Hall of Fame Guesses
Jan 10th, 2009, 2:17pm

Here are my "pie in the sky" guesses for this year's WWE Hall of Fam class. I am eager to see what others have in mind:

- Steve Austin
- Von Erichs
- Fabulous Freebirds
- Ted DiBiase
- Arn Anderson
- Tully Blanchard
- Jake Roberts
- Randy Savage (before anyone points out the obvious: I know I know I know but it never hurts to dram big)

You're probably on the money with Austin and one or all of the Von Erichs. I've said elsewhere I think this is the year for Steamboat and Savage. And, since it's in Houston, I expect longtime Houston promoter Paul Boesch to be inducted as well.

How in the world did I forget to mention Paul Boesch? He was a staple in prmoting shows for years in Houston and I actually just watched the WWF Paul Boesch retirement show from 1987 a few weeksa go. Definitely a worthy inductee.

Does anyone think Savage would consent to the Hall of Fame if they inducted Miss Elizabeth the same night?

I think he could do what Bret Hart did just do his part then go home and not stay for the show the next day

The two "spoilers" so far for the class of 2009 are "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and just today, "Cowboy" Bill Watts has said that he has accepted the honor from Vince McMahon... the report I read said that he has asked for Jim Ross to perform the induction...

My class of 2009 would be:

The Von Erich Family
The Fabulous Freebirds
Bruiser Brody
Randy Savage
Elizabeth
Ricky Steamboat   (Flair should induct him....)
Tully Blanchard
Arn Anderson
James J. Dillon
Ted Dibiase

Jim Ross inducting Cowby Bill Watts is a logical choice given their long history together in Mid South/UWF/WCW and a short time in WWF in 1995, but now I wonder who will induct Steve Austin. I would guess that Vince won't have JR induct two guys the same night. Perhaps Ric Flair will do the honor for Austin if he and WWE are on strong enough terms these days. During the Flair tribute and retirement last year Austin was gushing with praise for the Nature Boy and seemed very sincere in doing so. There is obviously a lot of respect there.

The latest report tonight said that Austin has basically demanded that Flair induct him, and WWE is not at all pleased....they were leaning towards Ross, but Austin is solidly saying Flair. Hope it happens, that will be a great moment.

That will be one of the most memorable moments in the history of the WWE Hall of Fame if it comes to pass. Good for Austin that he has the clout to insist on Flair and actually get what he wants. I am certain that William Shatner was not Lawler's first pick to induct him and Jerry just went along with what he was told would happen. That whole induction was a JOKE as Shatner was just reading scripted lines and came across as a horse's rear end that viewed wrestling as little more than a joke in the first place. Bad deal all around as Lawler then used his induction speaking time to pop off some one liners and make Viagra jokes.

Agreed. I felt that there was no other choice to induct Lawler than Mr. Lance Russell. WWE has made some very questionable choices, as far as preserving the legacy of the business.... Cases in point: Pete Rose, and William Perry....c'mon, is this a respectable institution, or another of Vince's public circuses ? Hogan should have been inducted by Vince himself, not Stallone. The respect that should be shown to these legends is to let them decide who they want to induct them, despite Vince's numerous "issues" with many of the legends.

The next two inductees for the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame will be Terry and Dory Funk Jr....guess WWE is playing up to Texas history this year... Great news, and congratulations to these two great legends.

Ricky Steamboat is confirmed for this year's WWE HOF and, supposedly, Ric Flair will be inducting him. Very appropriate I think! And very well deserved. Congratulations, Steamer!

I am particularly fond of all of the members that are going into the Hall of Fame this year as well as those doing the inducting, but I am dissapointed that Koko B. Ware is a member of this years class. When I look at the amount of talent that is being inducted ancd what they have accomplished during their existance in professional wrestling, for the life of me, I don't see where Ware fits on the list. What angers me even more is that he feels he should have been inducted a long time ago and that he considers himself a Hall of Famer even if he was never inducted at all.

I realize that Ware is African American, wrestled and made a name for himself in the Memphis area, made the mainstream when he became part of the WWF, competed in several Wrestlemanias and sang the lead track on the second WWF wrestling album. To me, that does not qualify enough for me to jhave him inducted. To me, there are plenty of deserving names that deserve entry. for example, his Wrestlemania VI opponent, Rick Martel, would be an excellent choice or his late tag team partner Owen Hart. If perhaps an African american needded to be represented, I think the late S. D Jones would have made a great contribution to the class, as he was a great journeyman and made it into the mainstream WWF.

Maybe I'm old school, but I didn't see Ware as anything more than a sideshow attraction in the WWF who fly around the ring. I'm not taking away from his abilities, but I just don' see him as having Hall of Fame potential and seems to me to be the only blemish on this year's class of inductees.

If Pete Rose and William Perry can make it......

Seriously, the real "sham" in all of this is that legendary Houston promoter Paul Boesch is not included. That's my only gripe.

true and very good point Hardcore...but at least celebrities had their own "wing." Even then, I think its is VERY questionable to have Perry a part of that.  Sure, he guy had one hell of an entrance in the battle royal at Wrestlemania 2, had a few spots where he shined and he was even able to get his shine and take out Big John Studd...but that was only one Wrestlemania appearance..at least Rose made a couple of appearances...probably was used more as a way to stick it to Selig not ever wanting to put him in baseball's Hall of Fame, so at least he is in A Hall of Fame, albeit a wrestling one.

but even a better point...and one I hadn't even thought of, growing up on WWF and some NWA...Paul Boesch not being inducted. I wonder if perhaps the thinking was that he would perhaps overshadow Watt's induction, as he was a promoter as well, of the old UWF. Thinking about it, I'm surprised, since I believe that the WWF even promoted the Paul Boesch Retirement show in August of 1987, so there definitely was some kind of relationship there, as he only passed away a couple of years later.

Hmmmm....I wonder who would have had inducted Boesch if he was chosen this year...so many of those who were guests of his retirement show have since passed on...individuals such as Stu Hart or Ernie Ladd...but some other names like Jose Lothario or Gene Kiniski would do fine. I think nowadays however, one of the persons, either the inducted or the inductee, must have some presence in today's era, except in some cases, like Verne Gagne.  Possibly, I think Ted Dibiase could have inducted Boesch too...ahhhh, the possibilites lol Grin
