Wow, so MANY great memories - and so little responses! (I know this thread is old, but I couldn't resist.) Every Saturday Night, Big Time Wrestling - which is what the show was called down in California (for some reason?). I grew up on Don Owen's Portland Wrestling and consider myself to be an 80 percent reliable source of PNW-NWA info. The other 20 percent came before my time! With little to no footage remaining, the Pacific Northwest remains one of the great territories whose library is not a property of WWE Entertainment INC. Great faces, great heels, great times! I apologize ahead of time, as I see myself going on and on and on... I for one loved The Wrecking Crew. The Grappler (my PNW favorite) always made sure to have a bunch of goons handy. From The Barbarian (John Nord - The Berzerker), to The Equalizer (Dave "Evad" Sullivan)...from The Terminator (Johnny Ace and Animals brother) to "Big" Brian Adams, The WC was always a mean bunch of dudes. Speaking of mean dudes; Colonel Debeers and "Playboy" Buddy Rose...say no more! Rip Oliver and The Super Ninja anyone? You can't mention PNW and not "sneak in" Al Madril "The Latin Lover" - just the epitome of a great heel! (Any fan of Madril's work would appreciate the "sneak in" joke!) Speaking of great heels, Scotty The Body (later you know who) breaking up The Southern Rockers was a great angle. The whole Top Gun ordeal was a good angle as well...Recap: Grappler had been pushing around ("mentoring") the young Carl Styles for the better part of a year - abusing the youngster physically and mentally. Making fun of Carl being blind in one eye. Roddy Piper makes a brief stop in PNW, gets in Styles' head - talking the youngster into standing up against The Grappler and Crew. Soon after Piper leaves for Hollywood (again) and Styles was left to fend for himself. All seems bleak..when enter the former "Destroyer" (not the original of course) and "Assassin" - under a brand new mask, with a brand new attitude! After a small war, Top Gun takes the Grappler's coveted PNW Title and Style's takes the Grappler's beloved MASK! Great payoff for the faces...Better yet, to keep the heat after the feud - Grappler came out with his mask design painted on his face!! Proving to the fans you may out muscle him, but you can never outsmart the Grappler!!! Like he always said "Beat me, if you can"!!!
