Display Case for Belt
Aug 7th, 2008, 4:39pm

I would like to put my Ric Flair replica big goldie belt somewhere that I can actually see it once I get it signed by Ric. I am thinking about putting it on the wall of my den. I have seen wooden boards you can hang them on, but I would prefer something that would protect the belt just a bit more like a glass or plexiglass cover, along the lines of a shadow box type thing if that makes sense. Has anyone ever seen anything like that? I suppose I could make one if nobody has them.

Here is a pic of the real ring used Unified belt one of my friends owns. He spent a pretty penny on the custom lucite display case for it.

In my opinion, I wouldn't get the belt signed on the front as it makes the belt look bad. Signing it on the back is fine, but if you want to display it you will not see the autograph.

The wooden belt boards should be fine. The Fig Inc belts have a clear coating on them to protect them. All you need to do is wipe it down with a damp cloth every few weeks and it should be fine.

I have a belt board for my UFC belt and I love it. I also bought a hockey jersey case for my NWA replica, but it has to be folded to fit. I think the belt board is the best option, I just wanted to add some pics of Flair with the belt.

Great looking belts guys & I appreciate the advice. I am not a belt collector per se so I have had my belt signed on the front in silver sharpie. Once Flair signed it will be full and I hate to put it up where it can't be seen. I like the hockey jersey case & the photos are a great addition but folding it would hide many of the signatures. I guess the board would work, but the locations I have in mind get a good bit of light through the windows so I think I might build a box around the belt. If I do that would I still need the board? What kind of attaching hardware is safe to use to attach it to the board/box? Where is a good source of supplies?

For both I used plastic mirror holders that come with screws and painted them black. They are cheap and I bought them at walmart. They are perfect for holding belts. If you build a case make sure you have enough depth. The acrylic cover on the NWA belt actually touches the domed globe.

I like the belt boards best, but I wouldn't attempt to put my real belts on it. Although I've seen people mount them without problem, I'd be so paranoid with all the weight on those clips that I would think the belt would fall out.

Those clips are surprisingly strong. They are the same clips that hold a large oval mirror in my bathroom that weighs much more than a belt. The belt board came with some metal tacks that seemed much less durable and more likely to come loose.

I had a 12x55x2¼ shadow boxed priced a few weeks ago from an outfit in texas.  They quoted me at $185.00.

Also, I have a belt in a glass case that was designed for a football helmet.  You have to snap it as though you were putting it around your waist, but it looks great.  I got the case for $50.00 as a Michaels scrapbooking store.

The only negative I can see is those clips leaving indentation marks in the leather over a long period of time.

I've used an acrylic case that was made to hold 2 footballs. It's just the right width for my belts and since the top is acrylic, it doesn't weigh very much and isn't a big deal to remove the belt from.

BeltFanDan,
Thanks for the ofer, but don't hold your breath (lol). Not buying these to sell them, ever. Only buying the belts that actually meant something to me in my youth.
