Dumbest Finishing Move
Mar 28th, 2008, 10:07pm

Who had the dumbest finishing move?

In my opinion it was the Garvin Stomp.  Who would lay there lifeless and let him just stomp them up one side and down the other.  I was just watching a clip on youtube.com of Garvin vs Arn Anderson and realized how dumb that was.

What do you guys think?

Well since we are basically talking about WCW...I will give this honors to "Snake Eyes" used by Oz/Vinnie Vegas. That move just flat out blew.

Actually, which was worse, the Bionic Elbow or Dusty Rhoades flopping abount for 15 minutes BEFORE applying the Bionic Elbow?

The Garvin Stomp was not so much a finisher as it was a set up to the knockout punch.  Very rarely did I see Ronnie finish a match with the stomp.

The worst finishing move was Johnny B. Badd's tuti fruiti punch.  Also, Hulk Hogan's leg drop, you go back and watch it now and it was just awful!

Yes...I agree...The "Flip Flop Fly" or whatever the heck he called it....Just awful... It's bad enough to put yourself over as the booker, but to actually have someone sell that ridiculous move?  Dusty Rhodes never ceases to amaze me.

Hogan's legdrop is NOT the worst finish ever, matter of fact it was one of the best finishers ever. It popped the crowd louder than 99% of any other finishers ever. It might seem weak but in the 80's a 300 pound man dropping a leg across your throat was a wrestling-sensible finisher. Much better than anything Duthy Rhodes evah did bee-bay!

Worse finishers include: Anything Fatdust did. As terrible as eveyone claims Hogan is/was in the ring, at least he has good matches to his credit with BAD WORKERS (Hogan/Warrior) and he always brought his work boots with him to Japan (go see the awesome Hogan/Hansen match from the WWF/AJPW show from 90) Dusty doesn't have many decent matches with anyone not in the Horsemen. Go figure. I can't understand the love for Dusty and the hate for Hogan. /rant.

The STFU is god-awful. The Worm. The Steiner recliner. The Rock's sharpshooter. *And don't get started on the People's Elbow, the Rock Bottom or the Spinebuster was the real finish, it was just the HUGE pop move that equaled the  Stunner and the Legdrop. Its one of the five most important moves in modern North American history that would only work with the biggest star the biz ever created.*

In WCW: Meng's golden spike.  The end.

Grin Thanks for the laugh. Haven't seen a Dusty match in years, but the memory comes back.

I remember "play wrestling" with my cousins back then, and when one of us would do that move(which would always bring laughter), we truly realized how idiotic the move was. No one(whether conscious or unconscious) would stand there for that long while Dusty dances.

I agree with hansen about Hogan. That move brought more applause than anything in wrestling history. Hogan's leg drop on Andre was not just seen around the world, but was shown in various mainstream media outlets(non wrestling).

Explain to me why the one move that has popped the crowd louder than any other move in wrestling history is dumb? It was the final exclamation point after the spinebuster or Rock bottom. It was a cocky move from the most charasmatic character ever and it fit in perfect context of his match. He just layed the smackdown on his opponent and he boastfully ends it with a cocky move that excited "the millions...and millions" of his fans. It was a perfect move for his character. That's the beauty of wrestling right there. Just how every savage character has some lame submission like Meng's nevehold, or the claw, or whatever, it just fits the character. And that's exactly what the People's elbow was to the Rock. Plus wrestling is a business first and foremost and you have to go with what works. I'd bet that a million people would rather lay down 60+ bucks for a ticket to see the Rock drop the people's elbow than 100 people would pay 10 bucks to see a perfectly executed drop kick by a talented grappler like Brad Armstrong anyday in wrestling history.

If we include everything then hands down it's the tarantula

A submission move where the guy is automatically touching the ropes = illegal

Also most top rope moves that require the guy to lay flat on his back for at least 3 seconds.

Why not just pin him anyway?

The Freight Train was the set up move for the Head Butt, that was actually his finisher.

Whoever said the Johnny B. Badd punch, I respectfully disagree. Badd was acknowledged as a former golden gloves fighter as part of the gimmick. One knockout blow is an awesome finisher. So is a big boot for that matter, same principle. Test's big boot was awesome. Someone explain to me how a big kick right to the freaking face isn't a fight stopper.
