Absence of ring announcers

I always wondered why they did this on the TV shows. I know Rich did some announcing of the wrestlers on WWW, but you never saw ring announcers used on MACW or WTBS in the early/mid 80's era. Of course this poses the idea that when ring announcers were used for the bigger matches on TV, it seemed more special, but this has always puzzled me.

Any insight out there as to why this approach was used?

I hate to say this because I was a ring announcer at one time, but you really don't need them for this promotions TV.

It worked for Mid Atlantic becsuse the TV announcers did such a good job getting the wrestlers over. Did you really need a ring announcer for the Rock n Roll Express in 1985? Or the Midnite Express? When Tully Blanchard was in the ring with JJ Dillon, you knew it was Tully Blanchard in there, because David Crockett would let you know in no uncertain terms it was Tully Blanchard.

I think not having the flow interupted by ring introductions is part of the formula that made Mid Atlantic TV in the 80s some of the most exciting wrestling ever on televsion.

Plus, you save $20,000 a year in salary that way.
