Where was Ole Anderson 1988-1989?
Nov 10th, 2007, 10:13am

Ole seemed to disappear from the NWA/WCW after Turner bought out Crockett Promotions. I gather he was working behind the scenes? He reappeared in 1990 when Arn returned from WWF during Flair's fued with Gary Hart's stable of Great Muta, Buzz Sawyer and Dragon. Then Sting joined the Horsemen and was thankfully booted out. Ole and Arn started teaming again and yet never won any titles. I was just wondering if anyone remembers what Ole was doing during the 1988-1989 time frame wrestling wise.

Thanks

Let's go back a bit here. Ole was with the Horsemen in 1986. Then he was booted in 1987 for Luger, sparking the WTBS brawl with Tully. He later wrestled Big Bubba at the Crockett Cup.

From the spring of '87 until New Year's Day 1988 he was out of sight, working behind the scenes I'm sure or just taking time off. Then on New Year's night he made a surprise return at The Omni to save Lex Luger, of all people, in an attack by the Horsemen. This set up a brief return there and a series of cage matches with Lex and Ole against Flair and Tully or Arn.

Then he was gone again until, best I can remember, fall 1989 when he came out as Flair's second in matches against Terry Funk. He was with Flair and Sting at Halloween Havoc that year. Then made his return with Arn in December that year when Arn returned from the WWF.

bluedevil, thanks for the refresher and timeline...I forgot all about the surpise appearance where he helped Lugar against the Horseman...that was in the Omni if I'm not mistaken and the subsequent matches with Ole and Lugar against Flair, Arn and Tully were good. Once again, it was a short lived fued and never seemed to reach any conclusion at all. I've been watching a lot of matches from 1987-1992 of NWA/WCW and it was difficult to keep up with what his role was. When he had and Arn got back together in 1990 after the Horsemen kicked Sting out, I was sure they would get another run with the world tag belts but it never happened.
