WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL TV 10/20/77
Oct 20th, 2007, 12:50pm

WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL TELEVISION
SUPERSTRELLAS DE LA LUCHE LIBRE
WAPA-TV CHANNEL 4
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
TAPED: THURSDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 18, 1977
BROADCAST: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1977
COMMENTATOR: RICK ST. JAMES
REFEREE: TOMAS MARIN

All matches are sanctioned and governed by the National Wrestling Alliance.

Theme music is played and the WWC logo is super imposed over arena match action.

St. James is shown at the interview desk and he welcomes the audiences to the greatest wrestling from the greatest paradise… Puerto Rico.

St. James takes a briefcase from under the desk. He takes out a championship belt. He goes on to explain that the World Wrestling Council will be recognizing a North American Heavyweight champion, starting on November 22.

A tournament will be held and will culminate in the crowning of that champion at Hiram Bithorn Stadium on Thanksgiving night. Next week, WWC will start a series of qualifying matches for that tournament. We will go over those qualifying matches in their entirety and look at the brackets next week.

But, St. James says, we will see the first qualifying match next week. Baron Scicluna, from the WWWF, takes on Mr. Justice. St. James tells the audience that Justice was protected from the full effects of Tosh Togo’s fireball last by the mask he wears. He is excited about getting revenge on Togo and Medico and taking on Scicluna next week.

New NWA Junior Heavyweight champion Tatsumi Fujinami will be here in the main event to face El Diablo Mascaras with Mark Manson close by. St. James tells the studio crowd that match and a lot more action will commence after the folks in charge pay some bills.

The show returns with a video tape showing J.C. Dykes behind a podium in a pulpit. Shaking his canteen like a bible, he states that, if you spare the rod, you spoil the child. He then instructs the Infernos to collect the offering, which will be used to enlarge their congregation.

St. James is shown back at the interview desk, where he mentions that Dykes must have had one communion too many. Earl Maynard may bare the brunt of it, though.

EARL MAYNARD vs. CICLON SUDAMERICANO

After a handshake, Ciclon and Maynard wrestle a scientific match. Maynard gets the win with a roll-up @ 4:07.

WINNER: EARL MAYNARD

As Ciclon and Maynard shake hands again the match, The Guardian and The Infernos hit the ring. The three of them have belts, which they use to beat Maynard and Ciclon.  They leave the two wrestlers face down in the ring.

St. James says he will have a report on the injuries that Maynard and Ciclon may have suffered as soon as the information is available. A man who has wrestled some intense matches, as of late, Gil Hayes, is up next.

Film clips of Gil Hayes wrestling World Champ Wahoo McDaniel in San Juan and Carlos Colon in Ponce are shown. Hayes exhibits an exceptional drive in these clips.

St. James mentions that Hayes stepped it up a notch in these matches with McDaniel and Colon. He will try to continue that roll in the following match. St. James says he will talk with Hayes about his plans for the future after the bout.

GIL HAYES vs. THE U.S. PATRIOT

Hayes quickly goes to work on the right knee of The U.S. Patriot. He gets the submission with the Indian Death Lock @ 3:58.

WINNER: GIL HAYES

St. James makes his way to ringside to interview Hayes.

St. James asks Hayes if the promo that McDaniel cut before the World Championship match motivated him in any way. It is the last words that St. James gets in during the interview. Hayes roughly grabs the mike.

Hayes stares into the camera but he is talking directly to McDaniel. He says that he is not Ric Flair, but he is confident that McDaniel now knows Gil Hayes is a man that can kick his tail and take that strap at any time. The business day between him and McDaniel is not closed.

The mindless fans think that Carlos Colon walks on water here in Puerto Rico. Hayes says he stood toe to toe with Colon two days ago in Ponce. He has proven he is not just a ladies man but a man with a mission. That mini tournament in San Juan on Oct. 28 will be won by Gil Hayes and Rock Riddle. Hayes will, then, get the gold he deserves when he puts on that World Tag Team Title belt.

St. James says that Gil Hayes dreams big. He thinks Hayes might be able to make that fantasy become a reality. Carlos Colon and Victor Rivera tag next.

The show returns to film of a North American Tag Team Title match in Ponce between The Invaders and The Samoan Kings. King Curtis is on the receiving end of an Invader I heart punch.

St. James says that “The Battle of the Bullies” between The Invaders and The Kings resulted in a double count out. St. James wonders how will the heart punch taken by King Curtis figure into the title defense on October 28 involving Carlos Colon and Dean Ho. St. James says he will talk to Colon and Victor Rivera after the following match.

