race and Ted DiBiase took the NWA World’s Tag Team Titles from Jesse Ventura and Ken Patera. St. James says that Race and DiBiase will defend the titles on October 30 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. A mini-tournament will be held on October 28 in San Juan to determine the challengers for that belt. Both teams in out main event will be in that mini-tournament. PEPPER GOMEZ/ MR. JUSTICE vs. TOSH TOGO/ SUPER MEDICO Justice and Gomez both come out in masks with clear screens over the eyes. St. James says they must have had them specially made. Togo is extremely frustrated since this means he won’t be able to use the salt if things get tough. Medico and Togo put the masks out of their minds and work on Gomez’s shoulder. Medico clamps on a chicken wing that it takes all that Gomez has to make the ropes. Justice ends up with Medico in a sleeper. Togo goes for something in his tights and….HE THROWS FIRE. The fireball catches Justice in the face. Benitez calls for the bell @ 6:25 and covers Justice’s face with his shirt. Several wrestlers come out from the back and tend to Justice. WINNERS: JUSTICE/ GOMEZ The crowd hears Togo say to St. James that he said the Rising Sun would burn today. The show closes with a VTR of the new NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Wahoo McDaniel standing in front of a NWA logo. He says that he is coming to the Roberto Clemente Coliseum this Sunday to face Gil Hayes. McDaniel refers to Hayes as “that Ric Flair wanna-be”. McDaniel points to his eye and says Ric Flair almost put that eye out. He looks intently into the camera and says, “Gil Hayes, I know Ric Flair and you are no Ric Flair.” (C) CAPITAL SPORTS
