AWA International 10/20/77 (Walter Johnson joins)
Nov 7th, 2007, 1:02pm

AWA International Wrestling 10/20/77 (Taped 10/17/77)

All matches are sanctioned by the AWA!

~ In a match not taped for television, International Tag Team Champions the Mercenaries (Mad Dog Martel & Frenchie Martin) defeated Mr. Hito and new comer Chris Colt when Martin pinned Hito following a double shoulderbreaker.

This show is coming to you from CHLT TV studios in Sherbrooke, Québec!

And now your hosts of the show Jack Curran & Jack Britton!

The Opening of the show begins with Curran and Britton welcoming former Cleveland Browns’ defensive tackle from the NFL, Walter Johnson to International Wrestling. Johnson is here in the front row as a spectator today but will soon be debuting in the ring for International Wrestling. Walter does a quick bow and thanks Curran and Britton for the welcome. Johnson looks forward to watching the action front and center and get a chance to glance over the competitors he will soon be in the ring with.

As Walter takes his seat Curran begins discussions of the current Quebec Heavyweight Champion Raymond Rougeau and his upcoming bout against the wild Norwegian, Eric the Red.

Major Duke comes out along with his current stable including Eric the Red.

The Major talks about his charge’s upcoming Quebec Title shot on November 5th against Raymond Rougeau. Duke feels Eric the Red has already proven he can defeat the entire Rougeau family in one night, and he only needs to defeat Raymond on the 5th. The Major thinks Eric the Red will demolish the Quebec Champion and put Raymond out of action once and for all in the process with the massive Norwegian Splash.

Duke George then reminds us that the keeper of the whistle is who controls the beast, and the Major IS the keeper of the whistle. Duke says if he tells Red to do something, it will be done, and he has already instructed Eric to take the title on November 5.

Curran tries to ask The Major about General JR Foley trying to overthrow his power in International. The Major had nothing to say other than, he will handle Foley after he handles the Rougeau’s.

The Major blows the dog whistle to control the beast as he walks off the screen..

Up next fans we have a newcomer in action, he goes by the name of the Cuban Assassin.

Bout 1: “The Cuban Assassin” Angel Acevedo (w/Gen. JR Foley) defeated Greg Peterson in 3:30 with a knee drop to the chest after Peterson missed a dropkick.

Foley has done it again, he has once again brought in another top foreign star to the area, how big will his Army get? We may find out when we return because Foley, and his Army will be here for Interview time.

We are now going to take a look at a new team, but familiar faces, you’ll see what we mean in just a moment.

Bout 2: The newly formed team of Jacques Rougeau Jr. & Mad Dog Lefebvre defeated Steve Bolus & Terry Yorkston in 5:00 of a tough bout when Lefebvre pinned Bolus after a powerslam while Jacques held off Yorkston.

After the match Jacques & Lefebvre are interviewed by Jack Curran. Jacques tells Curran he’s happy to have Lefebvre on his side now. The Mad Dog tells Curran that once upon a time the Rougeau family was his second family, and he has recently been welcomed back into their home. The Mad Dog & Jacques Jr. look to sweep the tag team scene.

It’s once again Interview Time, and Curran is joined by The General JR Foley and his Army currently consisting of The British team of “Cyanide” Sid Coopr & “Strongman” Alan Dennison along with newcomer The Cuban Assassin.

Foley talks about his Army and announces that next week his army will be complete when he brings British Heavyweight Champion, Billy Robinson to International Wrestling. For weeks Foley has mentioned Robinson in interviews, and next week we will finally see the man live on TV!

Curran moves on with more questions, asking Foley about his recent altercations with the Major Duke George and his army.

Then JR Foley asks Curran what army he was referring to? Foley didn’t think Duke George had an Army left. Foley noted a GENERAL ranks much higher than a MAJOR and if Duke George gets in Foley’s way, he will make sure there is no more Duke George in International Wrestling.

Foley then mentions how his Brits will be facing the Tag Team Champions The Mercenaries at the Forum on the 5th as well. If his team wins, they will be given a title shot. Foley predicts his Army will have the tag team gold before the end of the year!

