Hello all:

Is anyone here aware of a wrestling promotion that had TV coverage in the Roxboro,NC area somewhere around 1979-1980? As a small child, I used to stay at my grandparent's house and I remember watching this wrestling show on TV, but I have absolutely no recollection of what promotion it was, or who any of the workers were. It definitely wasn't anything from Crockett or the IWA. For all I know, it may have been some local promotion that happened to secure a time slot somehow. I do remember the show having pretty poor production values and I didn't recognize anyone. Bear in mind, I was only seven or eight years old.

I'm sorry this question is so vague, but I have really been racking my brain as to what the heck I was watching back then. Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance,
MaskedSuperstarFan

Do you remember what channel you were watching this show on? I used to watch a show on channel 45 in Winston-Salem around this time. The show aired late Saturday night. It was an independent group out of Virginia. Two names that I remember best are Johnny Mike and Eclipso. I have got to know Eclipso over the past few years. I believe that it might have been mentioned during some of the shows about also airing in Martinsville, Virginia.

Could this be the show you remember seeing?

No earthly idea what channel it would have been - I'm going strictly on faded memories from when I was a young kid. If the show you mentioned aired around that time frame, then yes, it may very well have been the one. Do you remember anything else about it? Also, out of curiousity, is the Eclipso you mentioned the same one who has worked shows in Virginia recently with Pvt. Jim Nelson?

Thanks so much,
MSF

Yes it is the same Eclipso. I first saw Eclipso wrestle more than thirty years ago on a couple of independent shows at the VFW here in Mount Airy,NC. He is still going strong with his group in Virginia.

i recall (just once) seeing a show on WSLS from Roanoke of a group called the "NWF" in either '80 or '81 at about 3am on a Sunday morning. best i can recall, they had a one camera shot in with what appearred to have been shot in a garage somewhere. i only saw one episode and it was a VERY bad reception. and i don't recall any wrestlers names.

cwh47 & bobbyryates:

Thanks for your input as it relates to my "memory loss"!

And Bobby, I'll bet that one-camera shot show held in that garage back in '80 was tons more exciting and watchable than some of the "sports entertainment" that airs these days.  Just my opinion though...

Thanks again,
