Goof up !
Nov 19th, 2007, 2:35pm

I am wondering if anybody knows up "Goof up" from announcers to ppvs
from NWA or WCW

Example #1 Jim Ross at Great American Bash 1990
called first match with Pillman vs Landell
"First match at Starrcade 1990" but JR this is Great American Bash not Starrcade

Example #2 they were late playing music themes for
Brian Pillman & Midnight Express at same event

Example #3 camera shots & graphic on Ric Flair name appear when director show fan holding picture of sting in crowd

Let me know what were goof up u seen in NWA or WCW

At the end of Starrcade 93, Gene Okerlund says "We'll be seein' we'll say ya" instead of "We'll be sayin' we'll see ya" at whatever the next PPV was.

The classic one was where at a Clash of Champions, Brian Pillman(in the midst of his loose cannon/working the boys gimmick) put his hands on Bobby Heenan during commentary and Heenan dropped the "F-bomb" on live TV.

Holy Smokes...I remember that now...Wow.

Remember when Lex attacked Sting at the Clash on 11/19/91?  He was the last 'present' to be opened?  He was supposed to go after Sting's surgically repaired knee...AND GRABBED THE WRONG ONE?  Sting practically had to feed Luger the other leg....

Similarly...I knowI've probably already mentioned it, but Starrcade 87...Dusty/Luger....Luger goes to drop an elbow with his right arm, Rhodes moves and immediately goes to work on the left arm(Any time I get to rip on Dusty is a good time indeed).

What about June 1994 when they aired an update where Gene Okerlund talked about results from the Clash show and referred to Flair beating Sting to unify the two world titles. The only problem was this aired the weekend BEFORE the actual show.

I recall an episode of WCW World Wide in 1993 after they started taping at Disney/MGM where Tony Schiavone had just finished an interview with someone and right before a commercial break mentioned that "NWA champion" Rick Rude was next. While Rude was announced as NWA champion at the initial tapings which took place long before the shows actually aired, WCW had broken away from the NWA by the time this made TV and they had already made a big deal on commentary about how WCW only recognized the belt worn by Rude as just a big piece of gold now.

On an episode of WCW Saturday Night that aired not too long after Bobby Heenan came in, he almost said WWF instead of WCW and Schiavone cut him off and told him to get his letters right. I think there were also incidents where Heenan also accidentally referred to Curt Hennig as Mr. Perfect and Meng as Haku. He also almost called Rude "WCW" champion at Spring Stampede '94 before saying he was International champion, and at the same event, Schiavone says that Steamboat beat Flair for the WCW World title five years ago even though it was still the NWA title then (in '89).

When Barry Windham was introduced as Flair's mystery opponent at Slamboree '94, Jesse Ventura said that Flair beat Windham to win the WCW World heavyweight championship when it was actually the NWA title.

Also in 1994, I seem to recall an episode of World Wide where Larry Zbysko was either promoted or wrestled a match as World TV champion when he had already lost the title back to Regal at the Clash of Champions. They also mentioned that there would be cage match for the International title at Bash at the Beach between Sting and Rude when Rude was already gone from the company and Flair had already beaten Sting to unify the titles.

On WCW Saturday Night in 1996, Schiavone was talking about an nWo tag team tournament and accidentally said NWA before correcting himself.

On an episode of Monday Nitro around 2000, Mark Madden said that The Great Muta was a former WCW International World Champion when he actually held the NWA title.

Michael Buffer made numerous errors, like "Bret Clark", "Hulkmania", and the list goes on. He even mistakenly called referee Randy Anderson "Randy Peterson".

I'll never forget that. Its rarely mentioned, but has to be the biggest blooper in wrestling history. My jaw hit the floor. I was looking forward to that Clash, and there was Mean Gene telling us the winners before the event took place.

I always knew wrestling wasn't "real", but at that moment I realized how preplanned everything was.

yep, that was a classic.

One of my favorites was at Clash 14. When Bobby Eaton prepares to enter the ring, you can hear a countdown of "3..2..." and then these horribly fake sounding "Bobby! Bobby!" chants are piped in. I'd expect nothing less from WCW.  Shocked

I liked when Davey Boy was talking about Sting putting Sid or Vader in "that sharpshooter." On a promo for Bash At The Beach.

Two Things come to mind for me:

During a Wargames match featuring The Horsemen vs. Sting, Steiners, and Brian Pillman, Sid has Rick Steiner in the corner and the camera got really close and you hear:

Sid: "Is he coming?"
Rick: "Yeah..."
Sid: "Is he on the second rope?"
Rick: "Yeah"
Sid: "Let's do it"

Next thing you know, Sid goes to throw Rick to the opposite corner, Rick reverses it, and Scott comes flying off the rope and clothlines Sid.

Dusty Rhodes was on the announce team and made a comment: "I don't even know where these guys are coming from."

My brother and I responed by saying weren't you listening...he came from the second rope. Cool

Later in that same match all the good guys are putting figure fours on the Horsemen. Pillman is taking too long posing for the crowd and Sid yells: "Put the figure four on me"

I also remember a Nitro shortly after Russo started where the Filthy Animals were running around with a video camera doing a WWE "G-TV" type gimmick. They were filming Lex Luger and Miss Elizabeth in a dressing room. Luger was questioning something in a contract and the feed ran for too long. I think you actually heard the word "cut" and Luger, Elizabeth, and the other wrestlers in the room started laughing and joking around with each other.

I remember thinking that Russo must have been going out of his mind.

That Luger skit really stands out from the Russo & Ferrara era in WCW. I was thinking "what the crap is going on here? Were we supposed to see that as one of their goofy insider angles or did they totally mess that up?"

Sid calling spots at the top of his lungs really stands out from that War Games '91 match, which otherwise was one of the best they had put together. I just remember when they announced Larry Z was taking the injured Arn Anderson's place the whole crew I watched the show with were like "OK ...We know who is going to submit now for sure." They pulled a swerve and the heels actually won a War Games match, which made it seem fresh again.

I remember seeing an Luger promo in which his target was Terry Funk, and in the promo Luger was very "upset" and basically got into it to the degree where his mind kinda slipped and the "Funk" in Terry Funk turned into...well you know...

Also, as it relates to the goof ups in WCW (Bischoff era), anyone who wants to get some good laughs should check out the Eric Bischoff book.  Very informative and entertaining.