VICTOR RIVERA/ CARLOS COLON vs. ALI BABA/ BULL GREGORY

Gregory and Baba enjoy some early success against Rivera, but Colon and Rivera prove to be too much to handle. A cannonball drop by Rivera and a figure four by Colon cause Gregory to give up @ 4:18.

WINNERS: RIVERA/ COLON

The winning duo meets St. James at ringside.

Colon tells St. James that the Manson Mafia thought they had it made when the got that stip that Colon could not wrestle them until October 28th in Hiram Bithorn Stadium. They must face some tough WWC tag teams and singles wrestlers until he and Ho get hold of them.

Rivera gets his chance to talk and he tells St. James he is tired of Manson sticking his nose where it does not belong. He wants a real chance to knock that nose off. He has gone to the promoters and asked to wrestle Mark Manson on October 28th. They have agreed and his goal is to make sure The Samoan Kings are the only ones to be in the Colon/ Ho match.

St. James says that the October 28th card is shaping up to be a barnburner. The enraged Puerto Rican champion Hercules Ayala will join the program next.

A film clip shows highlights from the match in Ponce between Hercules Ayala and Victor Jovica. Jovica is disqualified in the Puerto Rican title match for using brass knucks. Jovica beats Ayala with the knucks after the match.

St. James says that Ayala has an answer for Jovica’s use of brass knucks. He will reveal that answer to St. James and the audience after this match.

HERCULES AYALA vs. BOB GRIFFIN

Ayala disposes of Griffin quite quickly after the veteran Griffin decides to use some questionable tactics. A power slam by Ayala leads to a three count @ 3:03.

WINNER: HERCULES AYALA

Ayala meets St. James at ringside.

Ayala says he has the answer for Jovica in his boot. He pulls out his own set of brass knucks. He announces he got some special conditions added to his Puerto Rican Title match against Jovica at Bithorn Stadium. Whoever wins the match gets five minutes where they can legally use the brass knucks. He will make sure Jovica’s face looks like a kid’s jack-o-lantern.

St. James says the new World’s Junior Heavyweight champion, Tatsumi Fujinami, will face El Diablo Mascaras next in our main event. That contest will be after this break.

St. James is at the interview desk with a somewhat recovered Earl Maynard. Maynard tells St. James he has spent the last few minutes in contact with the promoters. He is tired of being beaten with belts and straps from behind. He wants to face them straight up. The match between him and Dory Dixon and The Infernos on October 28 will now be a strap match. No disqualification. Case closed.

St. James sends it to the match waiting in the ring.

NON-TITLE MATCH
TATSUMI FUJINAMI vs. EL DIABLO MASCARAS w/ MARK MANSON

Fujinami shows why he was able to beat Jerry Brisco early in the match. He uses arm drags, leg whips, go behinds, and suplexes to leave Mascaras dizzy. He goes to the floor to confer with Manson.

Mascaras manages to stun Fujinami with a sudden and stiff high knee lift. A swinging neck breaker by Diablo Mascaras leads to a quick two count. Mascaras works on Fujinami’s back with a surfboard, a bow and arrow, and an octopus hold. Fujinami manages to break or counter all of them. Diablo Mascaras throws Fujinami through the middle ropes.

Manson tries to hit the Junior Heavyweight champ with his silver attaché case while Mascaras argues with Marin. Dory Dixon grabs the case and hits Manson with it. Diablo Mascaras goes down to the floor and Manson and he fight Dixon. Fujinami comes down to help Dixon and Marin counts both wrestlers out of the ring @ 6:39.

FUJINAMI-MASCARAS: DOUBLE COUNT OUT

St. James tells both audiences to visit the shut-ins and make it to church this Sunday but don’t forget to tune to Superstrellas de la Luche Libre next week.

Great show as usual. Gil Hayes has made the P.R. Senoritas dreams come true and now he's going to make his own dreams come true by becoming a World Champion.

Victor Rivera and Carlos Colon are an excellent tag-team. If they are in the mini-tournament I'd have to consider them the dark horse to win the thing.

Good to see Maynard get a win. Colon and Rivera make a good team. I always liked Victor. Very goos work. One thing, I know all browsers are different, but the teal, white and yellow does not not show up well for me.

I agree with Red, Rivera and Colon are a great team, I'd pay good money to see them against the World Tag Team Champions.

Fujinami and El Diablo was a good way to end the show, that would've been a great match.
