Rock and Roll Express WCW 1996
Dec 26th, 2007, 2:01pm

Does anyone have any information on what the plans were for the Rock and Roll Express in WCW during 1996? I had forgotten that they showed up again until I caught some youtube videos. They looked to be in great shape but next thing you know, they disappeared again. They wrestled pretty good matches against the Horsemen, Harlem Heat and a few others. I never saw them beat anyone during this period of time. I just wonder why they agreed to come in and job to all of these teams when they were such a legendary team in NWA/WCW over the years. Maybe they needed the money.

Thanks

My guess is that they were offered a really nice payday to come in. Eric Bischoff was spending money like water during that period so he may have just paid them so well they went along with whatever he said and cashed the checks. I was hoping they might get one more hot run, but it just didn't pan out. I remember seeing them in the ring with Harlem Heat, Public Enemy, the Horsemen, Faces of Fear, Scott Norton & Ice Train, and the Nasty Boys when they came back, but they always were always booked on the short end of the match.

Ricky Morton also wrestled Jeff Jarrett in a singles match in one of Jarrett's early Nitro appearances.

I am sure it was a good payday for them and that is why they came in as ATM Eric was spending left and right. It is a shame they never got booked to do a program with a certain team but then again it was WCW and it was total confusion at the time. I would have love to have seen a series with them and The Horsemen as that would have been a good series to relive.

actually it was just a $500/night deal, according to Ricky, which would be about what I'd expect. They only worked sporatically in a 6 month period. I remember each match they had on tv vividly. They did get wins over Scott Norton & Ice Train, Scott & Steve Armstrong, High Voltage, Dave Taylor & Mr. J.L. and a DQ win over Benoit & Anderson. But generally, they jobbed out to every team. They weren't pushed, they were just brought in as a credible team to put someone over. They never did wrestle Public Enemy or The Nasty Boys though, but if they would've, they no doubt would've lost.

I read in Pro Wrestling Torch some arena results from around March, 1996 and then in July 1996 and they were listed in some results as being participants in some 3 team and 4 team matches with the American Males, Public Enemy, and Nasty Boys. These matches were listed as taking place in South Carolina I believe.

Here what was so bad about Rock n Roll Express wrestling in WWE for a short stint (as part of the NWA angle); that they were beat by the Headbangers back in 1997 i believe - I mean seriously, McMahon trying to job the R & R to what could be the worst tag team champions in the history of the WWE, is just unfathomable. But, hey McMahon did that to alot of people so I am not suprised.

I dunno, by that stage in their careers the RnR's couldn't really expect much more

It was a Worldwide bout in Aug or Sept of 96. About 5 minutes long with Morton bodypressing Steve for the victory.
