Favorite Feuds & Angles

I'm sure some of the fanfest veterans have done this previously... but I haven't!  Cheesy

Here's a list of some of the MACW feuds & angles that I remember.  I moved to the Charlotte area in May '76 from southern Indiana (12 yrs. old) so that should put a timeframe on things.  These aren't in any particular order... (and some of these have been discussed at length, but that don't change my fond memories!)

Blackjack Mulligan twirls the Iron Shiek's batons
Paul Jones v. Blackjack Mulligan
Jimmy 'The Boogie Woogie Man' Valiant vs. House of Humperdink (Kabuki, Jos le Duc, etc.)
Roddy Piper brings in Abdullah the Butcher to take out Wahoo McDaniel (fork in the eye!!! holy crap!!!)
Roddy Piper v. Greg Valentine leading to infamous dog-collar match (actually made in on the nightly news!)
Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood v. Sgt. Slaughter & Don Kernodle
Jack & Jerry Brisco turn heel agains Steamboat & Youngblood (masterfully done turn... completely believable)

I could go on (and probably will...  Grin)

Ole-Thunderbolt feud.  Great way to bring in Arn, and the Ole interview where he tells Patterson calmly that he's giving him a pass this time but next time he better be careful is one of the best segments of all time.

I really liked the Pez Watley heel turn on Valiant.  I can still see Pez dancing beside Valiant till he says "the greatest black athlete."  That was one of my favorite beat downs of all time.

The first Flair-Nikita feud really got me back into wrestling and watching Mid-Atlantic when I was a kid.  The road to Moscow is paved with gold.

You know, everybody rants and raves about the Flair vs. Rhodes feud, but I always thought Blanchard vs. Rhodes was much more intense.   To me Ric and Dust always seemed to try and "one up" the other one, especially in the promos;  but the feud against Tully seemed more personal.

Cactus Jack vs. Terry Funk was crazy, you never knew which one of these guys was going to get hurt the worst, lol. I've got a great deal of respect for what both of these guys would do for a paycheck.

Sting vs. Ric Flair was great to watch. Saw it live a couple of times and enjoyed watching Sting battle the Nature Boy for the title. Sting won both times I saw it, a couple of house cards in the early 90's. On a side note I've stood next to Ric Flair but never "met" him, Sting on the other hand I've met and he was without a doubt one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Very grounded and down to earth back then.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair was my favorite. Finally after watching Flair kick Steamboats butt all over that ring for years, the Dragon finally prevailed in Chi-Town to claim the gold.

Rock 'n' Roll vs Midnight or Tully vs Magnum.  Someone got color every night in those feuds.

Flair vs the Garvins (Ron and Jimmy v w Precious) was always fun to watch.....
and I agree Tully vs Big Dust was much more 'animated' as a fued then Flair vs Dusty....

god..those were the days...I am watching History of the Horsemen 20 disk set by Tucoldvideo (cheap plug cheap plug)...I can NOT recommend it enough.....all the feuds, all the stars....It still blows my mind that this NWA WCW product would fail less then 20 yrs after the glorious 80s

Black Jack and Flair's Robe and Hat storyline epitomizes what a great storyline is about, no matter how basic.

Flair-Steamboat in the late 70's was classic. This was the timeframe when Steamboat was new to the area. I loved it when Flair rubbed Steamboat's face into the floor. The grudge matches they had were classic.

Flair and Valentine fued was good over the US belt, after Valentine turned on Flair and broke his nose.

Paul Jones and Wahoo vs. the Andersons - who can forget the supreme sacrifice of Gene Anderson? I wish someone had that on tape somewhere

Greg Valentine vs. Roddy Piper was great

Steamboat and Youngblood vs. Jack and Jerry Brisco...hard to beat this one...Jack and Jerry were great heels in this fued...

Jimmy Valiant's war with Paul Jones...it seemed to go on forever but there were some classic spots...

Tully Blanchard vs. Magnum TA

Nikita Koloff vs. Magnum TA

I didn't care for anyting that Dusty Rhodes was involved in because he always found a way to make himself look good and others very week...but, I still respect what the man accomplished in the business...

Hmm...I can think of a few...mine though are throughout the NWA...

In the Mid-Atlantic:

Ric Flair vs. Blackjack Mulligan

Ric Flair vs. Wahoo McDaniel (anyone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is this feud that really made Ric Flair, RIC FLAIR)

Ric Flair vs. Greg Valentine (short but brutal)

Ric Flair vs. Rick Steamboat (the Mid-Atlantic Days)

Throughout the rest of the NWA:

Tommy Rich vs. Buzz Sawyer (this one was pretty brutal...)

Tommy Rich vs. Masked Superstar (the mask switch Superstar did with the Super Destroyer was pretty cool...it really set this one in motion)

Masked Superstar vs. Mr. Wrestling II

The Freebirds vs. the Von Erichs (though the Von Erichs were prominant in the World Class area, I think World Class hit its stride when the Freebirds invaded Texas)

To me the greatest when I started watching was the Magnum vs. Tully feud, man that was INTENSE. Others throughout the time up until 1987 would be:

The Midnight Express vs. The Rock and Roll Express

Magnum T.A vs. Nikita Koloff

Ric Flair vs. Ricky Morton

Tully Blanchard vs. Dusty Rhodes

Ronnie Garvin vs. Tully Blanchard

Jimmy Valiant vs. Paul Jones army

Wahoo McDaniel vs. Jimmy Garvin

The Road Warriors vs. The Russians

Im not going to be responsible for what hits next. Because, we dont wear white hats. We are not nice guys. And I can tell you this -- heads are going to roll! So, Ive said it. Be careful for what you wish for, because now, you have it.

I'd agree with the ones listed prior.... For me, when I started watching wrestling in 1985, through the Crockett era into 1987, my top feuds and angles were, in no particular order......

Magnum T.A. vs Wahoo McDaniel
Magnum T.A. vs Tully Blanchard
Dusty Rhodes vs Tully Blanchard
Dusty Rhodes vs Ric Flair
Dusty vs The Horsemen
Magnum T.A. vs Nikita Koloff
Nikita vs Flair, loved the "dungeon" clips, attacking David Crockett
Nikita Koloff vs Lex Luger
Ric Flair vs Ricky Morton
Ric Flair vs Ronnie & Jimmy Garvin
Rock n' Rolls vs Midnight Express & Cornette
Cornette fireballs Ronnie Garvin, leading to Jimmy Garvin's face turn
The Road Warriors vs Midnight Express prior to Starrcade 86 scaffold match
Jimmy Valiant vs Paul Jones' Army, especially Manny Fernandez face turn
Ole Anderson thrown out of the Horsemen
Luger joins Horsemen, feud with Barry Windham
Nikita turns face, forms the Superpowers with Dusty Rhodes
Flair vs Sting
