Tex McKenzie injured by the Anderson's
Jun 29th, 2008, 6:14pm

Dave Moore posted this question on the old board:

Does anyone else remember when The Andersons "broke" Tex McKenzies neck?

That seriously scared me to death when I saw it. I dont recall how old I was at the time..... but I was sure that poor ol' Tex was really dead.....

Here is a follow-up with info from my newspaper research. The following paragraph appears in a sports column from the Gastonia Gazette on May 13,1967:

"Tex McKenzie may be off the wrestling circuit for the next week or so and that's bad news for his tag team buddy, Nelson Royal. Big Tex is wearing a brace on his neck after Raleigh, feuding with the Anderson's. Jim Crockett had to hurry a sub to Gastonia's card."

(Tex and Nelson were scheduled to wrestle the Infernos managed by J.C. Dykes at the Gastonia,NC Armory on May 11,1967. The Amazing Zuma subbed for Tex McKenzie in that match. Zuma and Nelson Royal lost to the Infernos.)

Tex's neck injury may have occurred on Wednesday May 10,1967 at the Raleigh tv taping. In any event, Tex resumed his team with Nelson Royal around the fall of 1967. Tex left JCP in Dec.1967. The next time we saw Tex in the Carolina's was his stint with the IWA in 1975.
