I just got a call from Don Kernodle. He said Sonny passed away about 9 pm tonight (8/20).
May God bless and comfort his son, Obie, and his family.

Got the news from Peggy a while ago. Sonny was a great ref and good friend, and I will miss him a lot. One of the real characters of the wrestling business. Rest well old friend. SOH.

His son Obie was at HOH Friday night. We sat with him and he told us Sonny ask him to come tell all the guys hello. Before HOH started he called Sonny so we could say hello and that we loved him. He was very weak then but he did know who we were. He is now with all the other guys who have gone on before him. Probably having a wrestling match with him as the referee. We will truly miss him. God bless each member of his family. Obie we love you.

Got the email this morning, sad news. We were laughing this weekend at some stories and about some of the crazy things Sonny used to do.
I never remember seeing Sonny when he wasn't smiling.

I was saddned to hear of the passing of Sonny Fargo on the wrestling observer website. Sonny was a good ref for all the JCP brands always got involved in matches he refereed. Especially when a heel would get caught doing an illegal move hold or use a foreign object. You could hear his loud southern accent yelling 1 2 3 break the hold break the hold. I will miss him RIP My sincere condolences go out to his family.
