My introduction to Wide World Wrestling was in the mid-70s with Ed Capral as host. You know how you remember where you were when you first heard that Elvis died? I had one of those moments with Ed Capral in mid-December 1975. If I'm not mistaken, it was on this show that in a seemingly impromptu fashion, Mr. Capral announced he'd just received a phone call and that he'd been told Terry Funk had just defeated Jack Brisco in Miami for the world championship. As an 11-year-old kid, a wrestling fanatic, that was just so intriguing. Capral had this Walter Cronkite-like seriousness about himself and his way of communicating the message. Classic. Even though the TV show aired the following weekend, I remember doing the math and confirming that the 10th WAS on Wednesday, the same day of the Wide World tapings. That's a date and a story that I'll remember forever.
