This was a very innovative event and probably a bit too ahead of its time. It was also a massive opportunity squandered by Crockett, but that's just par for the course. When this 'Crockett Cup' idea was in its infancy, he should have immediately called Vince Mcmahon and Verne Gagne. Would Mcmahon and/or Gagne have taken the bait and participated? Probably not, but we'll never know because it wasn't attempted. Its 2009, and this is still the only event that had real potential of being a "super card" encompassing all the wrestling organizations at the time. It could have been considered "neutral ground" for all participants and each federation could have shared the revenue. I realize it wasn't likely to happen as there was a lot of politics going on then and each organization was at war, but Crockett(or someone) should have extended an olive branch. Had Mcmahon participated, this event would have been huge. There wouldn't have been world title DQs to end the events either. Did anyone ever write a book about Crockett? Its gotta be a fascinating story. He was an expert at building beautiful bridges, letting people look at them in awe, and just as they're about to walk across them, he burns them to the ground. Most NWA/WCW fans think Crockett shouldn't have sold NWA. I think he should have sold it sooner.
