Any good fan stories????
Feb 5th, 2008, 4:35pm

Was wondering if anyone who went to the SMW shows have some good stories to share. I am sure someone does. So many great angles came out of that promotion plus they had those "Fan Weeks" that I know have to be awesome.

Please share.

The only story I have is from the only show I got to attend of thiers in Fishersville, VA in 1993. Kevin Sullivan vs. The Nightstalker was memorable because those 2 fought all over the building and I think the whole building was following them. Also they bused in a bunch of death kids (I am not trying to make fun of them) and they were loaud without realizing it the whole night. When the Rock and Roll Express come out, they about blew out my ear drum but hey, they all had fun.

The one show I wish I could have attended was "The Bluegrass Brawl" in Pikeville, KY as Smothers won the belt in the classic chain match with DWB and they had the three team brawl with the RNR Express and Arn vs. Mantell and The Studd Stable vs. The Heavenly Bodies (Eaton, Lane, and Pritchard).

SMW was a great promotion.Cornette was wild as hell .I seen him hit a fan in Barbourville Ky with his racket and a big brawl just about broke out.I think he was book in jail that night and released. He had tp go to court on what happen that night and it was threw out ,but cornette had to aplogize at the next show in barbourville .Well the next show he got in the ring and told everyone that he was sorry that he ever seen this stinking town called barbourville..Classic !

Then in Barbourville i seen Tammy Stych get jumped by a lady fan.The fan jumped her from behind and jerked her to the floor hitting her befor lee and candido knew what was going on.Once again a big brawl just about broke out.

I loved SMW a lot and all ways went to the shows when they came to my town or near by.

Is that Synn Cornnette really them or is that some other person useing that name ??

That is the real Mrs. Cornette. I definitely want her to share some of her stories on here from the fan weeks. I know of one friend that told me about Cornette having to hold back Tammy Sytch from going after a woman after she pulled Tammy's hair, is that the story you are referring to smwfan?

I was a big fan of the deal as I had a friend of mine who would send me tapes of that stuff and I was instantly hooked. It reminded me of what wrestling use to be back in the day when it was hot. At the time we had Jim Herds crappy WCW and Vinces ridculous WWF stuff so it was good to have that to see even though it was regional ( I wish it would have been on national tv). I had a bunch of tapes until my ex's uncle taped over them without knowing one day, I was furious but I am not going to go on a rant here as now the man is no longer with us.

KOCRoyal this may be the one cornette was talking about.I was like 12 years old then so my memory may not be 100% accurate, but it seems like the fan jerked tammy to floor by her hair and started hitting her.The fan was took to jail by the cops there at the show.

I would love to hear some Cornette stories also.Would like to hear his toughts on my town Barbourville Ky .He all ways got a lot heat when he came here.

Synn  can you tell me were the famous Dairy Queen blow up happened ? Was it in Barbourville Ky ? I may be wrong ,but i think was.

Royal, those deaf kids were at seemingly every show in that area when I was living there going to JMU.  I just saw this thread and was thinking about those days, and it's weird but there weren't as many things that popped into my head like I woukd have thought.  Between the Fanweeks and the several dozen house shows I saw I'd have thought I;d have seen more unruly behavior.  A few to try and jog my brain:

- Sitting next to some guy at the August Expoland in Fishersville while he called New Jack the N-word and I was sure I'd see a live execution
-the Harris twins going after some guy in Knoxville on Thanksgiving Thunder 93 for reasons I could never determine even after watching the tape
-there was no end to the genetic mutant type fans you'd see in these towns
-going to some small town in KY i think on Fanweek for a show and haveing the locals be fascinated and follow the bus we were on like it was the Beatles Tour bus
-the genius fans on Fanweek 95 who decided it would be a good idea to cheer all the SMW guys at a USWA show at the height of the USWA vs SMW feud and chant stuff while they beat the JD Costello outta Tommy Rich in a cage.  Then we almost got killed and had to go out the back of the Louisville Gardens
-I didn't see this but supposedly at Blugrass Brawl the KKK offered to help Smothers out against DWB if he needed it or something to that effect.

Iy was awesome. I so love this sport. Grin

I wish  the majority of you genetic defective morons would learn to either, (A) SPELL, or (B) read what you post BEFORE you post it (and then maybe correct the misspellings that occured in your post!).

Sorry Mr. College Professor....forgot you were stalking the boards looking for our mispellings...lol

Here is what you need to do:
a) Get a life
b) Do not read if you do not like us "morons"
c) Leave the memories alone because you will never change (isn't that from a song??).

So please forgive me for not typing to your liking.

Now back to Smokey Mountain Wrestling. There will never be another promotion like that. I would like to see them do a Smokey Mountain Reunion and I mean one with everyone there like Jim, Bobby, Stan, Pritchard, DWB, Horner, Brian Lee, Jericho, The Rock and Roll Express, Orndorff, Mantell, Caudle, Brian Matthews, Bryan Clark, Sullivan, Arn, Fuller, Golden, and more. It was truley something we all loved.

Also there is another show out there i would love to see. It is the last show ever done by SMW where they all threw Cornette in the ring and started stomping on him. All those shows were classics. Thanks for the moments.

Sorry guys, haven't been here for a while.

I think that was Hyden KY that the DQ incident took place.Incidentally. I worked there on an SMW house show with 1 of the Infernos vs. DWB.Yeah that was a good heat gettin' town!! LOL

Also I remember a few fans from there...1 family sent Jericho and Storm a tape.We called the kid "Crab Boy".For some reason they decided to send this tape to the Thrill Seekers of him walking on his hands in a crab postion, with his legs up over his head. We ( the locker room and some Fanweek fans) must have watched that tape a billion times. The mother looked like Greg Valentine and was ALWAYS at the shows...daughter was cute though Wink

The only good stories I have about SMW was when I went there for Fanweek with J.R.Benson and Ron Hed about 1994.Jim and I weren't "dating" yet but most of those moments are on video.(www.jrbenson.com) My favorite was probably the picnic of heels at Panther Creek Park where Delrey set Marty Gorman's head on fire...good times.Good times.

Also Robert you forgot to remind me about the DVD's you wanted. Remind me again when you call me or Jim and we'll bring them in June!

These stories are great. They are exactly what I am seeking as I am writing an article on wrestling fans and their days of growing up watching pro wrestling, in Appalachia, on TV and in person. If you are a fan of SMW, I would love to get your thoughts and feelings about pro wrestling in Appalachia. I am in the process of writing an article and want to get fan's thoughts on how pro wrestling influenced their childhood by watching matches on TV and/or attending matches in person. You can email me at emelniczek@gmail.com to get a rough draft of the journal article that I am planning to submit to an Appalachian journal for inclusion....
