WWA Champ. Wrestling Syracuse, NY 11/6/77
Nov 8th, 2007, 2:15am

WWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
ONONDAGA COUNTY WAR MEMORIAL
Syracuse, NY
11/6/77
Bell Time: 7:00

MATCH #1

Wilhelm Ruska w/Gen. Cannon  vs  Big Red

Red continues his recent string of tough losses as he is caught in the armbar submission and gives up.

WINNER:  WILHELM RUSKA @5:45

MATCH #2

Union Jack, Big Daddy, & Johnny Kwango  vs  Chief White Owl, Billy Red Cloud, & Bobby Bold Eagle

The Brits dominate the Indians as Bold Eagle is splashed by Big Daddy

WINNERS:  UNION JACK, BIG DADDY, & JOHNNY KWANGO @7:12

MATCH #3

WWA Junior Heavyweight Title Match
Dos Caras  vs  Cien Caras

Great back and forth effort from both men.  Neither could gain a significant advantage and the match ended in a 30 minute time limit draw.

WINNER:  NONE - 30 minute time limit draw

MATCH #4

Antonio Inoki  vs  Mr. Ito w/Gen. Cannon

Inoki came out in search of revenge for the beating the Army gave him Sunday night.  Antonio made short work of Ito, winning with the octopus hold.  After the match, Inoki was attacked by the Army again.  Ito, Pak Song, Kenji Shibuya, and Ruska rushed the ring and beat Inoki to a bloody pulp.  Suddenly, Bruiser charged the ring with a 2x4.  Bruiser cleaned house, but soon the numbers caught up to him and he, too, was beaten bloody.  The Army only stopped after being threatened with suspension by WWA official Sandy Scott.

WINNER:  ANTONIO INOKI @6:56

INTERMISSION

MATCH #5

Mil Mascaras  vs  Roddy Piper

Mascaras accepts Piper's challenge from Sunday night.  This was an exquisite clash of styles as Piper used rough tactics against the high-flying style of Mascaras.  Piper gained the early advantage as poked Mil in the eye.  From there, Piper boxed Mil for a couple of minutes.  Next, Roddy used a dazzling series of moves to put Mil down.  Piper went from a hammerlock to a headlock to a snap mare to a half Boston crab.  Mil managed to roll over and kick Piper off.  Mil regained his feet and hit a series of dropkicks.  From there, Mil used shoulder tackles to keep Piper off-balance.  Piper came back and then the two engaged in a classic example of hold/counter-hold for the next several minutes.  The end came as Mil prepared to soar at Piper from the top rope.  Piper caught Mil and rolled through the cross-bodyblock to put Mil's shoulder's to the mat for the 1, 2, 3!  The referee didn't notice Piper's feet on the ropes for leverage.

WINNER:  RODDY PIPER @33:32

MATCH #6

WWA Tag Team Title Match
The Von Brauners w/Gerhardt Kaiser  vs  Luis Martinez & Joe Lightfoot

Another great match in this series.  The Champions attacked the challengers before the bell sounded.  They held the advantage for the majority of the match.  Luis & Joe managed to make a few brief comebacks, but they didn't last long.  The Germans used every dirty trick they knew, but the challengers would not give up.  Time and again, the Von Brauners thought that they had Joe and Luis defeated, only to have them wriggle out of pinfall attempts and submission holds.  Finally, Joe began to come back.  Slowly, he fought back and managed to tag in Luis.  Luis ducked a clothesline and hit a hard chop to the chest of Karl as Joe tripped Kurt as he rebounded off the ropes.  Luis, then, locked Karl in a sleeper and had the Champion on the verge of dreamland.  Kaiser climbed up on the ring apron and distracted the referee.  From the back, Killer Karl Krupp ran in and hit Luis with a large chain.  Luis collapsed and Karl fell on top of him.  The ref turned around and made the count as Joe was held back by Krupp.

WINNERS:  THE VON BRAUNERS @26:44

MATCH #7

WWA Heavyweight Title Match
Otto Wanz  vs  Dick the Bruiser

This should have been another great encounter from these two, but Dick was still suffering from the beating he received earlier at the hands of Cannon's Army.  Bruiser entered the ring with a blood soaked bandage around his head.  Wanz suggested they postpone the bout, but Bruiser told him where to go and how to get there.  Wanz obliged to the match taking place and showed no mercy on the burly veteran.  Dick fought hard, but he was weak from the loss of blood.  Wanz soon gained the permanent advantage and drained Bruiser's energy with a series of suplexes.  Wanz then lifted Bruiser up for the Samoan Drop.  Dick struggled, but was drilled int the canvas.  The referee made the count and raised Wanz' hand in victory.  Immediately after the announcement of Wanz as the victor, the Army charged the ring to finish the assault on Bruiser.  Wanz saw this and immediately went to work on the evil-doers.  Suddenly, Antonio Inoki charged the ring and fought with Wanz to clear the ring.  Luckily, the Army never laid a finger on the Bruiser and all three favorites walked to the back together.

WINNER:  OTTO WANZ @16:10

Wanz continues to roll. Inoki, Bruiser, and Wanz look to have their hands full with the Cannon Army.

Dos Caras continues to protect that title.

Loved the Brit faction.

The inclusion of Sandy Scott made me mark out for the Inoki match.

The Von Brauners steal one.

Mascaras vs. Piper was the one I wanted to see and it did not disappoint.

Continued great work. DTB, Inoki and Wanz v/s the Army is easily one of the best programs going in NWA Classic today. I just hope that it won't end with a turn by any of the faces.

I've enjoyed the WWA. With Inoki, Mascaras, Big Daddy, Johnny Kwango, etc., you have a WWA far different that really existed in the Midwsdet. That's not necessarily a bad thing. That's what fantasy wrestling is for, writing your own stories.
