What's the matter with the WWE?
Apr 1st, 2008, 1:50am

The WWE shows no respect at all to the legends
of wrestling unless they have worked for the
WWE at some point. They never even mentioned
Gary Hart passing away.

I tend to agree with you there, Texas. When I heard Tully and JJ would be there, the first thing I thought was the return of the old boys club. I was hoping to see Blackjack Mulligan, Jack Brisco, George Scott, Dory Funk Jr. and so many other non-WWE legends living in and around central Florida. And why not Ken Patera?

A lot of folks are giving WWE a pass on things, I believe, because it involves Flair. Jeez, Chris Benoit got 2 hours devoted to him; Flair gets 20 minutes. I bet you, though, had it been Triple H retiring, they would've devoted a whole week's worth of shows to him.

Along those lines. At Wrestlemania HHH used the Crippler Cross Face, if he wants to use a move in tribute to someone, why not the figure four ?

"What's the matter with the WWE?"      PLENTY.

Without, Ric, no reason for me to ever watch WWE again. He's the only reason I stayed for the last seven years.

From someone who was there:

What you didn't see on RAW was The Undertaker coming out and the ring clearing and him take off his hat and coat and hug him. I think he had tears in his eyes. He then went ringside and was clapping and cheering also. Then Vince McMahon came out and hugged him and raised his hand.

Courtesy of Bruce Mitchell:

Shawn Michaels, who is a great wrestler and is becoming a good man, comes down. Triple H shows the matching Rolex watches Michaels and Flair are wearing, a gift from Michaels. Both have "24" engraved on them. Flair's has "Richard Fliehr – To Be The Man" on his. Michaels has "Shawn Michaels – You Gotta Beat The Man."

There was a tribute to Gary Hart posted on the front page of wwe.com for several days.  There were video interviews with Flair, Dusty, Michael Hayes, and a few others with their memories of Gary Hart.  I think some of you guys are overreacting.

Greg , who did not know this day was coming? Since Nov. everyone from HHH , Randy Orton , MVP , Kennedy , Carlito and many others have been jobbing to Flair , even Vince himself. So , at the end of a 6 month storyline we are now saying WWE didn't do enough? How about when WCW fired him? How about when Hogan killed him 2 ppvs and one clash in a row and then he was "retired". Ric Flair did not die , so putting his tribute in the same thing as a Beniot death tribute episode is very unfair. I wish people would put aside their feelings for Vince once in awhile. Last year we had two empty chairs , one for Ernie Ladd and one for Sherri at Fanfest , is there going to be one this year because Ric Flair retired? If not can we say that you cared more about Sherri and Ernie then Ric Flair? Smiley

You can say that now, and you could've said it before. Sherri was a great lady and Ernie was a man among men. Personally, I'm not on the Flair bandwagon. I'm not going to rain on anyone's parade but suffice it to say I've seen the same side of Flair that Ole Anderson has. Sometimes when you get to know your heroes as real people, you later wish you hadn't. I have an undying respect for Sherri Martel and Ernie Ladd.

I think my point was misunderstood and I misunderstood you as well Greg. I thought you were saying it was unfair that Benoit got 2 hours but Flair got 20 minutes. I thought you were comparing the tribute show to someone who died to someone who "retired". That's what I meant based on what I thought you meant.

Greg-

I'm sorry that you've seen "that side" of Ric Flair. It also makes me sad that you aren't on the Flair "bandwagon."

I check this board every single day, but almost never chime in. Today, I have to.
I have met Ric many times dating back to 1985. He has never been anything but gracious and kind to me, no matter the situation. I have never seen him refuse an autograph or a picture. He's the number 1 reason I'm a wrestling fan and that will never change. To me, Ric is and always will be the greatest ever.

Everyone has different experiences. But the "real" Flair that I've met is the same man I've cheered and respected on tv for more than 30 years.

Same here, I have met Ric a few times and he has always been classy and gracious to me, my wife, and my children.  Always smiling and complimentary.  Always signing and taking photos with us.  Even when Tim White told us no autographs one time, Ric still smiled and signed.

Bockwinkel actually did work for them as an announcer and agent back in the late '80s. If you watch the 1989 Royal Rumble he's one of the officials that Warrior attacks after being jumped and choked out by Rick Rude during the Super Posedown.
