MORE HOT SUMMER NIGHTS IN LEXINGTON
Jul 9th, 2008, 7:20pm

LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA

JUNE 30, 1962

Two outstanding wrestling tag teams are scheduled for a rematch on an all-star mat card at the Lexington YMCA tonight.

Popular ABE JACOBS, a sparkling star from New Zealand, and HAYSTACK CALHOUN, who at 601 pounds is the biggest wrestler operating today, will be rematched against China's P.Y. CHUNG and Japan's TARO MYAKI, wicked wizards of judo.

JACOBS and CALHOUN, winners through disqualifications in a recent match, are anxious for a victory and the Orientals for revenge.

GEORGE BECKER and JOHNNY WEAVER, who won a tag feature last week, will return for singles battles tonight. BECKER will meet the French villain LOUIS TILLET. WEAVER takes on another bully, SONNY FARGO.

Wrestling fans who like tag team action will get a double dose in an all-star card at the LEXINGTON YMCA tonight.

SOUTHERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS RAY ANDREWS and ERIC POMEROY defend their honor against the savage team of ALDO BOGNI and BRONCHO LUBICH, directed by their strutting manager HOMER O'DELL.

Popular stars REGGIE PARKS and JOHNNY WEAVER return after an absence to team against the tough duet of "big and round guys" CRYBABY CANNON and TWO TON HARRIS in another top event.

Both tag matches are two-of-three falls.

Two more big men, FRANK VALOIS and PAT O'HARA, meet in the 8:15 p.m. opener.

June 27, 1964

Popular JOHNNY WEAVER will get a belated opportunity to capture the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP at the LEXINGTON YMCA tonight when he meets the champion LOU THESZ in the featured bout.

Several weeks ago, the match had to be postponed due to an injury to THESZ, but now it's set to go. The title match is two-of-three falls, one hour time limit.

Co-featuring the program will be a tag team match between the bullish duo of BRUTE BERNARD and SKULL MURPHY when they face the great Osage Indian star CHIEF BIG HEART and his new partner RONNIE ETCHINSON. This is set for two-of-three falls, 45 minutes.

Former AAU champion TIM WOODS tangles with PAT O'BRIEN in one preliminary match, and the 8:15 p.m. opener sends young ALEX MEDINA against the tough veteran TINKER TODD.
