"Most of the "enhancement" or "jobbers" in the Mid-Atlantic area were a better caliber than those in other areas. There were a few exceptions which I won't bother to name. Guys that headlined other territories never made it past mid card here. Pedro Morales, Mr. Wrestling II & Ox Baker come to mind immediately. Swede Hanson was in the twilight of his career and jobbing on TV but challenging Bob Backlund for the WWF title in MSG. The Mid-Atlantic roster was loaded with talent. Mr. X 1 & 2 could easily have been champions anywhere else at the time. " You are so right. I had read about Pedro Morales in wrestling magazines and was excited when he arrived to Mid Atlantic. The only semi main event I saw him in was a match against Nick Bockwinkle for the AWA title in Greenville, SC. Other than that, he was always mid card. Ox Baker at least had a short run as Mid Atlantic Tag champ with Carl Fergie. Back when you knew who the good guys and bad guys were, it was always neat to get an autograph from a "bad guy". Mr. X 1 was always friendly and I treasured his autograph. From that point on, I was a huge fan but rarely if ever got to see him win a match. I do remember reading in a magazine once that during the late 70's Flair/Valentine fued with Ole/Gene Anderson, that Mr. X 1 filled in for Ole or Gene in a house show match. The article made a real big deal out of it. Why he never got a run, we'll never know but like you said, the Mid Atlantic area was loaded with great talent. I also remember Ted and Jerry Oates in Mid Atlantic and I expected them to be World Tag champs but they never got past mid card. When they went back to Georgia, they got a little better push.
