Tony Atlas Forgets Mid Atlantic Roots On ECW

I usually dont watch ECW but I heard one of our old school Mid Atlantic guys Tony Atlas was on ECW as the Heel Manager of Mark Henry.
 
The show was being shown live from the Charlotte Coliseum and Atlas asked this guy from the audience where he was from. He said Lexington NC and get this now Tony Atlas said Never Heard Of It.  
 
OMG Tony Atlas has wrestled there when he worked for JCP & MACW.

That's the first time in my life, I have ever watched ECW.  I did it last night, because I was channel surfing and ran across it.
 
Like you, I was pleased to see that Tony was getting a pay check.  But, the part about him saying he had never heard of Lexington, NC, was part of the role he was playing, as a Mark Henry's gofer.  
 
To me, in the role he was playing, he came across as a well dressed "Fred Sanford".  Even to the point of walking like Fred Sanford.

Okay guys, let's not forget we don't disrespect our legends here.
 
I understand fun and games, but let's leave it at that. Tony is one of the finest, most down-to-earth, level-headed people I've ever meet and I'm proud to say he's been a friend for more than 20 years.

Easy, Greg.  I don't believe anyone who commented, including myself, intended any disrespect to Tony.
It's simply a case of each of us picked up on the character role, the ECW created for him.  I suspect, if you asked him about it, he would agree.
 
The bottom line is that he's working again and apparently having fun with the character they created for him.  That's all that matters.

I guess there are a couple Atlas-related threads here and I just posted in the wrong one. My apologies there.
 
In another thread someone mentioned they'd "heard" Tony was down on his luck. I hate crap like that because you "hear" a LOT and oftentimes what you "hear" is just third- fourth- or fifth-generation rumor that just continues to grow because everyone repeats what they "hear".
 
I believe Tony was open and honest in an MTV documentary many years ago that showed him down on his luck. Times change folks. Wrestling isn't the same as it was 10 years ago. Tony Atlas isn't the same as he was 10 years ago.
 
Let's stay away from the "I heard" stuff. I don't want this forum to contribute to the misconceptions of others.

Greg I too didn't mean any disrespect towards Tony either I saw the same MTV documentary you did and wrestling isn't the same as it was 10 years ago neither is Tony but then None of the rest of us are either I'm very pleased to see your buddy Tony on TV again

 i meant no harm either with my comments, i was just saying that if tony had been down on his luck it was great to see him get another chance for a decent paycheck. i'm not familiar with the mtv interview you guys are speaking of, i just know i respect tony from days gone by in the crockett and ga. championship days,guess i should keep my thoughts to myself,sorry if i offended anyone????? Tony is a great guy. Only could dream of making the money these wrestlers make today. Those muscles ache alot more now than when he was feared in the ring.
 
Just reading through the entire thread I picked up on no disrespectful comments, at least intentionally.  
 
Tony hasn't forgotten where he came from or where he's been it's a role and if you believed it or got a little upset, he must be doing something right. Collect your check MR. Atlas!!

That sounds like he was just getting heat or atleast trying.
 
It is good to see Tony Atlas on tv again.  I hope he gets a job in the back if this thing with Mark Henry doesn't work out.
