WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON ARENA
Dayton, OH
10/25/77
Bell Time: 7:00

MATCH #1

Tony Hernandez  vs  Burrhead Jones

Burrhead looked good as he won with a headbutt.

WINNER:  BURRHEAD JONES @5:32

MATCH #2

Union Jack  vs  Mr. New Zealand

Great match-up between two these two newcomers.  Jack comes out on top with the London Bridge.

WINNER:  UNION JACK @8:01

MATCH #3

WWA JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Dos Caras  vs  Johnny Kwango

Fantastic match with lots of aerial maneuvers mixed with solid mat wrestling.  The end comes when Caras catches Kwango with a small package.  After the match, Unino Jack whispers in Kwango's ear and the two men walk to the back together.

WINNER:  DOS CARAS @9:19

MATCH #4

Geto Mongol w/George Harris  vs  Carlos Rocha

Rocha looked good until Geto landed several head-butts.  In the end, Geto wins with a bearhug.

WINNER:  GETO MONGOL @6:11

INTERMISSION

MATCH #5

Mil Mascaras, Antonio Inoki, Big Daddy, & Big Red
                                            vs
Kenji Shibuya, Kengo Kimura, Pak Song, & Mr. Ito w/Gen. George Cannon

This was a hard hitting, even, affair until a shocking betrayal occurred.  The popular quartet set the pace and the unique styles blended quite well.  The Asians were kept off balance with each tag from their opponents.  Mascaras flew, Inoki mat wrestled, and Daddy and Red used power moves to torment the heels.  Eventually all eight men began battling in the ring.  Daddy was knocked from the ring and the Asians took advantage.  The Brit. slowly rose to his feet where he was met by Union Jack and Johnny Kwango.  The three men talked for a few seconds and walked to the dressing room.  Outnumbered, it was only a matter of time before Cannon's Army singled out Red and punished him unmercifully until the big man was caught with a vicious chop by Song.  The referee made the count and the Asians were declared the winners.  Mil, Inoki, & Red were left wondering what became of their partner.

WINNERS:  CANNON'S ARMY @21:55

MATCH #6

WWA TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
The Von Brauners w/Gerhardt Kaiser  vs  Luis Martinez & Joe Lightfoot

Luis and Joe did not waste their first shot at tag team gold as they gave the Champions all they could handle.  The Germans took over the bout after a strong first few minutes by the popular duo.  They focused their attention on the less experienced Lightfoot.  Joe looked to be in serious trouble as the Nazi sympathizers put the boots to the youngster.  Just as it looked like all hope was gone, Joe ducked a double clothesline and made the tag to Luis.  Luis entered like a man possessed.  The "Arriba Kid" nailed both Germans with well-placed punches and dropkicks.  Joe soon joined his partner.  The Germans tried everything they knew, but could not slow the Luis/Joe tandem down.  Realizing their titles were slipping away, Karl & Kurt bailed from the ring and high-tailed it back to the dressing room.  The referee counted to ten and awarded the decision to Luis and Joe.  Luis grabbed the house mic and demanded a rematch any time, any place.

WINNERS:  LUIS MARTINEZ & JOE LIGHTFOOT  by count out @28:47

MATCH #7

WWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Otto Wanz  vs  Killer Karl Krupp w/Gerhardt Kaiser

Otto, still bandaged from his recent battles with Geto Mongol, was extremely cautious of the brain claw of the challenger.  He knew that if Krupp applied the hold, his stitches would be ripped out and his wound would continue to worsen.  Protecting the injury opened Wanz up for attack on other parts of his body.  Krupp worked on the ribcage of Wanz and was successful in weakening the Champion in that area.  Kicks, punches, kneedrops, and elbowdrops to the ribs had the Austrian in pain for much of the match.  Otto slowly got the edge when Krupp attempted a kneedrop from the top rope.  Wanz moved and krupp crashed to the canvas.  Otto looked to go on his famous suplex spree, but the pain to his ribcage was too much.  Thinking quickly, Wanz leg-tripped Krupp and applied an Indian deathlock to the German battler.  Unable to reach the ropes, Krupp passed out from the pain and was pinned.  Kaiser entered the ring and tried to revive Krupp as Wanz soaked in the cheers of the fans.  As the Champ was ready to leave the ring, a recovered Krupp attacked Wanz and applied the brain claw.  Before much damage could be down, Mascaras and Inoki charged the ring to break up the attack.

WINNER:  OTTO WANZ @19:22

WWA remains among the Best of the Best in NWA Classic.
good win by Burrhead.
I don't know Kwango, or the masked men so it's hard to get an idea as to what those matches were like.
Geto Mongol continues to impress. I fully expect to see him with gold at some point.
smart move with Big Daddy. This balances things out with two giants coming out of each dressing room.
Martinez and Lightfoot make a great tag-team. I've always been a huge fan of the Aribba Kid but he's slowing down and this will allow you to eventually elevate Lightfoot into a top mid-card position.
You're doing a great job with Wanz. He was past his prime when he worked the AWA but from what I've read and seen he could work - for a big man - in his prime. Now we need to see Otto and Red against Big Daddy and Pak Song.

Boy, Big Daddy has a lot of questions to answer!

Wanz is truly a jack of all trades. He looks good against all kinds of styles. Krupp deserves another shot, though.

The Brit alliance is imposing.

Doc Caras is certainly looking good in his defenses.

Nice to see Burrhead with a win.

Great AWA action in WWA as always.
