WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL JUAN PACHIN VINCENES COLISEUM PONCE, PUERTO RICO OCTOBER 16, 1977 7 PM REFEREE: EL ARTACHE All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance. --Puerto Rican national anthem Match 1- BOB GRIFFIN defeats BULL GREGORY with a shoulder block off the middle rope and a lateral press. Time: 8:38 Match 2- EL DIABLO MASCARAS w/ MARK MANSON defeats DORY DIXON. This features an assortment of holds and counters early on. Arm drags, leg whips, and suplexes abound. Dixon hooks on an octopus hold that Mascaras manages to reach the ropes to break. Dixon does the same to Mascaras’ camel clutch. The silver attaché cast that Manson takes to the ring is used to garner the win. While Mascaras argues with Artache, Manson hits Dixon in the head with the briefcase. Mascaras responds with a brainbuster for the win. Time: 15:34 Match 3- KING TONGA/ HURACAN CASTILLO/ VICTOR RIVERA defeat TOSH TOGO/ SUPER MEDICO/ ROCK RIDDLE Medico, Togo, and Riddle triple team Rivera for the first prolonged advantage of this match. They work on his back. Riddle misses a clothesline on Rivera and takes out Togo. He tags in Castillo. Castillo and Tonga go to work on Riddle’s right leg. Riddle manages to take some shortcuts to get some temporary relief, but the leg is useless. Medico comes and makes some remarks to Castillo and Rivera. They come in and that allows Togo to drag Riddle over for a tag. The match ends with all six men involved. Togo and Riddle accidentally bump each other. Castillo dropkicks Togo through the middle ropes. Riddle gingerly gets up on his wobbly leg and Tonga hits a savate kick for the pin. Time: 18:39 Match 4- ROBERTO SOTO/ EL RAYO defeat THE INFERNOS w/ J.C. DYKES Inferno II uses his size and weight advantage to work over El Rayo in the beginning of this match. He and Inferno I tag in and out, taking out the ribs of their masked opponent. Inferno I power slams Rayo and almost gets the three before Rayo gets his shoulder at the last second. Rayo manages to make the tag to Soto and the Puerto Rican native gets the crowd going. Arm drags and dropkicks put Inferno I down, allowing the faces to stretch his back. Gil Hayes comes out and distracts Soto and Rayo. The Infernos manage to throw the faces to the floor. Late in the match, Inferno II has El Rayo in a full nelson. He turns to Dykes while Inferno I goes after Soto. Artache is engaged in that fight and he does not see Dykes get on the apron. The canteen hits Inferno I, as Rayo ducks. Rayo head butts Dykes and catches II in a small package. Time: 22:00 Match 5- PUERTO RICAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP HERCULES AYALA defeats VICTOR JOVICA w/ J.C. DYKES by DQ Dykes does not accompany Jovica out, as he is still smarting from the head butt thrown in the previous match. Jovica figures that the best defense is a good offense. He nails Ayala with a fist to the back of the head as Ayala turns from the ring introductions. Jovica ties Ayala in the ropes and busts him open. Artache manages to free Ayala but the damage is done. The bloody Ayala recovers after he throws Jovica to the floor. Dykes makes his way out and confers with his charge. The ringsiders see Jovica put something in his boot. Ayala poles Jovica and slaps Dykes. Jovica goes low as Artache checks on Dykes. Jovica slams Ayala’s back into the ring apron. When the match gets back in the ring, Jovica makes an error of exuberance. He charges into the corner while Ayala is in it. Ayala rolls away and Jovica hits the corner hard. Dykes goes into Jovica’s boots and passes Jovica brass knucks. He hits Ayala and is DQ’ed. Jovica continues to pound away until ring security forces him and Dykes to the back. Time: 26:55 . . INTERMISSION . . Match 6- CARLOS COLON wrestles GIL HAYES to a DRAW. The crowd is solidly behind the favorite son Colon in this contest as he comes to the ring. There are some cheers for Hayes following his match against Wahoo McDaniel in San Juan this past Sunday. That reception turns to jeers as he tries to strut after several arm drags and go behinds. Colon chops across Hayes’ chest several times as the crowd wails with each impact. Hayes goes into fifth gear and manages to capitalize on a missed dropkick from the top rope by Colon. He settles in on Colon’s back, eventually hooking on a Boston crab. It takes a lot of effort but Colon makes the ropes. Hayes, then, shifts to taking out the right knee of Colon. He weakens the knee. Colon grabs the front of Hayes’ trunks and drives the face of Hayes into the turnbuckle. A big knee lift followed by a fisherman’s suplex almost pins Hayes. Colon also goes for the right knee, locking on a figure four. Several reverses later, Hayes gets the ropes for the break. The match continues, with both wrestlers scoring near pins. A pile driver by Hayes has set Colon up to be pinned. Roberto Soto comes out and begins to jaw with Hayes. Hayes takes a swing at Soto and falls to the floor. Soto points to his temple and leaves. By the time Hayes gets back in the ring, Colon has recovered. The bells rings as both wrestlers are landing haymakers. The fans are on their feet. Time: 45:00 Match 7- THE SAMOAN KINGS w/ MARK MANSON wrestle THE INVADERS to a DOUBLE DISQUALIFICATION. The Invaders come to the ring first. The Samoan Kings are met by The Invaders as they come down the aisle. The heels give new meaning to the term “Battle of the Bullies”. Artache uses discretion in trying to get the men back into the ring. Manson is able to turn the tide for a time. Invader I takes care of him by throwing a heart punch. The Invaders, then, drag Curtis and Afi to the ring. Invader I focuses on the back of Afi. Curtis tries to tag in, but is unable to. Afi actually makes the tag twice but Artache does not see it. The Invaders try to finish off Afi with a flying elbow from the top rope. Invader III takes out Invader I when Afi ducks. Curtis gets the tag and he chops Invader I to his knees. A front face lock becomes a near pinning move as Curtis picks Invader I and drops him to the mat. The weight of Curtis comes down on the masked man. A rear chin lock is modified into a bow and arrow. Manson, who has struggled back to ringside, takes his briefcase and slams Invader I in the head. Afi has the attention of Artache, who only sees a bleeding Invader I. The action is back and forth, with both sides ending up bloody. Artache tries to let the teams go at it and get some sort of decision. The brutality is too intense and he has to rule it a double disqualification. The last blow is when Invader I hits King Curtis with a heart punch. Medical personnel tend to him and help him to the back. Time: 28:02 (C) CAPITAL SPORTS
