WWA Champ. Wrestling 10/14/77 Dayton, OH

WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON ARENA
Dayton, OH
10/14/77
Bell Time: 3:00

MATCH #1

Wilhelm Ruska w/Gen. George Cannon  vs  Joe Lightfoot

Although he puts up a struggle, Lightfoot is no match for Ruska.  The Great Dane wins with an armbar submission.

WINNER:  WILHELM RUSKA @7:14

MATCH #2

Kengo Kimura, Kenji Shibuya, & Mr. Ito w/Gen. Cannon
                                     vs
Chief White Owl, Billy Red Cloud, & Bobby Bold Eagle

Great 6-man action as the Asians overcome their Indian rivals.  Bold Eagle falls to Ito's Japanese Sleeper.

WINNERS:  KIMURA, SHIBUYA, & ITO @8:45

MATCH #3

Antonio Inoki  vs  Geto Mongol

Geto looks like a new man as he battles the Japanese great hammer and tong.  Midway through the match, a large, dark figure can be seen in the shadows.  The end comes as Inoki attempts the octopus.  During the struggle, the referee is accidentally knocked down.  From the shadows, the rotund George "Two Ton" Harris appears and hits Inoki in the head with a steel chair.  Geto falls on top of Inoki and the referee recovers to make the three count.

WINNER:  GETO MONGOL @10:56

MATCH #4

Abdullah The Butcher  vs  Pak Song w/Gen. Cannon

Society as we know it is set back decades by this struggle.  As soon as the bell rings, these animals tear into each other with a reckless abandon.  Butcher uses his fork.  Song counters with judo.  Back and forth these two battle for supremacy.  Blood flows like rivers from the foreheads of these gladiators.  Soon, the ring can no longer contain the action.  The war goes to the floor and up the aisle.  Neither man heard the referee's count as they fought all the way to the dressing room and beyond.  It was obvious that nothing was settled in this clash of the titans and a rematch is inevitable.

WINNER:  NONE - Double Count Out @8:59

INTERMISSION

MATCH #5

WWA JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Dos Caras  vs  Black Cat

A very good match.  Both men throw caution to the wind as they trade high risk maneuvers with each other.  Dos Caras shows why he is a top contender for the AWA Jr. Hwt. Title as he hits Cat with a second rope cross-bodyblock.

WINNER:  DOS CARAS @9:22

MATCH #6

WWA TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

The Von Brauners w/Gerhardt Kaiser  vs  Luis Martinez & Big Red

The unusual pairing of Luis & Red make for an interesting match-up for the Champions. Kurt & Karl focus their attack on the less experienced Red.  For several minutes the Germans work over Red making sure to keep him in their corner where they tag in and out often.  With the last ounce of energy he has, Red double clotheslines the Champs and makes the tag to Luis.  Martinez hits the ring like a man possessed.  Luis rocked both Von Brauners from pillar to post.  Red couldn't help because he was still slumped in the corner.  The numbers game came back to haunt Luis as the Germans turned the tide on the popular Mexican.  The end came when Karl & Kurt hit a double clothesline for the victory.  Even in the loss, it was obvious that if Luis could find the right partner, he would have a fantastic chance to wear tag team gold.

WINNERS:  THE VON BRAUNERS @19:57

MATCH #7

WWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Otto Wanz  vs  Mil Mascaras

Wanz continues taking on all comers as he defends against the popular Mexican star.  This one is truly a gem.  Mascaras takes the early advantage after hitting a perfectly executed head-scissors.  Mil held the edge with a series of headlocks, armbars, and chinlocks.  Mil then moved into a standing bow and arrow.  Otto mustered enough strength to make the ropes.  The two men faced off in a test of strength which was won by the Champion.  Otto then went into a series of moves of his own which included leg dives, hip tosses, bearhugs, and a sleeperhold.  Mil reversed the sleeper and rolled Wanz into a pinning position.  The referee counted .......1.......Wanz kicks out.  Mil snatches Wanz in a small package.........1............2...........kick out.  Wanz comes back with an Oklahoma roll........1.............2.............kick out.  Mil connects with a splash...........1.................2.............kick out.  Wanz with a bodyslam.  Wanz with a splash of his own.............1.............2...........kick out.  Wanz attempts another bodyslam, but Mil snares him in a small package.........1..............2...........kick out.  The fans are on their feet.  Both men sit on their knees for a few seconds of a breather.  Now, both men are to their feet.  Wanz goes on a suplex spree following a knee to the mid-section.  Belly-to-belly, belly-to-back, side suplex, gut wrench, butterfly.  Wanz drops a legdrop and covers Mil................1..................2................................kick out.  Wanz picks up Mil.  He positions the challenger for a Samoan drop, but Mil wriggles out and sunset flips the Champion................1........................2...................3, no wait Wanz has his foot on the ropes.  Mil hits a series of flying tackles.  He climbs to the top rope and launches at the Champion with a beautiful high cross-bodyblock.............1...............2.............kick out.  The fans crowd closer to the ring.  Exhausted, both men struggle to their feet.  Wanz chops Mil hard in the chest.  He lifts him up for an airplane spin and deposits him on the canvas.................1........................2.......................foot on the ropes.  The fans now encircle the ring cheering wildly.  Mil double leg dives the Champion and locks on a Boston crab in the middle of the ring.  The referee asks Wanz if he wants to give up.  Wanz shakes his head wildly and yells "No."  Mil applies more pressure and the ref asks again.....Wanz shakes his head no again.  More pressure.  When the ref asks again, Wanz nods his head and begins to submit when the bell rings, signifying the end of the match.  The fans storm the ring to celebrate with the new champion.  The ring announcer, however, informs the mob that Wanz did not verbalize his submission before the bell rang and therefore the match is a one hour time limit draw and Wanz retains his title.  The crowd is still in a mood for celebration and hoist champion and challenger on their shoulders in congratulations for a classic match.

WINNER:  NONE - 1 Hour Time Limit Draw

Wanz and Mascaras was a match to remember. I love the fact that Wanz truely takes on all comers and the promoters get the best match up possible.

Martinez deserves a partner worth his salt to go after The Von Brauners.

Caras and Black Cat was good.

Inoki was robbed by Two Ton. Well, he's got Inoki now.

Great stuff in WWA.

Inoki is going to come back for payback. Dos looking so good and on a roll. Von Brauners keep showing why the are the champions. Mil looking good even if he lost that match.
