Whatever I had to watch way back then was determined by what was available on the antenna in So CA, in the mid 60's, as no cable was available yet. It all came from Olympic Auditorium, with "Mr Whoa Nellie!"himself, Dick Lane, a local announcer that did the Jalopy Derby races (precursor to the stock car races as we now know them), as well as the Roller Derby matches on Sunday nights. Ol' Dick never liked getting caught smoking a cigarette, and did all sorts of things to keep from having the camera catch him. His mic was so sensitive that you could hear the zippo lighter click open, the flint being flicked, and actually hear him blowing out smoke. Several times the camera was a little too quick and caught him when he did not expect it! Anyone remember some of the referees, like Cecil Payne, or Johnny "Red Shoes" Duggan, who always wore red shoes. It was always on every Wednesday night from 8 PM to 10 PM, and most of the main events seemed to last not very long as they came on just before sign off.