Foley’s says his army of Cuban Assassin, Cooper & Dennison as well as Billy Robinson will be the Army to be reckoned with from here on in.

Chief War Eagle is out to announce he would like to challenge for the Television Title against Champion the masked Mr. Pro. War Eagle says he understands the TV Title bout is next, so he’s out here to fight the champ.

Curran explains to War Eagle that this is not how the TV Title works and the Chief should know that. A challenger is chosen at random and this week Mr. Pro’s opponent is Terry Garvin, not War Eagle. This upsets the Chief who says he will remain at ringside for the bout.

Bout 3: Television Champion Mr. Pro defeated Terry Garvin in 4:00 with a sunset flip out of the corner. During the contest Chief War Eagle watched from ringside.

After the match War Eagle takes the mic from Curran and challenges Mr. Pro to a bout in the very near future. War Eagle promises when his name is drawn from the challenger’s hat, he will take the title from Pro.

Mr. Pro comes out after the Chief and accepts the challenge, he tells the matchmaker’s to make the bout and he will be ready.

Don’t touch the dial fans, when we return…Larry Sharpe claims he will end yet another career here in International Wrestling PLUS we have a surprise

Larry Sharpe is out with partner in crime, Jack Evans. Sharpe promises to dispose IW of the Green Hornet, just like he did with Rick McGraw & Serge Dumont. Sharpe blames the Hornet for his TV Title loss, and claims tonight the winless wonder will have his career ended with a flawless recorder…the flawless record of a loser 0-Forever.

Bout 4: “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe (w/Jack Evans) defeated the Green Hornet after a pair of piledriver’s in 3:00.

After the match Sharpe hits a THIRD piledriver then instructs Evans to bring a chair into the ring, Evans obliges without hesitation. Sharpe picks up the Hornet and sets up for a 4th piledriver, this time on a chair…

Former NFL’er WALTER JOHNSON is out of his seat and standing at the ring apron now, pointing his finger at Evans & Sharpe, warning them not to injure the Hornet any further.

This doesn’t phase Sharpe or Evans he laugh at Johnson. The Pretty Boy throws the Hornet from the ring and challenges Walter Johnson to ENTER THE RING!

Walter slides into the ring where Evans & Sharpe are waiting. The duo begins to stomp and pound on Johnson before he can get to his feet. They whip Johnson off the ropes, but Walter DUCKS a double clothesline! Johnson comes firing back off the ropes with a flying tackle onto Evans, and then a flying tackle onto Sharpe…

Walter gets down in a three-point stance as Sharpe & Evans get to their feet. Johnson charges and a DOUBLE shoulder block takes Evans & Sharpe out of the ring to the floor simultaneously. The Crowd explodes!

Walter Johnson gets riles up and runs in place begging Sharpe & Evans to re-enter the ring, but the duo want no part! Walter continues to challenge the two blondes as we cut away for commercial.

As we close the show Curran talks about what just transpired between Walter Johnson and the duo of Evans/Sharpe. We plan to hear more about this situation next week.

Also next week look for the debut of General JR Foley’s “British Heavyweight Champion” Billy Robinson. Mr. Pro will be here to defend the TV Title, will War Eagle’s name be pulled as the challenger? We will hear from Heavyweight Champion Ray Rougeau about his upcoming title defense against Eric the Red and Tag Champions the Mercenaries will be in action.

We also hope to hear much more about the November 5th Montreal Card so join us back then.

I am really interested to see how you use Johnson here. The football player coming over to wrestling always gets my attention.

Rogeau and Mad Dog look to be a great team here.

War Eagle and Pro looks to be a good match here.

Loving the International action.

Continued good work with the Major and the General. I would like to see George add to his Army though. With Foley's acquisition of Billy Robinson the war is going to be extremely lopsided.

Jacques Jr. and Lefebvre will make a great team. I wonder if they ever teamed together when they were in GCW.

Nice touch bringing in Johnson. “The Cuban Assassin” looked great! Nice team of Jacques Rougeau Jr. & Mad Dog Lefebvre. Mr. Pro continues to look good. Johnson will surely shake things up a bit here. Great show!
